| iCloud and Cloud Drive Help - Totally new to this! Posted: 08 Apr 2018 09:12 PM PDT I have a Macbook Pro, iPhone 6, and iPad mini. I just "set up" iCloud. I also just moved and arranged all of my photos from folders in the actual Mac OS to the Photos app. I am pretty tech savvy, but this is so confusing. I paid for the 50gb iCloud storage, btw. Basically, I want to be able to have all my devices synch seamlessly. This is what I believe iCloud/drive is suppose to accomplish, no? As of right now I have photos from 2008-now (about 10k photos) in Photos on my laptop. How do I get those to appear on my iPhone and iPad? Also, what about pages and other applications? In the past I have only had the messaging, FaceTime, and contacts synched. It is to my understanding that iCloud should allow you to take a photo with your phone and have it already appear on photos in the laptop? I strive to keep things organized but it seems like my retro ways of doing things worked better. I know I need to get the hang of things, but I am lost. Any help is appreciated. | Any tips for installing an airport card on a Mac Pro? Posted: 08 Apr 2018 06:14 PM PDT Everything else is alright, but the antenna cables are true, real evil. It would trick me into thinking I got it by clicking in, then the moment I take my finger off or move it even slightly, it just falls off. No matter what position I put the computer in, no matter the angle I try to connect it from, nothing happens. I noticed that on Youtube tutorials, for them the cables snap right in first try (one even said "easy peasy") and websites don't even mention them. So what are they doing that I'm not? My mavericks drive has all my music software and plugins, and most of them are not compatible since they are older...so obviously I'm wondering if upgrading to high sierra on the external forces every drive to apfs! If upgrading involves an EFI or other kind of firmware update, will my macbook still be able to boot into mavericks without issues? [link] [comments]  |
| Have i fried my macbook pro charger port? Posted: 08 Apr 2018 05:55 PM PDT I was charging my macbook pro from 2015 with my girlfriends charger for her mac, when the head of the charger burnt me. So i take it out and find one of the sockets burnt on my macbook, and the pins on the mag"safe" charger completely black :( I purchased it refurbished around 7 months ago and it is still under warranty. It is still completely working though and charging fine. Does this look like serious damage, or would apple classify it as "cosmetic". Thank you so much for any help! [link] [comments]  |

It used to be that the screen would dim when you put the laptop to sleep. Now, with the latest update, it just shuts off. Anyone else having this issue? Is there a way of fixing it? | Posted: 08 Apr 2018 08:30 PM PDT So I've noticed (about a year ago) that the GPS on my iPhone 6 doesn't work. I use google maps primarily but I have the same issue with Apple maps. When using either application, the GPS does not follow and will remain where the route started. I've tried googling it and I noticed other 6 users have the same issue. | Two Problems! (macOS Sierra Laptop) Posted: 08 Apr 2018 08:23 PM PDT No Mac experience (tons of windows experience though, so not tech illiterate). Mother asked me for help with her Mac laptop. Now I'm asking you for help haha.
Problems:
Extra Info: Max age of laptop is around 3 yrs. 8gb of RAM. Used a decent amount, but nowhere near power user levels, just casual use. She has recently had to clean out her RAM slots in the laptop (VERY proud of her for actually googling/youtubing her problem and fixing it herself. She's amazing!). I do not think this is an issue anymore as cleaning up the slots seems to have fixed all the issues associated with it.
I am a total windows guy, but recently my mother has asked for help with her Mac Sierra laptop. Since I have so little experience with Macs, I would rather not look up all the info needed to diagnose her problems. I'm also lazy lol. [link] [comments]  |

| Posted: 08 Apr 2018 01:03 PM PDT i was helping my uncle out with various tech issues and he hits me with the issue of voice memo audio not coming through his bluetooth speaker. He says he used to do this no problem, but recently it has become a problem. He records artists and wants to replay the live audio on his speaker to learn how to play it too. We connect to the bluetooth speaker and play music no problem. I connect to my phone and thinking maybe it's just his phone for whatever reason and I experience the same thing. I was able to pull up the audio playback screen and saw the speaker, but it wouldn't play through it and went back to the phone. We also immediately went to the Music app and played through the bluetooth speaker no problem, which means this is only the voice memos app. I've researched online and saw a couple people having this issue, but it wasn't widespread or any fixes aside from sending it to google drive. If this is a widespread issue, it astounds me that you can't play voice memos through a bluetooth speaker. Does any have this issue? Is it based on phone or bluetooth speaker? | Macbook pro sparked then turned black Posted: 08 Apr 2018 12:25 PM PDT Last night I was setting up my computer to watch a movie and I had my speaker connected via a headphone cable. The speaker indicated that it was low on power and that I should charge it. I then plugged the speaker into the wall, while it was still connected to my laptop. Imediatly there was a spark that came from the headphone jack area on my laptop and there was a small amount of smoke that accompanied it. Before this, the computer was running really well and I had never encountered a problem before. I use this laptop every day for work and don't know if I could afford a new one right now. Is there anything that I can do to try and fix it? I have an appointment at the apple store next week. | Question: How to Use Photos Without iCloud? On Mac and iPhone Posted: 08 Apr 2018 11:01 AM PDT I recently moved all my photos from their folders in my mac os to the photos software/app on the mac. I am very late in doing so due to the fact that I was weary of iCloud. I like how easy it is to remove photos from my phone and put them on photos, freeing up phone space. I don't mind plugging it in every few months to do so. Also, the smart albums are genius. My question is: How can I continue using the photos app and synching my phone like this without using iCloud? Is it possible? I don't want my photos to EVER be uploaded anywhere but on the computer directly. NO online transferring, storage, etc. Also, any recommendations on how to backup photos in the app without using iCloud? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]  |

| Posted: 08 Apr 2018 05:33 AM PDT My current, now completely broken, iPhone 5s has a screen that does not work at all. Before that, though, I was having a lot of problems with it too... the camera wouldn't focus, there was a "pink tinted square" covering most of the screen, it had severe response lag... just a whole plethora of things. Anyways, I'm getting the iPhone SE soon to replace it. It should be here in a few days, but I'm wondering, when I get it, should I not update the backup for the 5s? I'm just worried it will "carry over" any of these problems I had with it before. The only thing I want to keep is some app history data, but I don't know if I can, been trying all morning to use my iPhone without using the screen. EDIT: Well, nevermind, fml, I can't even back it up. I tried installing the new update from iTunes, hoping maybe that would fix it, but nope, can't even get past the "Your phone has been updated" screen. So on iTunes I can't even hit the backup button, because it says I have not completed the set up. So, scratch that. Instead, is there a way I can use my phone without using the screen at all, or at least back up that one app? [link] [comments]  |
| Legacy Upgrade Issue - MacBook 1.1(2006) won't upgrade from 10.4 to 10.6 Posted: 08 Apr 2018 02:11 PM PDT Hi - New poster, I have checked the FAQ's but if there is a legacy mac group that this should go to please let me know. I have inherited a 2006 13" 1.83GhZ Intel Core Duo Macbook with 10.4 already installed. I thought that one of my kids could use it for homework etc. After some initial investigation, I surmised that I should be able to take the machine to Snow Leopard 10.6 (Thank you LowEndMac) which would at least give my kids a usable browser. I upgraded the RAM to 2Gb and tried to upgrade straight from 10.4>10.6 using an original 10.6 install disk I had. The install was unsuccessful, looking at the log file the machine had trouble recognizing the mkpg files. Fair enough I thought, it could be those files types only arrived in 10.5. So, I also had a 10.5 Leopard original boot disk, I thought I'd upgrade to 10.5 and then 10.6. When I tried using upgrade using the 10.5 install disc I get an odd message 'This machine cannot be upgraded to OSX'. That's strange, it already is on OSX 10.4, it feels that there's an initial validation that its failing for 10.5 that I didn't get with my 10.6 install. I have removed all drives and tried one after the other without getting any farther. I dont know how to try and reinstall the operating system I am not sure where my original cd is, too many moves ago. Can I download it somehow? Posted: 08 Apr 2018 12:56 PM PDT it started a few days ago when i could not access a shopping website on my ipad, a grey page appeared with "sync" "zero-data" and a file icon, some other sites wont allow me to post, including 4chan, when i clicked on existing comments they all get a strike through as though they had been deleted, including all new threads.. I could however access sites normally on my phone. The only thing i think might have caused this was id just downloaded an app from channel 4, i since deleted it and updated my ipad, but the issues have not stopped. Today i noticed in the drop down search bar in google, there were searches id never made. i deleted my ipad and after rebooting it I then i saw a youtube link in my safari history, the only item there, when there should be nothing. its a video ive never watched and when i clicked on it it went through to a deleted video and the title also vanished. then i noticed on my iphone note pad, there are now strange boxes embedded within some of my notes. some boxes are empty and other have characters in them. i can click on all these boxes and a loading page appears but nothing happens. so now ive deleted my notes too, changed my icloud password and still both devises are buggy. WTF i've never had issues like this before and im also having problems even posting on the official apple community forums. HELP [link] [comments]  |
| iCloud photo storage doesn’t match my iPhone photo storage Posted: 08 Apr 2018 08:51 AM PDT Need some help - my iPhone 7+ has been giving me fits lately, the touchscreen has been extremely unresponsive, appears to be a software issue, Apple recommended a hard reset. I've never used iCloud before but just purchased it in anticipation of wiping my phone and starting anew. I backed up overnight and it seemed to work properly but when I compare my photo storage on my iPhone (20.31 GB) to that on iCloud (10.5 GB) there is a huge disconnect. | Is there a way to make Safari open the desktop site by default? Posted: 08 Apr 2018 12:11 PM PDT iPhone 5s running iOS 10.3.3 If you are unfamiliar Safari will automatically go to the mobile website if one is available at the address you entered. But, if you hold down the refresh symbol in the address bar it will ask you if you want to "Request Desktop Site." Is there a way to bypass the mobile web and always go direct to the desktop site without needing to switch every time? My main problem is with Reddit. Safari had already been going direct to desktop version up until a few weeks ago. Now whenever I go to Reddit it will only go to the mobile website and then I have to request the desktop version. But even then, every time I click on a link it will load to the mobile version again. I know a lot of people prefer the mobile version or even the app but I don't like either. I prefer the full desktop website. Any fix is much appreciated. Thank you. [link] [comments]  |
