I'm so happy Apple finally decided to create a laptop with Touch ID, and no TouchBar. Posted: 30 Oct 2018 02:51 PM PDT I really dislike the touchbar, and have missed physical escape keys on my new work laptop. But, the 13" Macbook Pro without the TouchBar was also missing one of the best parts of the new lines, Touch ID. With the new Air, they've created a really awesome package for people like me. It's smaller than the 13" Pro, has Touch ID, and has physical function keys. And it's cheaper! If I needed a new laptop, this one would be a no brainer, and I finally feel like I can recommend a laptop in the line to most people. [link] [comments] |

There is no reason for the MacBook to exist with the new MacBook Air Posted: 30 Oct 2018 08:40 AM PDT The baseline MacBook costs more than the MacBook Air and is a downgrade in literally every way. Smaller screen, older generation keyboard, 480p camera, no thunderbolt 3, only 1 port, worse CPUs that are from last generation, no Touch ID. The MacBook no longer makes sense, and it didn't even make sense compared to the baseline MacBook Pro. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 Oct 2018 09:22 AM PDT Also the Air costs only 100 less than the cheapest pro, in Switzerland even just 70 less. It really makes no sense. The Air should be priced 100 cheaper and with 256GB SSDs. Then it would be fair. [link] [comments] |
The new iPad Pros have 6GB of RAM, but only the 1TB version. Others have 4GB Posted: 30 Oct 2018 11:18 AM PDT Developer Steve Troughton-Smith found this with Xcode https://twitter.com/stroughtonsmith/status/1057328143453904896 [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 Oct 2018 08:33 AM PDT You only get a higher clocked processor from the last generation, starting at a higher price. No Touch ID, no more ports. Working at a large Apple Premium Reseller in Germany, this will be a pain in the ass to tell customers the differences between these two devices. [link] [comments] |

Apple charges less for their usb-c to 3.5 mm adapter ($9) than Google ($12). Posted: 30 Oct 2018 05:27 PM PDT Just wanted to throw that out there. Always here everyone complaining about Apples prices but when it comes to a direct equal product they are cheaper by 25%. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 Oct 2018 12:25 PM PDT I know there's been a lot of discussion about the new macbook air today but it seems that a lot of people are assuming the "i5" processor offered in the new Air is similar to the i5 found in the previous Air and the current MBP. Please be aware this is not true. We don't have the exact processor model numbers yet, but you can just compare the clock speeds:
So it's pretty clear that the Macbook Air processor is virtually the same as the "i5" in the Macbook 12" The graphics chip is also pretty telling:
From a performance perspective:
Important Note: it appears the new Macbook Air is actively cooled, unlike the 12" macbook. So we should see somewhat better performance than the 12" macbook, but it is highly unlikely to match MBP Performance Important Note 2: For those unaware, Intel rebranded these low-power chips (which are part of the Y family of processors). Previously, they called m3/m5/m7 but are now called i3/i5/i7, despite their specs being a significant step below "traditional" 15w i series processors [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Oct 2018 08:37 AM PDT I was going through the product comparison page on apple's website and this one took my attention. Just a PSA for someone who uses their iPad to take pictures and take advantage of that bigger display. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Oct 2018 09:29 AM PDT Seriously, over a dozen times today Tim Cook & Co touted the latest iPads or for that matter, iPad in general as a PC replacement and a Console rival. They bought up data to tout their iPads as "more powerful than 92% of portable PCs" That's some real good marketing right there. And there lies the problem. The iPads still don't have a proper File Management System and Xcode to replace a PC. I can't transfer songs from my iPad to my iPhone by simply plugging the latter in, the Photoshop app demoed today was made on a PC. Conventional ways of interaction like Mouse and a keyboard still feel way more intuitive than what the iPad has to offer. Regarding the Xbox comparison, the A12 Bionic is insanely powerful but it lacks a proper cooling system. It doesn't have the required heat dissipation way to make the iPad perform on par with a full fledged console for longer than a minute. Apple, you can call the iPad with whatever-replacement you like, but the software and at times the hardware is really, really holding back this machine. A12 Bionic is an absolute monster, but it's held back by the restrictive software and a proper heat dissipation system. [link] [comments] |
