PSA: Wifi fade out every 60 seconds [SOLVED] Posted: 01 Apr 2018 12:47 PM PDT I've been experiencing 1-3 seconds every minute of high latency on ping times (up to 4000ms round trip, but usually 1000m-1500ms) for the past few months. The real world impact was video calls became really hard to do well on my MacBook and frustration browsing. I spent some time today debugging and found the answer, which I'm sharing here in case it helps anyone else. The culprit was a combination of iCal & locationd. I know I've exceeded the 10,000 item limit for one of my calendars on iCal, and as a result use Fantastical instead. But iCal was still enabled for locationd in the background. This caused the following symptoms every 60 seconds for about 2-3 seconds:
Whenever locationd does run something in the console appears looking like this: WIFI_LOC: reset When this happens your wifi appears to be unavailable for a short while, typically about 500ms by the looks of the log. If you have a big calendar - for instance, if you've been encountering problems with a hot running CalendarAgent process - and you have location services enabled for iCal, then you get a lot more stuff in the logs and you will likely experience what I was describing above. The solution is simple: disable Location Services for iCal and you'll be fine. I know this is an edge case most folks won't encounter, I couldn't find anything similar on the web so I'm posting my fix here. [link] [comments] |
Target Display Mode problems continue on High Sierra Posted: 01 Apr 2018 06:16 PM PDT Problem: I put my 2013 iMac into target display mode (TDM, not target DISK mode) via Thunderbolt cable for a 2012 MBP. I walk away from the computer. I come back to find the iMac in one of three states:
I have tried "Sleeping the MBP", letting the default settings put it to sleep, shutting down the MBP, disconnecting the iMac before each of these and leaving them connected. I get contradictory results most EVERY time I follow the same process. I don't leave the desk when I should because I dread having to come back to this mess when I need/want to get work done. Requests: Anyone who has a solution for using an iMac as a secondary monitor wherein I don't have to completely disassemble my work setup EVERY time I want to use the second monitor. High Sierra 10.13.4 Defect: Cisco AnyConnect (4.3.05017) No longer launches and hangs on execution Posted: 01 Apr 2018 02:00 PM PDT Upgraded to High Sierra 10.13.4 and now AnyConnect (4.3.05017) won't work. Anyone have a fix? This is a corporate machine so I can't just download the latest version of AnyConnect (4.6.00362 apparently available). [link] [comments] |
cursor disappearing for external monitor in some text editor apps in 10.13.4 Posted: 01 Apr 2018 04:44 PM PDT Anyone else having this issue? After I upgraded to 10.13.4, my mouse cursor no longer shows up in certain apps such as iTerm, Sublime Text, and Atom when my mbp is connected to an external monitor. Restarting doesn't solve the issue. [link] [comments] |
Is there a way to disable all OSX animations? Posted: 01 Apr 2018 03:53 PM PDT The shrink/restore from dock and switching between spaces animations annoy me. I have tried various commands found online as well as ticking the 'reduce motion' box under accessibility preferences - nothing seems to do much. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
10.13.4 MBP 2017 - cannot install - How to recover? Posted: 01 Apr 2018 07:09 PM PDT Ok. Just tried to update latest OS, but it gets stuck. I get "macOS could not be installed on your computer. The installer resources were not found. Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again". After restart it asks my password and gets back to error-screen. I am basically stuck in restart-loop. Any ideas how to proceed? [link] [comments] |
Question about TimeMachine Backup Posted: 01 Apr 2018 07:00 PM PDT Ello there. so apparently EtreCheck (any my own observations of the activity monitor / SafariBookmarkSync Hell-of-a-Process) led me to the conclusion to re install my macbook etc. My Question now: in the past i always made a new/fresh install and simply brought back the stuff i really needed, so i have a "fresh" new system. but right now i seem to wonder, is that really necessary ?? Mayor Issues: Anything that appears on this list needs immediate attention.
Minor Issues: These issues do not need immediate attention but they may indicate future problems.
Configuration Files: File /etc/sudoers size: Found 1624 but expected 1563 aso. So, my question is: if i delete everything and reinstall high sierra, and restore the from timemachine, are these problems gone or still there? (or asked another way around: do time machine restore the "bad" things as well, or would it be "almost" like a fresh install and timemachine simply put certain apps/docs/stuff where it was before?
