We live in a smaller town, so ATT told us to take it to an authorized Apple repair shop (Apple store is 2.5 hours away). She can't log into iCloud because the two-factor id process is sending a text to the phone she doesn't have. I gave her an old iPad mini to use and she can't even get started on that for the same reason. She has her MacBook Air and that's it, but can't check messages on it. | New iPhone tomorrow! Confused on how to set it up without restoring everything from backup. Posted: 04 Jun 2018 07:08 PM PDT I'm upgrading tomorrow to an 8 plus. I just backed up my current phone as both a full backup to my MacBook and an iCloud backup. I am pretty sure I do NOT want to set my phone up with backup. I have thousands of photos on my phone that I don't need or want. I've already imported important photos to Photos on my Mac, so I'm not worried about losing them. Same with contacts. Apps and Music are easy enough to re-install/download. What I'm not clear on is how to import only certain things to the phone if I set it up as new, contacts being one example. I have them on my computer, so can I just connect the phone to my Mac and have it go that way? Or will those automatically come back when I sign in to iCloud on the new phone? I have 21 GB of "Documents and Data" on my current phone, but I'm not what that is. When I try to look in Settings, it says that most of D&D is photo storage. However, iTunes shows an additional ˜20GB on my phone taken by photos, so I'm confused why they'd show up twice. Any ideas how to figure that out? I've been working on an iOS app in React Native, and my laptop does NOT like Xcode, which runs very sluggishly, even with an upgraded 8gigs of RAM. I'm a little unfamiliar with the refresh cycles for Apple. At this point is it worth getting a brand-new Macbook Pro, or should I wait until they refresh the line? I've got around 263gb in use, 1.74TB left in the cloud. So I deleted a ton of videos from the cloud, almost more than a 100gb worth. On the Mac in finder, it says I got 1.8x left, but when I go to the iCloud panel both on iOS and MacOS, it still says I'm using 263gb with 1.74TB left, as if nothing was deleted. Please help. | Replacing Macbook Retina Logic Board, how to recover? Posted: 04 Jun 2018 07:23 PM PDT I have a Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina that somebody spilled a drink on. It worked fine for a while but recently the fans would be on full blast constantly and the machine was very slow. Apple store said the logic board needed replaced because of some faulty temperature sensors, which makes sense. I bought a refurbished logic board on ebay and installed it thinking I could start it right up into recovery mode, but it isn't responsive to startup key commands. It always chimes, then displays a dark screen with a folder and a question mark. How am I supposed to recover my Mac, or even start a fresh install if I can't get to the boot menu or start up drive selection screen? Is the new board I bought faulty? The ifixit tutorials don't mention anything about the recovery process after doing the hardware installation. Thanks in advance for any help! [link] [comments]  |

| Posted: 04 Jun 2018 05:16 PM PDT I bought a Samsung T5 external SSD. If I try to backup to it, it will get to 14.79GB and then slow to a crawl. This is a usb 3.1 drive so the speeds should be pretty fast however even getting to that 14.79GB took over 30 mins, then after it hits 14.79 it slows even more. I did a time machine backup to a regular external hard drive and it worked fine, so I'm thinking this might have something to do with an SSD. I'm using a 2017 15 inch MacBook Pro and the hard drive is connected using the USB C cable that came with the Samsung [link] [comments]  |

| Need Help Fast! ManyCam is Hijacking My System! Posted: 04 Jun 2018 11:59 AM PDT I installed Manycam to my Macbook Pro, but it never worked right. I uninstalled it incorrectly, by dragging the file to the trash. I now know this was wrong. But whenever I want to use my camera on a webinar system like Zoom or etc, and it asks permission, it defaults to my Manycam, not my regular Facetime camera and I literally CANNOT get Facetime camera to be the default cam on the system. No way to! As the app is deleted now, ManyCam's tutorials on removal are useless - I have NO WAY TO ACCESS ANY CONTROLS, When I search for "ManyCam" on the system, it comes up with nothing. The app is literally gone, but left crap in its wake that is still hijacking my system. Right now, I can't get my cam to turn OFF because of it. (eeeek! using the ol' PostIt Hide-a-Cam solution, lol...which is no good longterm!) I looked into an old post here that listed places the system files are, and none of them are there. I am hosting a huge telesummit this week and am DESPERATE for help on this! Do I need to hire an expensive tech or can someone walk me through this? I'm reasonably competent on a PC but the Mac system (which I truly hate) is not letting me have access to root files so...NO idea what may be "behind the curtain" Can anyone help me get this MONKEY OFF MY BACK? I got an e-mail which I am now well aware is a scam email. I didn't click any links, however I did copy and paste the link into my phone browser. I usually paste into a google link to see if it is a scam looking web address but since I was doing it from my phone I spaced out and hit enter. It took me to a page that had something to do with Twitter saying it was a dangerous link, something about stealing passwords.. I freaked out and clicked out of it and erased my history. I'm now on Airplane mode. I'm not sure, since I clicked out of it so quickly, if I even went to the phishing site or if it stopped me with a warning. Does anyone have any advice on this? Is it possible for someone to hack into my phone from going to the link or would I have had to enter information? I feel like a total idiot. Is there anything else I should do to protect myself? I am currently running MacOS 10.13.3 and I would like to update the OS to 10.13.5. This is what I have done, already a couple of times. I open the App Store, I check under Updates and I select 10.13.5. The Mac restarts, update progress is displayed and the Mac restarts again after few minutes. When the Mac restarts, the OS is still 10.13.3. No error message. If I check the App Store, it tells me "No Updates Available". If I wait few hours, the App Store will show me 10.13.5 again. I have tried this already two times. I have also downloaded and run the 10.13.5 Combo update from Apple's servers, but the same story. What's going on?!? [link] [comments]  |
| Posted: 04 Jun 2018 03:20 AM PDT I'm not sure whether to post here on in r/legal. Bought Macbook Pro in Canada in Aug 2017. It randomly didn't turn on on May 8 (not dropped or damaged in any way). Took it to Authorized Service Provider in the UK that Apple recommended on its website (not Apple store). After a week, I ask them what's going on, and the service provider says that the harddrive is under constraints, so replacement won't be available till Jun 14 (37 days later). They say I have a right to a replacement computer but they can't issue one since they're a third party dealer so I have to deal with Apple directly. Since then, I've been talking to various Apple 'senior' customer relations advisors. One of them said he would send me a new computer (2 weeks ago) and then he went MIA. Other advisors say that they cannot issue a new computer until 30 days has passed. They don't have managers I can talk to, I tried. I just received an email from the Service Provider saying they talked to Apple and were told that I would get no replacement computer at all and I just have to wait for computer to get fixed. Is this normal? What else can I do? I have my dissertation due in a few weeks and aim going crazy. Somebody please help! [link] [comments]  |

I've seen all the complaints about the recent models' keyboards; knowing that, is it better to buy a more recent model with the upgraded specs, or the 2015 model which comes with the better keyboard? | Posted: 04 Jun 2018 03:37 PM PDT For example, today I've apparently had some random brief drops to the 50s (there's usually one or two a day so I've always taken them as bad readings since I heard those are common) with the rest being in the mid 60s to 70s at the lowest. The Health app says my average resting heart rate is 61, but Cardiogram says 73. I went back 5 days and the discrepancy persists between the two apps despite similar patterns (most readings in 70s and higher with a couple dips into low 60s and 50s). Some days it's only 10 beats different but in one it's almost 25. Which app is more accurate? I'm only worried because the Health app puts me on the verge of having a low heart rate and I don't really exercise so I don't think it should be that low. Plus I'm a bit of a hypochondriac so that doesn't make it any better. I just had a physical last month and they didn't say anything about my heart rate while I was there or notice any arrhythmia.
