| Constant flashing folder with question mark (Imac) Posted: 28 Jun 2018 09:05 PM PDT Ok, here it goes. I have a Late 2013, 27-inch Imac. Within the past 3 months it has been abnormally shutting down on me (usually when I'm not on it) and displaying a black screen with a flashing question mark folder. I do a hard shutdown and power it back up holding CMD+R. Once that loads I click on Disk Utility. Sometimes, not all the time, my hard drive will show up. Scenario A - Hard drive appears If it does pop up I run first aid and get green check marks. Once I'm done in Disk Utility I restart my computer. This time it'll boot up, but it will display a message about my computer not being shut down properly. Also, it will ask if I want all the apps opened that were open prior to the abnormal shutdown. Life continues normally until it abnormally shuts down again. Scenario B - Hard drive does not appear If it does't appear under Disk Utility, the only option left is to restart. Reinstalling won't work since it can't find a drive to write it on. Restarting leads to another flashing question mark folder which leads to another hard shutdown followed by another CMD+R start up. If the hard drive appears then I run with scenario A. If it doesn't appear then I repeat Scenario B. Please help, this iMac is barely 5 years old. Don't tell me it's dying. [link] [comments]  |
| iPhone 8 - How can I transfer photos FROM Windows 10 TO the iPhone without using the cloud? Posted: 28 Jun 2018 09:23 PM PDT A while back my son wanted a bunch of photos pulled off his old iPhone, so I plugged it into my computer (Windows 10) and opened his phone as a drive in Windows Explorer. I went to the DCIM folder, and copied all of his pics to my hard drive, no problems. Today he got his upgrade to an iPhone 8 and wants some of the pics put back on the new phone. No problem, I'll just reverse my steps and drag the files back into his DCIM folder......but wait. It's not letting me do that. What the heck? He's got too many pics for the cloud (without upgrading), and he'd like them to return to his "camera roll" as opposed to using iTunes to transfer the files. (Apparently that gets a different result? I don't know, it's just what he told me). I'm an Android guy, so I freely admit I'm not proficient with Apple products. Can someone point me in the right direction on this? Thanks in advance! | iCloud backing up some but not all Messages Posted: 28 Jun 2018 08:18 PM PDT Hi, my girlfriend is updating from an iPhone 6 (iOS 11.4) to an iPhone 8 tomorrow. She's currently backing everything up just to make sure she has everything in order but she noticed that only some of her conversations from Messages are getting backed up. This doesn't seem to have anything to do with whether the messages are iMessage or just plain SMS since some of the conversations being backed up are from her friends with Android phones. However, our conversations (all SMS) and some others are simply not being backed up. She's tried rebooting, manually having iCloud back up, turning the "backup Messages" switch on and off again, etc. Nothing has helped. Anybody know what might be causing this? | Eating all the storage on my iPad Posted: 28 Jun 2018 01:45 PM PDT Hey Guys So I deleted VLC one day to save space on my iPad since I had watched basically everything I had put on it and the videos on there were taking up a couple GB. Now I noticed that there is a lot of "other" space eating up storage on my iPad. I was just wondering if there is a way to get this storage back. I've clearing caches, but I have the sneaking suspicion that this was cause by deleting VLC and the videos with it. Any ideas or help would be most welcome [link] [comments]  |
| Cannot merge all my partitions on iMac 2014 Posted: 28 Jun 2018 06:36 PM PDT I had bootcamp and removed it and tried to get it back but now I cannot merge my partitioned SSD into a single partition. I tried it a variety of times, trying to fix the error but instead I created a bunch of small partitions that I cannot seem to get rid of. Here's my diskutl list. Yeah, it's a mess. Is there an easy way to go about this? If not, can I just format the entire Mac in a way that would put all the partitions back together? I'm doing a backup right now. | 2016 Touch Bar MacBook Pro won't boot without working battery? Posted: 28 Jun 2018 05:14 PM PDT Hi, I recently had some component level repair work done on a 2016 Touch Bar 13 inch MacBook Pro logic board. Apple had quoted $1200 to replace the logic board and also insisted on replacing the "top case", which includes a new battery, trackpad, keyboard, etc. I didn't have $1200 so I couldn't afford to go throughApple for the repair, so I took it to a store that does component level repair for liquid damaged boards. The board had only mild signs of corrosion and the board was cleaned up nicely but a few components needed to be replaced (it initially had no power). The store also advised that I'd need a new battery before I would be able to get the computer booting again, as apparently the battery was also damaged. I was quoted $250 for the replacement with installation but again I'm not in good financial shape and I'm also quite interested in learning and becoming more familiar with mild to medium level MacBook repairs so after sourcing a used/working battery pulled from a defunct A1706 for $70 I figured I'd take on the job myself. Does anyone know if it's true that these MacBooks will not power on without a functional battery installed? On older model MacBooks, 200x - 2015, I could always disconnect the battery and run the machine without a battery attached. Any truth to this technicians statement? I don't have the new battery yet but the logic board has been supposedly fixed and I don't want to buy and install a new battery until I can confirm there are no other issues with the machine. I may not be able to afford a new battery for a few weeks but I want to ensure that this logic board was actually repaired. Is there any way to get it started if the battery doesn't work? It currently will not power on, just as it had not been powering on before I paid $500 to have the board repaired. I'd appreciate if anyone with expertise could provide some insight here. | Posted: 28 Jun 2018 01:00 PM PDT I can no longer send imessages in my group chat. All messages I send are sent as a text message, however the others in the group text are still sending as imessage. I believe this happened after one of them removed the group text name. I have tried turning my phone on and off, along with also toggling imessage in settings. [link] [comments]  |
| Dropped 2011 Macbook Pro and the screen producing random colors Posted: 28 Jun 2018 12:46 PM PDT I got a cable to plug from the computer to an HDMI monitor to check and see if the screen was just shot, however, the monitor kept saying No Signal. removed some of the post details since I fixed it Edit: Well the good news is I'm editing this on my macbook. I opened up the case because I wanted to just check some of the wires and cables, because I wasn't fully trusting the external monitor fix I tried since my inputs are shot, and sure enough, I pressed on a few of the cables and when I tried it, back in action. Now if only I could get these USB ports working which have been getting less and less consistent. The headphone jack doesn't stick in either, but works. [link] [comments]  |

I read online to use compressed air to try and clean out but that didn't work. Any other tips/tricks? Is it worth buying the tool to open up phone and trying to pull screen off and clean behind it? | Methods of retrieving data from mid-2013 MacBook Air SSD? Posted: 28 Jun 2018 11:54 AM PDT For some backstory I've been running Windows 10 on my 13 inch mid-2013 MacBook Air with no issue, but all of a sudden it seems my main partition is corrupted and Windows won't start. I've tried data retrieval through an Ubuntu Live USB along with chkdsk on my Windows 10 install USB but to no avail. As a last resort for getting my data back I wanted to plug my SSD into another computer and use more thorough data retrieval tools from there. I looked into methods of connecting my internal SSD ti other computers but all I could find compatible was this, which is super expensive and probably way more than what I actually need. Are there other products that offer similar capabilities but for less? All I'm looking for is a way to connect the SSD directly to USB or something as if it were an external drive (prefarably USB 2, as the computer I'm trying to connect it to is around 12 years old and won't run anything past Windows XP.) Another sidenote, the SSD still seems to function fine and I could reinstall Windows 10 or OS X to it if I wanted to, but I don't want to have to erase my data if I don't have to. | Notes sharing - clicking the share button doesn’t do anything Posted: 28 Jun 2018 11:13 AM PDT I have setup iCloud in my computer and checked the "Notes" button in System Preferences —> iCloud. All Notes I created in my Mac are sync to iCloud.com and vice verse. However, I am unable to share note to other people: 1). On the Mac, I clicked on the "Add people to this note" (circle icon with a person head and a "+") and nothing happened. Clicking it didn't do anything. 2). On iCloud.com, I clicked on the same button and this time a box pop-up and asked me to enter the email address of the recipient to share the note. I entered and ... nothing happened. The recipient never received any email for a shared note. Using the same iCloud account, I tried this on 3 different MacBooks and one is a fresh install. Same issue. Is there anything I need to setup to get this working? The issue happen with both Notes app in Mac and Notes app in iCloud.com. [link] [comments]  |

And so I wanted to connect a USB Keyboard to it but for some odd reason my keyboard map is completely messed up. for example the Q key types out an X or the Y key types out 7, but straggly enough the Delete key and üäö are all at the correct place. So my logical thought was to look up the keyboard settings on my Mac and all seems to be fine. I tried to look for a keyboard remapping software but I can't find any or does that do are out dated [link] [comments]  |
| MacBookPro14,3 (15", 2017 w/ touchbar) - screen changing hue spontaneously Posted: 28 Jun 2018 03:30 AM PDT I have not been able to pin point any kind of relationship, but suddenly my screen would take on a orange-ish hue and then fade back to a somewhat normal blue-ish hue. The transition is like a pulse of orange hue, which fades away (not like the transition to night mode). I've googled around, but there is no such symptom for this particular mac described. | Suddenly unable to send SMTP Mail from outlook.com email address using Mac Mail Posted: 28 Jun 2018 10:00 AM PDT Hello I am using Mac mini macOS High Sierra version 10.13.5 Mac Mail version Version 11.4 (3445.8.2) I have an outlook.com email address that I use infrequently. I am now not able to send mail. I get this error message when I try. The sender address redacted@outlook.com was rejected by the server smtp-mail.outlook.com. The server response was: SMTP; Client was not authenticated to send anonymous mail during MAIL FROM [redacted.eurprd03.prod.outlook.com] before eurpd03.prod.outlook.com there were some letters and numbers that meant nothing to me. I redacted them just in case they did mean something. Here is a screenshot https://imgur.com/a/vEkRYcg The last time I successfully sent an email from this account was 25 May and I changed my password on 23 May. I have looked up what the correct settings should be but I can't find out how to add a port number to the smtp server, and the Mac Mail dialog boxes I see on help pages don't seem to correspond with my own Mac Mail dialog boxes. I am able to log into Outlook.com and use my mail. I can also send and receive mail on my iPhone. My iPhone only seems to show messages for a day or so though. Don't know why this should be. | Macbook Pro Mid 2015 showing static Noise and flickering Posted: 28 Jun 2018 08:31 AM PDT My Macbook has recently started to show static noise (plus some RGB Glitches) when booting (and other times too). After a while the static noise changes to a flickering and slowly lessens and finally goes back to normal. I haven't been able to find any similar problem online and i couldn't identify a pattern. I got 2 external Monitors attached (one is a graphic tablet) and since Dropbox is trying to sync files the macbook cooling system turns on, which hasn't been a problem before. | Posted: 28 Jun 2018 07:43 AM PDT Hey guys, My Iphone started doing this last week and is basically inoperable. Ever since I updated my phone has shat out on me - external speaker suddenly doesn't work but I can still make calls, they can hear me I can hear them. I've had the battery changed and that still didn't do anything. Now i'm contemplating buying a new phone but I still need to get the data off it. It won't recognize a charge and is stuck at a false 79%. As a result, Itunes won't recognize my phone. However, i've had a rare instance in the last couple days that when it's battery hits 0%, it asks for a charging cable and then it will operate normal for about an hour and then go back into reboot loop. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can recover data with this boot loop, or better yet, resolve it? I've tried googling a lot of it and none of the solutions helped. It says like "a track was successfully added" but when I open the playlist it's completely empty and says "add more music". Same thing happens when I want to save the album, it's just not saving for some reason. Do anyone know wtf to do with that? Playlists are like the most important thing there for me. Learning the differences shows that it's the one I use heavily at work everyday (and it was used when it came to me) so that seems like a good call. Thanks again! I'm looking to either buy a used Wired Magic Keyboard or an equivalent. I know that the new "Wireless" one actually can work wired via lightning cable but I also want the USB slots that the wired model has. The computer I would primarily use this with is a 2013 Haskell iMac, though I also own a 2015 15" Macbook Pro. My questions are:
