Good Universal Messaging App for iOS?

    Posted: 10 Oct 2018 08:15 AM PDT

I use Franz on my Mac and it's incredible with the sheer amount of different messaging app protocols that it supports. Does any app with the same kind of versatility exist on iOS? I'm having a hard time finding anything useful.

Thanks for any tips that can be provided!

Adding a medical dictionary to iOS to get rid of autocorrect

    Posted: 10 Oct 2018 07:46 AM PDT

Is there a way to add a medical dictionary to iOS. I tried looking this up in Google and it seems like the answer is no. I can add multiple dictionaries but only those Apple has provided. If it was just a handful of terms I could add shortcuts (actually I already have) but autocorrect kills me whenever I'm trying to type a word that isn't already in the dictionary. The biggest issue is when I go through a delete, type, delete, type, delete type cycle.

Hotspot via WiFi doesn’t want to disconnect on iOS12 on iPhone 7+ and iPad Pro 10.5

    Posted: 10 Oct 2018 07:46 AM PDT

Both my iPhone and iPad are on Verizon and after upgrading both to iOS 12.0, I can't disconnect the hotspot connection. If I toggle hotspot off in Settings, any connected devices stay connected (blue bar on top remains and devices maintain access to the internet). I have to turn off WiFi to disconnect any connected devices. It doesn't matter what device is connected, my Roku, any laptop, etc.

While I am connected via WiFi, the connection is fine and I can use it as normal, I just can't disconnect a connected device by turning off hotspot.

If I hotspot a laptop via USB, the hotspot behaves normally (toggling hotspot off in settings disconnects the connected laptop from internet access).

On the iPhone, when I connected via WiFi, the blue bar would sometimes bug out and flash as if it was rapidly connecting and disconnecting. It would do this until I turned WiFi off. This would happen randomly, but it seemed to be more common in the last week or so on the same devices that have always connected without an issue.

After upgrading to iOS 12.0.1 the phone stopped doing the flashing thing, but the persistent WiFi hotspot connection after turning hotspot off remains.

Has anyone else had this problem?

New version of the “too many devices” message in iOS 12? The term “Device Limit” seems to be new. I still get the old message using Apple Music in Mojave though, so it’s strange the wording was changed just for iOS.

HELP - Trying to set up online invitation using ICS file

    Posted: 10 Oct 2018 07:00 AM PDT

Hi guys, I'm hoping someone can shed a bit of light for me

I'm wanting to set up a downloadable file so friends / family can add my event to their phone calendars. I've uploaded an ICS file with the event online, then linked it to a button on the website.

I've confirmed on multiple android devices that tapping the button downloads the file, then you can tap open and it adds it to the calendar

Our iPad however just sits there doing nothing - any advice?

How long does ‘recent’ box appear on recently blocked contact?

    Posted: 10 Oct 2018 05:40 AM PDT

When I check my block list I notice it says 'recent' next to the contacts I've recently blocked. I'm wondering how long it takes for the 'recent' box to go away after you've blocked them?

Extremely low volume on headphones, how to fix?

    Posted: 10 Oct 2018 05:17 AM PDT

So, I'm using HD 206's on an iPhone 6s, and the volume is ridiculously low, to the point where I can't hear the music properly if I'm outside. Using the phones on a macbook (using the boom app), they are EXTREMELY loud with NO distortion, to the point where I can't comfortably listen to anything over half the max volume. I've tried everything, EQ, max volume on the iPhone (the red ticks on the volume bar must be a JOKE), and it's just... horrible.

What's going on? Surely there must be a way to force the iPhone to just be louder?

    Lock Apps in Certain Contexts?

    Posted: 10 Oct 2018 05:10 AM PDT

I'm considering switching from Android to iOS. The only thing holding me back is that I haven't (so far) been able to find an app that lets me lock myself out of other apps depending on various contexts. The contexts are:

    *my location

    *the time

    *my calendar

It seems like certain apps will notify me of my usage, remind me when I have exceeded my allowed time on something, etc, but I cannot find anything that will hard lock me out. (I would also like to not be able to edit which apps are locked out and when during one of those contexts.) Does something like this exist for iOS? (I do this with Tasker in Android, but I don't really need a tasker replacement.)

    Upgrading to iOS 12.0.1

    Posted: 10 Oct 2018 05:08 AM PDT

So the new update for my iPhone 6S has shown up today. I'm running on 10.0.3 and I just want to ask users of iOS 10.0.3 that upgraded to 12.0.1 about their experiences.

Yes I've posted a similar thread before asking about iOS 11.x and I don't need the spiel to stay on 10.0.3. I just want to hear if there's anything abnormal/nothing wrong with 12.0.1 on iPhone 6S.

    Third party keyboard

    Posted: 10 Oct 2018 12:44 AM PDT

    Hello fellows iOS users,

As a new member of de iOS community (Got an iPhone XS Max) I am wondering which keyboard you're using on your iPhone and for what reason you're using that specific one.

So far I tried using the stock keyboard and SwiftKey. SwiftKey autocorrection is a lot better in my experience although the buttons are to small, maybe I need to get used to it.

iPhone X automatically installed iOS 12.1

    Posted: 10 Oct 2018 02:53 AM PDT

Several hours before iOS 12 release, I installed the beta profile and installed iOS 12 early. I checked on google that the last beta release of iOS 12 should be exactly the same as the final release, called the golden master. After I upgraded to iOS 12, I immediately deleted the beta profile to prevent getting other beta releases.

Several days later, I received a notification telling me that a software update (12.1) is ready, but when I went into software update and tried check for updates, it still says ios 12 is the latest. I ignored the notification and put the phone aside overnight. Surprisingly, the next day the phone automatically updated itself to ios 12.1... without the beta profile present.

Now my phone is on ios 12.1 (I suppose it is beta and not final release). Is this normal or did Apple still thought my phone was under beta profile even though I deleted the profile already?

P.S. Now I cannot receive ios 12.0.1 update, so I guess I have to wait until 12.1.1 or later to upgrade it back to public release?
