iPad Pro in (college) class. How it feels, how people react.

    Posted: 07 Apr 2018 10:58 AM PDT

During this college year (Aerospace Engineering) I've been using the iPad Pro 12.9 from day one. Prior to that I used an iPad Air 2 with a stylus for almost 2 other college years. This is my experience with it, in case anyone was wondering or wanted to know how it's like.

Obviously, iPad Pro + Pencil and the Air 2 with a spongy stylus are night and day. I couldn't believe how smooth and pinpoint the pro + pencil was. I went from using the Air 2 to briefly annotate and highlight powerpoints in class and then tediously make my notes at home, to straight up having not touched a paper for 8 months now.

I use Notability in class, recording the teacher, and it's incredibly useful later at home when I visit again my notes for that day. It's funny because the first thing I noticed was everyone was staring at me. Or, at the iPad actually. I share class with around 180 other people, and most of them discreetly (not) stared at me going at it with the iPad. 5 or 6 guys even went up to me and straight asked me about it, and wanting to try it.

Now, I wasn't the only one with tablets at class. Come on, it's 2018, more than half the class have their tablets or laptops at the table. But so far, I was the only one taking notes as is on it. And what I love is that 2 other people have bought it and have started taking notes the same way I do, they even asked me for tips and stuff. They said they were just amazed watching me and instantly knew they wanted one.

Even some teachers have actually asked me or made a comment about it. In an aircraft navigation course, everyone had printed a bunch of flight charts and were having trouble looking at it while I was marking them, zooming in and out, and seamlessly navigating between one another. The teacher had me wait at the finish of the class to show him the iPad and how I was doing all that. He was flipping shit honestly.

There are more stories like these, but I just felt like sharing how the experience has been. It's interesting to see the social aspect of it, taking for granted that the pro + pencil combo works simply beautifully. I'd love to hear similar stories, or answer some questions from other students thinking about getting one!

Screen protector for new 9.7 ipad that doesn't affect the pencil experience much?

    Posted: 07 Apr 2018 12:08 PM PDT

Can someone recommend one? Should I even get one? I normally don't get any protectors for my devices, but the constant pencil use on this one scares me. I will use it mainly for sketching.

Ipad pro 9.7 vs new Ipad 9.7

    Posted: 07 Apr 2018 08:16 AM PDT

Either I'm really bad at googling or it doesn't exist yet. Anyone know which one is better? I have the pro 9.7 but the battery is so bad...considering trading it in.

Are there good directional mics that are compact to work in conjunction with apps like notability?

Perspective zoom happens to a small degree even if it’s turned off?

Is this a new 'feature' or am I just noticing this now?

Anyone else notice this with the new iPad 9.7 with the Apple Pencil

    Posted: 07 Apr 2018 12:03 PM PDT

I'm on the new 6th gen iPad. If I go into any drawing app and I carefully hover the Pencil 0.1-0.2 (not sure but it's a tiny distance) mm from the screen, it'll still register as a Pencil input. It isn't really bothersome as the Pencil and iPad still work as expected but I was just wondering if the Pencil is supposed to work like this, and/or if anyone else is getting this.

Bug with the music ap won't let me exit the artists section

    Posted: 07 Apr 2018 05:56 AM PDT

So, I was derping around in the music app and I went to the artists section of my library (no artists are actually there, just in case you need to know), and I can't go back to the other parts of my library. I can tap the ( < Library) button, but nothing happens. Currently, the only way to get to my playlists is to use the search tab.

    Any help?

I bought the new iPad but onenote isnt helping sell the need for the tablet for school work, Ive read about noteability, any users who have experience with it i have some questions!

    Posted: 06 Apr 2018 03:59 PM PDT

    1. How does it compare to onenote? Is it worth the 10 bucks?
    2. When you record a lecture, does it highlight which notes you were taking when youre playing the recording back?
    3. When exporting or printing, does it print in one continious page or can noteability break up your notes into 11.5 inches so it can fit comfortably on a4 paper? I hate that one note exports all my notes as a huge pdf with no way to pagebreak so I was hoping noteability would.

    Thanks iPals

Looking for a handwriting keyboard app

    Posted: 06 Apr 2018 07:50 PM PDT

There used to be a great app called myscript stylus that would allow you to hand write and convert to text for any input field. Seems like the app isn't available in the us App Store anymore. Looks like myscript is abandoning the "stylus" app in favor of a general note taking app.

I found another called Mazec which seems good and claims it's using myscript technology but $10 is steep considering there's no trial.

I would think more people using the Apple Pencil and the iPad Pro would be interested in a keyboard like this. Is there some great app for this I haven't found yet?

    Blurry iPad screen

    Posted: 06 Apr 2018 06:43 PM PDT

I've got an iPad mini 2 that's less than 3 years old on the current iOS. For some months(?) it's been going blurry once in a while. Recently, it's been every day.

It gets horizontal lines that smear everything across the screen. I've done hard and soft resets, but even that has stopped working.

    Please help.

    iPad Pro 9.7 keyboard case

    Posted: 06 Apr 2018 06:06 PM PDT

I have an iPad Pro as the title says. I also have the Apple Smart Keyboard. I really like the smart keyboard except for one thing. I have sensory issues when touching certain materials, and the material that Apple has decided to use for the keys drives me nuts. Any way does anyone know of a keyboard case for the iPad Pro that is more or less similar to the Apple Smart Keyboard? Basically something slim, works with the smart connector, and can be laid flat for taking notes with the pencil.

How good are the Smart Covers these days?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2018 06:00 PM PDT

I got an iPad Pro 10.5 (so much for waiting until WWDC!) and managed to forget buying the Smart Cover to prop it up while using it. I have some concerns about buying one though based on my past experiences

I had the iPad 3 with a black leather smart cover and the edges would bind up where it attaches to and eventually it started peeling a bit in the corners. I've also had the iPad mini 2 with a "regular" (polyurethane?) smart cover, and it has held up well though it gets a bit dirty.

I am just curious how good the quality is of the leather covers these days? I would prefer to get a leather one since it plays a bit nicer with the Apple leather sleeve (which I did remember to buy).

iPad Air vs Amazon Fire 10 HD?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2018 03:26 PM PDT

Hey guys - I currently have the new 2017 Amazon Fire 10 HD, but have the opportunity to get a refurbished iPad Air 32gb at a reasonable price. I mostly will use it for general web browsing, email and watching videos. I use the cloud for mostly everything so the 32gb version will be fine. I am part of an Apple family - so I like keeping things consistent. I have noticed the Fire tablet doesn't have great wifi connectivity and is somewhat clunky compared to my past iPad use. Anyway - I know this is an iPad forum, but would welcome any comments, feedback and/or recommendations!

    Sharing content to WzPad app

    Posted: 06 Apr 2018 02:49 PM PDT

Hey guys, I am a new user of the new 2018 iPad and I am using the app "WzPad Pro". It is the same as WhatsApp web, just wrapped into an iOS app. The only feature that i am missing is sharing some content from another app to some of my WhatsApp contacts. Is that somehow possible? For example when I press share on a reddit link it lists all possible kinds of apps but not this one. I have to say, I really like this new tablet but the whole concept around sharing information is just a nightmare. Thanks

    Colour regrets?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2018 07:00 PM PDT

Does anybody regret their choice of iPad colour? (or any device) And why?

The pink iPad Pro is calling to me, but I hesitate. Pink is one of my favourite colours in clothes etc., It's not a masculinity concern. You see, I like the new gold/pink/copper better, because it's a really nice blend of the rose-gold and gold-gold. It would be mildly irritating if I did spring for it now, only for another Pro in the preferred colour to be released soon.

The colour of your device is permanent! I want the right one.
