    WWDC 2018 | Pre-event Megathread

    Only 13 hours to go!

    Today (EST) its the first day of Apple's World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC). The first day is when Apple announces updates to their Operating Systems (iOS, watchOS, tvOS, macOS, audioOS [Homepod]).

    Use this thread for your predictions, and anything else that comes to your mind.

    Per Apple:

    "This stream is best experienced on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using Safari on iOS 10 or later; a Mac using Safari on macOS Sierra 10.12 or later; or a PC using Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge. Streaming to Apple TV via AirPlay requires an Apple TV (2nd generation or later) with the latest Apple TV software or tvOS. Other platforms may also be able to access the stream using recent versions of Chrome or Firefox (MSE, H.264, and AAC required)."

    Quick reminder for all:

    • The sub will be on "lockdown". All submissions will be turned off beginning at 10am PDT/1pm ET and will be turned back on as soon as the event is over. We will, however, be actively removing duplicate threads. So please check /new before submitting news.

    • We will provide pre-event (this thread), event, and post-event megathreads to discuss what's happening. We will also be doing a live thread.

    • This thread will be active until tomorrow

    • We do not allow bug threads on beta releases. /r/iOSBeta, /r/watchOSbeta, /r/tvOSBeta and /r/OSXBeta are your go-tos for bug threads. "Feature" and "PSA" threads will be approved on a case by case basis.

    New Airpods seem to be announcing tomorrow...

    Checking stock on the Airpods in Toronto, a couple of days ago it showed stock in all the stores and just checked today and all shows available June 18. Seems very odd that all would go out of stock suddenly and have a new restock date. Pretty good sign a new model is coming out?

    EDIT: Checked again and ALL of Canada shows out of stock (except one store) and available June 18. US still shows in stock in stores though.

    How is the Apollo App? Looks interesting, does anyone know if/how much personal info they collect?

    Do we know what information the app collects on us? For instance, can the dev see all the subreddits we visit and everything else?

    If so, then the device ID can be connected to a certain persons habits/subreddits/username...etc?

    Pride Watch Face available after midnight

    Simple thing really! Just passed midnight in the U.K. and now suddenly the Pride watch face that was being talked about is already available! Hopefully it's a permanent new watch face and not just for pride month!

    If it's not available in the US yet then perhaps at midnight for you guys it will become available?

    Mobile Safari is holding the iPad back

    For those of us watching the WWDC Keynote from Microsoft Edge tomorrow, use Ctrl-F5 to force reload from server instead of cache.

    Being that the Keynote is at 1pm on a Monday, I have to be at work. Unfortunately, that requires working on a Windows PC and only Microsoft Edge is able to play Apple's streams.

    Last year for the iPhone event, the webpage wouldn't reload with the video feed when the event started. I missed the entire Steve Jobs tribute! What was happening was that Edge was pulling the site from cache instead of from the server.

    All you have to do is press Ctrl-F5 to force a reload from the server.

    I've had several friends who have moved abroad and have had to change phone numbers. Wish that I could say "this is x persons new number" and have previous messages in that same thread. So text messages tied to the person more then the number.

    What instances caused you to be happy you bought a MacBook instead of a MacBook Pro?

    The MacBook cost just as much as a MacBook Pro however it has less power, less I/O and a smaller screen according to the specs.

    I need a new laptop. I never owned a MacBook. I want to know if I'm missing something since the MacBook costs so much. I'm coming from a MacBook Pro late 2013.

    I just want a computer that is very reliable and has a good display.

    What do you guys recommend?

    I plan on picking up a new iPad Pro 12.7" (2017/2nd gen.) + Pencil today. How big is my risk of owning an "outdated" device after the WWDC?

    Do you use iCloud Photo Library?

    If so, do you also backup the entire library via another method as well? I've recently ventured into the phone/iPad world and gotten rid of my MacBook Pro. I like the idea of iCloud Photo Library but have been told I need to be really wary of that being the only place my photos are stored/backed up to. How do you store/backup your photos? Do I NEED a computer just for this reason alone?

    Are they still doing these recalls? It's still on the Apple site but I'm not very sure. Also, does anyone know wether the speaker has to be in a decent state or doesn't that matter?
