| How to download High Sierra after a complete reboot/ revert back to Lion Posted: 02 Sep 2018 01:13 PM PDT My late 2011 Macbook Pro was extremely slow and everything I tried didn't help, even erasing the disc and reinstalling High Sierra. So I ended up (somehow) reinstalling the whole laptop right back to the way that I first bought it, with Lion (10.7.5) I only just now realised that I can't just skip or gradually install the four or five OS tiers that have come between Lion and High Sierra, and have no idea how to update my OS away from Lion. I've tried logging into iCloud so that I could have a look at my app history on the App Store but when I try to log in it's asking me to enter a verification code after my password, which it has 'sent' to my current laptop's notifications, which I obviously can't see as I'm on said laptop with Lion. Can anybody help me figure out what the hell I should do now? I've been going in circles all day! Cheers :) [link] [comments]  |

| Weird disconnect between Macbook iMessage and iPhone iMessage Posted: 02 Sep 2018 05:35 PM PDT I posted this a week ago but haven't found a fix yet. I've got an iPhone 6s and a 2015 Macbook Pro. Somewhat recently, I've been noticing a problem where my iMessage push notifications on the Pro (which are turned on) don't show up, I just get a phone notification. Even when I've been texting on my laptop, the notifications just come up on my phone. So if I hear my phone vibrate while I'm on my laptop, I'll open the text on my laptop, but then my phone doesn't register that I've read it. Both devices are as updated as possible as far as I know. I recently updated everything and rebooted by computer, and it went back to normal but now is doing the same thing. I'm not a tech-savvy person so maybe it's an easy fix, but I'm hoping someone can help. [link] [comments]  |

When I tried to reinstall the os with internet recovery it said: "The file couldn't be opened because it is in an unexpected format. The file may be corrupted, truncated, or in an unexpected format." Her name is Rosalie and she's like an middle aged volvo. I love her. Started having frequent kernel panics in the spring (still running 10.12 at that time), did not keep logs at taht time, as I thought "ok time to buy new". Had multiple occurences of RAM errors (three beeps on startup) multiple times a day. Did appropriate resets (cmd-optn-r-p) and it persisted to varying degrees. Ove the past months, I have:

| How to fix 613 problems with Onedrive Posted: 02 Sep 2018 07:12 PM PDT About 2-3 months ago I downloaded onedrive to my mac and set it up. All went well until the syncing finished and I was left with 613 errors. I tried to fix it, but got frustrated so I just uninstalled it. Fast forward to today, and I get an email notifying me that my free storage is about to run out. So I install onedrive on my phone (all goes well there) and my computer. Posted: 02 Sep 2018 05:32 PM PDT a guy i have been talking to for a little told me he's going to be going to school in europe and won't be back until christmas. he said he won't have any contact with anyone while he's over there because he won't have service. so we were texting while he was on the plane until he told me he was landing. the next day i sent something to his phone but i meant to send it to someone else. however, the imessage said it was delivered. does this mean he saw my text? and if he did, can he actually reply? | Brand new MBP crashed and won't turn on Posted: 02 Sep 2018 05:26 PM PDT Was running civ and Netflix at the same time, game froze and then then the laptop crashed. Now it won't boot up again. Had about 50% power when it died. I can hear the sound effect when I plug in the charger but the computer is off Edit: After holding down the TouchID key for ~3 seconds the computer turned back on. So I have a Toshiba 1TB USB that worked perfectly until I decided to delete old backups and try using timemachine again which started the aforementioned problem. Posted: 02 Sep 2018 04:14 PM PDT The adapter is a Minx brand, and my charger has to go into the adapter first, so that my laptop will charge while I use the SD adapter, or the HDMI, or USB. The adapter gets really hot no matter if I'm using one port or a few of them. | Partition help. Brand new MacBook Pro. Posted: 02 Sep 2018 02:38 PM PDT Hi All, I'm hoping to get some help with a weird bug I got by partitioning my HD and installing Windows. I picked up a new MacBook Pro yesterday after a lot of research. There is a program that only works on windows so I had to partition the HD. I researched and heard good things about Boot Camp. So I was not too worried about any issues. Anyways, long story short the partition and windows install went fairly smooth. It did bomb out on my first attempt but worked on the second. My problem is whenever I reboot to macOS from windows, the keyboard and trackpad stop working completely. So I'm unable to login into macOS. Also the MacBook gets really hot. It eventually shuts itself off even. So far I have tried un-partitioning and doing a restore of MacOS back to factory settings. Then partitioning again and reinstalling windows. But that did not fix the issue. The only way around it is doing a full shut down and booting back up. That seems to allow for things to boot properly so the keyboard and trackpad works. Any ideas? I see the irony in this given it's caused by having to do a partition to run Microsoft. Edit: I took it back to the Apple store. They were unable to fix it. They told me some other guy came in after me while I was there who had the same issue. They were pretty certain it was a software, not a hardware issue. But I asked for an exchange anyways. I took it home and reinstalled windows. Lo and behold it worked. Restarted into macOS and was able to use the trackpad/keyboard. Hopefully it stays that way. [link] [comments]  |

Posted: 02 Sep 2018 11:16 AM PDT For years I had Ad Block (or Maybe Ad Block Plus) and one day it asked to update, requiring me to download a different version entirely. And now it sucks. It blocks legitimate content, requiring me to pause it all the time, and the pause takes a while with a spinning wheel in the little extension app at the top of Safari. I want something better. Smart and set-it-forget-it that is going to make those YouTube pre-roll ads stop and erase the ad content on web pages for Safari on a MacBook. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]  |
| MacBook - New YouTube video tab in Safari always refresh when opened Posted: 02 Sep 2018 10:36 AM PDT Hello, I have this strange problem. MacBook Air, High Sierra, using Safari browser. When I open Youtube video in new tab, and then select that tab, then video starts autoplay. But after 1-3 seconds webpage refreshes (only once) and so does video playback refreshes. It is very annoying. Posted: 02 Sep 2018 10:20 AM PDT I have literally 27 duplicate contact entries for my wife and father in my contacts list on my iPhone. iCloud and my MacBook are fine. I'm not sure how my phone got so messed up. A couple of others have 2-3 dupes. Aside from manually deleting the extra entries or getting a cleaner app to do it, is there any way to sync my phone to my iCloud contact list? The settings on my phone aren't getting it done. | New Macbook Pro - Wondering if I should buy a screen protector or not? Posted: 02 Sep 2018 10:13 AM PDT I've just purchased a 13 inch touch bar macbook and really want to treat this new computer gently. I will definitely buy a keyboard cover, but I feel like a screen protector would be a wise choice for me because I can be a little careless at times. If I should get a screen protector — should it be tempered glass or the plastic film cover? I really don't want to have little bubbles on my screen and I don't want to reduce the quality of the display. Does anyone have any recommendations?
