Adding Every App To Folders In The Dock For Easy Access From Inside Any App

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 10:58 AM PDT

Saw a coworker use this set up, where every app (or at least every app that's at least somewhat commonly used) is in the dock, to make switching apps easier.

Since you can pull up the dock without leaving an app, this gives you quick access to every other app.

Mine are organized into categories, with 1 app from each category outside of the folder so I know what kinds of apps are in each folder.

SIM-card needs to be unlocked, even though it's not one in?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 02:22 PM PDT

Hey! My dad has a problem with his (i think) iPad Air 2. After he updated his OS (I think iOS 12) he has to unlock a SIM-card. The thing is, he hasn't put one in. I really don't see how I can solve this, and I'm not very good with Apple. So do any of you good people know what can be done?

The airbag on my old school IPad went off... Haven’t used it in a while and I found it like this. Not a case of overheating or dropping it. It just done blowed up... What the hell’s going on?

Company forgot to collect a new ipad they sent to me after laying me off

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 02:24 PM PDT

I have an ipad that my previous company sent me. At the time of my lay-off they collected my old ipad and other devices. I haven't turned the ipad on yet for fear that they might track it or searched the serial number to see if it reported stolen.

Since its a 4G ipad, can I take the sim out and register it under my iCloud and use it without fear of them finding out?

The best apps for those with bad handwriting.

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 10:34 AM PDT

The Apple Pencil & ipad combo is advertised and loved by those who are artistically inclined. The aesthetic potential is limitless and even for the non artist, paperless productivity lends itself well to the pencil/iPad. But honestly, there aren't many resources for those of us who just write ugly. And i don't mean the, "oh i have messy handwriting," folks. (Though I'm sure this post will benefit you too.) But I'm sharing this for those of us who can't even read our own handwriting. These are the apps I've tried as a "paperless" student and which ones are the best/worst at supplementing my bad handwriting

For context, I do not have a diagnosed disability. But I had lots of trouble learning to write. I just couldn't make legible letters. I was in the 4th grade before I could write coherent words and was 9 years old before I could write my own name, address and phone numbers. And that was after some therapy and using "special" writing tools that allowed for precision and control (.45-.mm pens and NO number two pencils.) I'm not a 4th grader anymore but I still need good writing tools if i want to write well. There have been plenty of times where I've made hand written notes only to try studying them later and having no idea what I was trying to say or do. That makes the transition to "paperless," kind of difficult because I need precision and control, paper with lines, and not too much sensitivity. If the app can steady my strokes for me, that's great! But if it's too sensitive then it only highlights my mistakes.

Notability -great app. But it's only ok for handwriting. You could definitely make it work but it is very very sensitive. The paper options are wonderful though and is great at organizing

Goodnotes -Great for handwriting. The lines on pages are clear. The text boxes can be resized at will. There's even a tool that will enhance the screen view and magnify a small portion of the paper. This allows you to write small but not have to squint to stay in between the lines. The line measurements can also be changed from .5mm and beyond. This app has the perfect degree of sensitivity too and will make your hand seem much more sturdy than it is

Liquid text -not good for handwriting at all. This is actually the worst app for those with bad handwriting. While Notability and Goodnotes allow for line customization, Liquidtext does not. Liquid text has just 5 options to choose from and none of them are that great. There's also a "detect force" option, but those of us with bad handwriting will know, keeping steady pressure is almost impossible. Also, the bar in which you write notes and text do not have lines and there's no way to change it. This app is great for research but don't try to write too much in it. I just write my notes somewhere else and import It later.

Flexcil The app is good and the handwriting is very easy to control. The line can be customized and the notebook has lines to keep you steady. Also, you can have multiple pen options open at the same time, which makes switching between lines and colors very easy. But the notebook is kind of hard to see at times.

The best app for bad handwriting (to me): Goodnotes

The app is sturdy. The resizing features are great as well.

For overall study though: Notability. The app is sensitive. BUT the organization is much easier compared to Goodnotes. Notability has more seamless features.

So if handwriting is a main concern then I highly, highly 110% recommend with Goodnotes. But keep your eyes on Notability as well

    Notability notes stuck on loading

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 01:57 PM PDT

Whenever I exit the notability app and restart it, it has to reload every single note that I have. Then it will get stuck on loading and then I can't continue taking notes. It takes FOREVER to reload some of my notes sometimes hours! I've restarted the app, restarted my iPad, etc...

Any tips on how to load notability notes from iCloud without it taking forever?

Frustrated at lack of support for senior citizens

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 10:48 AM PDT

My dad is 84 and has had an iPad since I bought him one for his 80th. He's now on his second one and it's the latest iPad (not the pro version). He is generally OK with it and can do most things he wants. Last night he had a problem that he just couldn't solve & I just assumed (silly me) that I would be able to use something like Apple Remote desktop to assist him remotely (I'm 300 miles away).

I wanted just to be able to connect to his iPad from my MBP and control his screen as if I was in front of it to help him. Nearest I could get to it was via teamviewer and it wouldn't work because he had locked his screen rotation so his iPad is stuck in landscape, so you can't swipe up to get to control centre from the bottom and there is no setting within the settings app to disable it, which meant I couldn't get to the settings to start a screen sharing session.

So this got me thinking. I am sure that there are thousands if not millions of 70 plus iOS users. I understand that Apple have made it so that you cannot get control remotely because of fraudsters, well what about selling something like a hardware dongle that is paired only to one or several others that means they can only talk to each other when they are connected via the lightning port? Perhaps allowing encrypted bi directional communication. That would secure it and enable remote support.

Then I don't have to spend 2 hours on the phone after a 14 hour day at work trying to get the poor sod's iPad working properly again!

Does anyone, anywhere, know of anything that can help me so I don't have this aggravation again? Many thanks!

The frustrating Wordpress iOS keyboard bug is finally fixed

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 09:26 AM PDT

For the longest time, any iOS device with an external keyboard (including Apple's smart keyboard or any third party Bluetooth keyboard) was all but unusable when writing blog posts with WordPress, due to a frustrating bug that caused the screen to "jump" (act as if a page down she had been pressed) whenever you hit one of the arrow keys on the keyboard during editing. I nagged Apple about it for years, making multiple bug reports, and I'm happy to report that in iOS 12 the bug is finally fixed. So if you want to use an iOS device as a blogging platform but were turned off by this frustrating bug, it's a happy day indeed.

Life span of an iPad Pro if I buy it now vs. new 2018 iPad Pro

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 08:28 AM PDT

I want to get an iPad pro 12.9 inch but I am going to wait for the release of the new iPad pro. If I buy the 2017 iPad pro, how long would you think the software would last before apple turns on self destructive mode (Where it can no longer update to the newest IOS and thus no longer support most apps). I am a freshman in college and want it to last until I complete a (possibly) masters. Would it be worth just buying the new iPad? I am on a 700 dollar budget (-$100 for apple pencil) and need at least 64 GB of memory. Also does anyone know if the 2017 iPad pro will be any cheaper when the 2018 iPad pro is released?

iOS 12 made my 2013 iPad Air fast again...

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 06:31 PM PDT

... but it drains my nearly week's worth of battery in about 2 days.

Guess I need to buy a 2018 model to get better battery then

Also why did Apple swap the Emoji button and number button on the keyboard?

abest iPad Pro 12.9 inches holder/stand?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2018 04:08 AM PDT

Hey guys. I am waiting for the new iPad Pro 2018 announcement. I bought the 2017 iPad Pro last year then returned it after few days coz it's too heavy for me. I am looking for a durable stand or holder that can secure tablet while I am sitting in bed because I am pretty sure the weight won't change much for new iPads.

Any recommendations will be great! I am gonna use it to play Runescape Mobile exclusively.

2018 iPad compatible with iPad Air cases?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 05:18 PM PDT

I have noticed some reviews of the 2018 iPad people have mentioned that the 2018 iPad literally has the same body as the OG iPad Air.
I want a waterproof case, will a iPad Air 1 case (in this case the a lifeproof case ) fit the 2018 iPad?

I found a place with one on clearance but don't want to buy something i cannot return if it won't work but figure why pay for a catalyst case if i can pay a fraction for lifeproof

    thanks

    External speaker recommendations?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 03:01 PM PDT

I'm looking for an inexpensive external speaker for my ipad, preferably under $30. I know at that price I can't get audiophile sound, but is there one that's at least decent? Also, would I be better off with bluetooth or one that plugs into the headphone jack. I just want to play music in the house.

Looking for an app to help my work flow - open to suggestions

    Posted: 01 Oct 2018 07:36 PM PDT

I spent the last several months exploring ways to help make my work flow more efficient.

I currently have Notability to take handwritten notes via the Apple pencil. I use the Outlook app and standard Apple Calendar that is synced to my work exchange server. However, my ideal set up would be to have a singular app (or perhaps an alternative work around or work flow with other apps) to 1) take notes via Apple pencil and 2) help me manage and create events and tasks to sync to my calendar.

If it helps, I am an attorney and typically meet with clients to take notes on my iPad, so I need the note taking functionality. Throughout the day I receive emails and case updates, and I want to be able to turn those emails into tasks/events to sync to my calendar, and also have the ability to create tasks/events on the fly.

Do you guys have any suggestions or advice? All the apps I've used thus far have been a bit cumbersome and time consuming. Thanks!
