    Using Messenger on iPad

    Posted: 31 May 2018 08:30 AM PDT

I downloaded Messenger for a friend onto her iPad because she was prompted when she received some messages in Facebook. We re-booted her iPad, opened Messenger, got prompt to continue as her, then got this screen. Everytime we tried. The little arrow on the left bounces, but does nothing when tapped. This is what we get whether opening the app from FB or Messenger. Anyone ever see this? Know a fix? Thanks.

Edit: I was able to open her Messenger on my Android phone, and she could read her messages.

With WWDC coming soon, do you think iOS 12 will still support A7 iPads?

    Posted: 31 May 2018 05:55 AM PDT

My iPad Air (first gen) is still really smooth on iOS 11 albeit abit slow, and I only need to charge about once every week or two, with a usage time of at least 10 hours on every charge. And that's coming from an iPad that was purchased in January 2014. Seeing as the A7 processor is still so capable, I hope it'll still be supported in iOS 12, just like the iPad 2 from iOS 4 to iOS 9.

    What do you think?

Doees iOS iTunes support BPM information/sorting by BPM.

    Posted: 31 May 2018 05:41 AM PDT

I'm considering purchasing an iPad for various daily tasks (e.g. note taking, reading PDFs, browsing the web etc), and I'd be interested in seeing if I could also use it for playing music of a specific bpm (ideally from iTunes).

I'm a part-time swing dance dance teacher, and software developer full time. When running classes, I use a mac, with iTunes, to select music for practice etc. I have a fairly large library (>30GB) of music, with most songs BPM'd by hand, and tagged with various bits of information (e.g. "chuggy swing", "smooth sax solo"). I'd ideally like to replace my heavy laptop with a lighter device, without much extra effort. Would an iPad be capable of this?

Put more simply, my questions are:

    • Does iTunes on iOS support BPM information and notes, in an easily accessible/viewable manner (ideally including sorting by BPM).
    • Is it possible to import BPM information, playlists, etc into iOS iTunes, in order to avoid duplicating the effort of BPMing individual tracks, and rebuilding playlists.

    Thanks!

    Posted: 31 May 2018 05:59 AM PDT

Planning on buying ipad pro to use for note taking and for media consumption. I want a pro over normal ipad bc I want to use this in the long run even after college. is 2017 sufficient enough? or should I wait to see if they announce a new ipad pro? I feel like some of the possible new features being added are not essential for me. thoughts?

    Making the leap

    Posted: 31 May 2018 06:44 AM PDT

I just ordered my refurbished 12.9 256Gb iPad Pro to replace my iPad Air 2.

I am a Network Engineer by trade and currently maintain several Moleskin notebooks for different functions in my career and personal life. My goal with the iPad Pro is to go totally paperless.

I also use a MacBook Pro and Surface 4 which I don't think I could totally give up as I need console access to network devices. I also do a lot of work in GUIs which may not work well with the iPad Pro as it doesn't support a mouse.

I plan on using OneNote which I like over Evernote with it's usage of tabs and cross platform support.

I also plan on leveraging GoodNotes for anything I want to do handwritten and bullet journaling.

Any good advice for going this leap?

How do I import/edit video on the iPad? Why is this so difficult?

    Posted: 30 May 2018 06:54 PM PDT

I just got back from vacation and shot a lot of video with my Sony a6000 and on my Android phone. I have iMovie, Adobe Spark Video and Adobe Clip installed on my 2018 iPad. How the heck do I put external video on my iPad's internal storage and edit it using an app on the iPad?! I just want to sit on my couch messing around with some video editing instead of at my desktop where I spend all day for work.

Debating between 128 GB 9.7" iPad ($399) and 258 GB 10.5" iPad Pro (~$649) for school.

    Posted: 30 May 2018 06:14 PM PDT

I've been thinking about this for a while so I figured I would ask people who use iPads to see if I get to the same conclusion. Currently attending school and I've been tired of losing the papers I've written notes on, so hence the decision to purchase (or not) and iPad.

    Main expected uses:

    • Write on PDFs, PowerPoints, Note-taking apps

    • PUBG

What I could tell, what I'm paying for is the extra storage space, slightly faster speeds, slightly larger screen, and 2 extra speakers.

It seems that both iPads come with Apple Pencil support, though someone at Costco mentioned that there are some features of the Pencil that is not supported by the new 9.7" iPad (though the person at Best Buy said that it was not the case).

I also don't think I need the larger screen or the faster speeds as this would mainly be for note-taking, and I don't see myself listening to anything on it too heavily as I'll mostly be using headphones.

I would be ecstatic if someone could go ahead and mention their experience with either device, and maybe answer some of my following questions:

    • How long do these devices generally last? Does Apple do a good job on giving older devices updates as well? Or do they stop supporting older versions to push people to upgrade?

    • Are there any good note taking apps which essentially have an unlimited blank canvas? Is it comfortable writing on (can you simultaneously rest your hand/fingers while writing)

    • I notice that there is only a keyboard for the 10.5"; do people have reasonably priced accessories for the case/keyboard or combination of both?

    • I've also noticed that most people don't elect to protect their screen with a screen protector, though I might. People who do, did you notice any diminished screen clarity (graininess) or difficulty writing (due to material feel or the extra thickness)?

    • How much storage does the system itself take on various storage capacities? I saw a 32 GB and it looked like it took around 4 GB, but the 64 looked like it took 8 GB. Has anyone purchased one and regretted getting a smaller size?

    • Is there a particular reason I'm not thinking of to get the iPad Pro? It's technically only $250 more though it feels like a lot more since I would be inclined to purchase the keyboard-case combo which is $159.

I understand that it's a lot to answer, and I would be very grateful if someone could talk this through with me and bring their own experience with their iPad.

    Posted: 30 May 2018 11:13 PM PDT

Hi. My iPad can only barely get 3 hours SOT and 9 h standby time. Is this usual and get my battery replaced or should I get a new iPad next week when the Pro 10.5 (2018) come out and trade my current iPad Pro (128 gb) (worth 240 USD)?

How do you work this thing?

    Posted: 30 May 2018 06:37 PM PDT

Hi. I'm an Android regular *raises shield for cover*

I bought an iPad (6th gen) recently because I know the lightning to VGA/HDMI will always work. That alone is the deal breaker for me instead of an Android tablet. I bought an iPad 2 many years ago and sold it off 2 weeks later (that's another story).

I started using an iPad again for work. So I thought getting a 128Gb would make so much sense. I was dumbfounded to know later that I can't create the simplest *directory/folder* in the system root. I know there's a 'workaround' but that doesn't count. I later learned that folders are created by some of your apps only (i.e. Keynote, Excel, etc...).

    1. So, please teach me. How do I organize offline files?
    2. I know there are clouds built-in, so what's the huge storage for?

It's definitely my own fault for not checking on how work will be like on it but I thought something as simple as creating a folder would be a thing in iPad.

    Thanks in advance!

Is an iPad mini 4 worth it in 2018?

    Posted: 30 May 2018 06:37 PM PDT

I recently made the switch from android phones to iPhone, and I am extremely pleased. This has prompted me to want to switch my android tablet to an IOS tablet to keep things uniform and have my manga and such sync. The problem is, I have an 8 inch android tablet and I love that size. The iPad mini 4 is several years old now, would it be a bad idea to look for a used one?
