After some troubleshooting, I found that the drivers don't currently work with 10.13.4. Is there any easy way to roll the OS back to 10.13.3? I don't have a time machine backup with that version, as I waited to go to High Sierra for a little while causing me to jump from 12 to 13.4. MacBook Pro Early 2013 [link] [comments]  |

Posted: 04 Apr 2018 07:07 PM PDT My iphone 6s fell in the toilet and had trouble charging for a bit and now basically won't charge at all/if I keep it plugged in it'll maintain the percentage that it's currently at but won't let it charge any further. It's at 1% now and I want to do one final backup on icloud before it dies completely. I made an insurance claim and a new iphone should be delivered tomorrow. I don't know if my current phone will die in the middle of backing it up however because it takes more power to use wifi rather than keeping it just on airplane mode like i've been doing. I'm afraid that if I do a final backup, that it'll die before it's finished and idk if that will complicate things even more if that happens? Will that somehow corrupt my previous data? I have 50 gb of space total and 30 gb that are currently being used in the cloud, anyway I'm really not sure if I should attempt to back it up again or not so if there's anyone that could give their opinion that would help a lot! The bar is 90% complete, but then it just stops downloading. It was stuck like that for a day, so I went into the music app to cancel the download and try redownloading it. The same thing has happened! I just want to listen to my new, relaxing music before I go to sleep! | Question about privacy, when using a school MacBook at home: Posted: 04 Apr 2018 02:46 PM PDT Our school requires all students to purchase a MacBook Air for classes. We pay for the laptop, but the school distributes them, preloaded with the software and stuff necessary for our courses, including a VPN so that we can login to the school network from home. The school also has Apple trained technicians to take care of any necessary maintenance in-house, without the need to got to the Apple Store. Our IT guy implored us not to look at porn on our laptops, but also said that if we do happen to browse such sites, definitely make sure that you are not logged in to the school network via the VPN. I decided I would not be that guy who accidentally streamed porn on the school network and resolved to only watch porn on my iPad, never on my laptop. Well, that didn't last. Within a week I activated a guest account, which I only use for porn and always with chrome's incognito mode. A few months and thousands of hours of porn later and I've yet to receive any notification that my school is aware of my porn browsing. But today I was looking at the "Users and Groups" system preferences and I noticed that my MacBook has two admin accounts. One is mine and the other is registered by the school. I thought this was interesting, but probably just for maintenance purposes. Then I noticed, under "Login Options", something called "Network Account Server" with a green dot next to the name of my school's network. I clicked "edit" to get more info and it showed the same thing with an "active directory domain" subheading below my school's network. All of these things combined, the school admin and the "active" school network, have me a little freaked out. I'm starting to think that maybe my private browsing isn't so private after all. So my question is: Can my school somehow see which websites I visit, at home, on my guest account, with incognito running, and my school VPN definitely disconnected? And furthermore, would my browsing history be accessible if I brought my MacBook in for maintenance? Just to add, there's nothing technically illegal or sinister about the porn I watch (though I have noped out of some sketchy looking linked sites), but I have a healthy sexual appetite, that spans a broad range of kinks and fetishes, and I'd rather not share this with anyone other than my girlfriend. | I want to pin my windows in place so they don't move... Posted: 04 Apr 2018 03:57 PM PDT I have been using a third-party application called SizeUp for years for window management. It allows me to assign a window to a quarter of the screen using key commands. However, I find that my one issue with this and other apps like it are that once I assign a window to a partition, I am very likely to accidentally move that window and have to repeat the key command for assigning it back to its partition. It's fractions of a second, but over time it becomes annoying. I would love the ability to pin a window in place after assigning it so that it doesn't move until I unpin it. There are features out there that allow me to pin a window on top of all other windows, but I don't want that. I just want them to stay in place until told not to. I have scoured the internet looking for a solution and even emailed the developer of SizeUp about it and I'm still coming up empty-handed. | iMac 27 inch mid 2011 crashing Posted: 04 Apr 2018 10:43 AM PDT Hi All, I have a an iMac 27 inch mid 2011 that has worked perfectly until the other day. It randomly rebooted and I got a grey screen with green vertical lines like below After a few on/off attempts is started up again so I backed everything up. Then it died completely. I was sometime able to boot to the recovery partition and sometimes got the screen again. I was able to boot of a USB harddrive that has Mac OSX installed and it seemed to work fine and I ran a full Apple diagnostics that returned no issues. After a weekend of work I managed to reinstall the entire OS and copy everything back over again. It worked for a few days then today it happened again, this time it recovered pretty quick and is working again. Does anyone know what could be causing this? I'm used to trouble shooting PC's but I'm struggling to find anything in the console logs that suggests what the issue is. Any help is greatly appreciated. [link] [comments]  |
| Problem entering recovery mode (2008 imac) Posted: 04 Apr 2018 03:23 PM PDT I have a 2008 imac running el capitan, and I'm trying to boot into recovery mode to restore the computer (and then reinstall osx). When I try to boot into recovery mode (cmd-R), it just boots right into osx. I can get into safe boot mode, so it's not a keyboard problem. I installed a version of rEFInd (boot manager) for an ubuntu partition, but I've deleted that. In disk utility, the three partitions that show up on the disk are osx, osx recovery, and bootcamp (windows). The ubuntu partitions don't show up on the list, though they are there. So I guess in summary, I need to boot into recovery mode to remove all partitions (since I can't do that with regular disk utility) and erase everything. Are there any workarounds to get into recovery mode? [link] [comments]  |
| Cannot get a proper clean install of OSX, keep trying to install a profile. Posted: 04 Apr 2018 03:14 PM PDT Recently my office has upgraded all our macbooks to newer versions and we were able to purchase the older ones. I wanted to clean install Sierra so I created a USB on the new one and using the boot tool i erased the older Macbooks HD and reinstalled Sierra. We have a tiny IT department and they seemed unsure but they said this is all that I'd have to do. After getting everything set up a notification has popped up to say we can connect and set up the computer via the work profile (which you can skip). I've done the command profile -P and its not showing any profiles anywhere, I'm not sure where this notification is coming from. Call me a bit paranoid but I'd like to remove all this before doing any personal stuff on the macbook. Hopefully someone can help me here. How can this macbook still be connected to anything related to work if its gone through a clean install? Do i need to get my office to do something else, or is just skipping the profile install enough? [link] [comments]  |

Please Help my mac is unusable at this point!!!! I tried A. 'fake reinstalling macos' (without deleting files) B. First Aid w/ disk utility C. Keyboard preference 'Dictatation' is turned on and the internal mic icon shows activity from noise or speech. I am using the iMac internal mic on High Sierra. I tried turning dictation on/off. Since yesterday my trackpad has been acting weird -- cannot click on certain files on my desktop, or even certain areas of application windows. Sometimes, repeatedly clicking will suddenly make the clicks register. Other times I can click a few other places, and then come back to my original target, and it works. What's going on here? | Posted: 04 Apr 2018 11:06 AM PDT After a full charge overnight my phone (5S on iOS 9) turned off after a few minutes, only to display battery&cable screen, as if there was no charge, so i charged again, since then, any attempt at booting the phone would end up at about a minute of apple logo, then either red or divided purple screen restarting the process. I spent past 2 days going to all apple-certified repair shops in town, only to either hear "there is nothing we can do with this problem" or hearing ridiculous prices (50-200$) for a "diagnosis" with a notice that it takes 2 days and clearing user data is unavoidable. Sadly my backup was done over the cable, about the month ago, since then I made a lot of things on this phone. So if there is no hope of using it anymore, I want at least to be able to backup this from iTunes. [link] [comments]  |
| Windows iTunes won't open after latest update Posted: 04 Apr 2018 07:50 AM PDT Got this weird bug after the latest iTunes update, when occasionally upon connecting the Airpods the audio will stop coming from iTunes, and when I close and try to reopen it all it will do is spawn new processes in the Task Manager without actually opening. To reopen it I have to reboot the computer. That's pretty annoying, especially if I have several other programs open. OS: Windows 10 Anyone else on Windows having the same issue? | Movie on Dutch iTunes store vanished. Posted: 04 Apr 2018 08:57 AM PDT Hey, I don't know where else to write this so I'm sorry if this is the wrong place. I pre-ordered Star Wars: The Last Jedi on iTunes (Dutch store) a few days ago. According to iTunes it was supposed to be released today, but when I checked this morning I could not find the movie at all. It vanished from the store. I can still find the page on google however. When I click on the link it redirects me to the iTunes app, loads for a second and then shows an "Item Not Available" message and asks me if I want to change stores (To the U.S. one in my case). The movie is available on the U.S. store (already released) and the German store (will release on 13th of April), so this seems to be a Dutch problem only. Since the movie vanished from the Dutch iTunes store without a word, I'd like to cancel my pre-order and get the digital release someplace else. I already messaged support about this issue but while I'm waiting for an answer I wanted to find out more information about this. Has something similar happened before? Why hasn't there been any word from iTunes about it? And does anybody have an idea what will happen to my pre-order? [link] [comments]  |
