Will Mojave update system ruby? Posted: 24 Jun 2018 10:00 AM PDT I just wanted to know whether mojave updates ruby. Currently it is 2.3. I know I can use brew to get latest ruby version [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jun 2018 01:10 AM PDT I have 2 monitors connected to a mac trashcan running 10.12.6 - a 24" 1920x1200 monitor, and a 27" 3840 x 2160 monitor. When I look at the display preferences on the 24", the resolution options are "default" and "scaled". When I select scaled there are some specific resolution option to choose from (I am assuming default uses the 1920x1200 resolution, but can't confirm this, because the OS doesn't show numbers, just "default"). But on the 27" monitor, the "scaled" setting shows options from "larger text" to "more space", no specific resolutions can be chosen. When I choose "default" for this monitor, the text and icons are much bigger than I would expect for a 4k display. I can shrink the text using the "scaled" options but I want to know the actual resolution I am working in. Is this possible in mac os? If not, is there an app that will help me figure this out? Follow up rhetorical question - why do they make it so hard to know what screen resolution you are using?! [link] [comments] |

Mac OS Storage Issue from someone with limited knowledge Posted: 24 Jun 2018 08:54 PM PDT I'm sorry, I really do not know a ton about computers or anything about the inner workings of them. I have struggled with ridiculous storage inflation for probably about 2 years now. I am in college and have nothing more than a couple games downloaded (mainly Runescape and Minecraft), and primarily use my laptop for internet & research, and writing papers/doing homework. I have a Mid-2014 13-inch MacBook Pro, and am constantly battling to stay beneath the 250 GB storage capacity. Most recently, I have noticed in the last week, I have inexplicably lost 26 GB of storage. I have contacted Apple Support before, and they have been relatively unhelpful - so I hope Reddit can help me more! The best advice they have given me was to download and use a program called Disk Inventory X. It scans your storage & produces a report for what specific files are taking up the most space. Some of the largest appear to be corrupted (to an untrained eye, that is), and have long, nonsense file names, starting with "7caf" and going from there. https://i.redd.it/n6fuusk4l2611.png Has anyone experienced anything like this before? Or have any advice as to what is going on? [link] [comments] |
Is there a way to seamlessly view PDF in a continuous scroll ? Posted: 24 Jun 2018 12:13 PM PDT Link is a screenshot of Preview.app using continuous scroll. Is there an app or a tweak I can use to eliminate the border between pages? [link] [comments] |

FileVault Encryption taking weeks Posted: 24 Jun 2018 02:16 AM PDT I began a FileVault encryption on an external drive Friday night. It's Sunday morning and it's only 12% done. Disk read/write access is greatly affected. I can normally get close to 100 MB/s read/write. Now I'm getting only 10 during the encryption process. Is this normal? Even getting the progress percentage is painful I have backups of the drive and I'm tempted to just give up and format as encrypted from the start and do a restore, but considering the size of the drive, this will be a hassle I'd like to avoid. 2011 27inch iMac, High Sierra 4TB USB 3 hard drive, APFS formatted, connected through a Thunderbolt hub [link] [comments] |
