    Amazing Apple Watch Story

    Posted: 09 Apr 2018 07:04 AM PDT

My wife got a Series 3 watch a few months ago, and over that time, she's been literally and figuratively very attached to it.

Fast forward to yesterday, when we went to the community pool. After playing in the water with kids for about an hour, we left. That night, she realized her watch wasn't in her bag, where she thought she put it. She was worried, but thought it would turn up in the morning. Exhausted, she went to bed. The next morning, she still couldn't find it, and couldn't remember whether she was wearing it in the pool. She was worried she left it there.

So I went up to the pool, and looked at the water. And there it was: a 38mm Rose Gold Apple Watch, lying on the pool's floor. I jumped in and got it, thinking there was no way it could have survived almost 12 hours submerged in four feet of water. In my car, I pressed the power button, and boom: the Apple logo came on. But then it lingered longer than usual, and I thought it may not actually be working. But then, about two minuted later, the apps showed up and it launched. And it's been working as normal since. Amazing!

Bank cancelled payment for a MacBook already in transit

    Posted: 09 Apr 2018 02:40 PM PDT

It's really silly, I ordered a laptop on Sunday 1st of April on the Apple store, before payment it said it would be delivered between the 17-19th of April to the UK. So I thought no biggy, maybe it's because of the configuration. The order went through but I never saw the online bank confirmation you usually see (type your secret code,etc..) Anyways the item status had been 'preparing the item for dispatching' until today when it changed to 'Dispatched', checked the order number on UPS and its in transit. I did however check my bank account and saw that basically it hadn't gone through because I had reached my March limit.

So my question is : Do Apple usually re-try to take the payment after few days? Should I contact them? Has anyone ever experienced something similar?

I know I'm not getting a free laptop out of this and I'd rather not have the order cancelled on me and have to wait another 17 days..

Edit : It seems some might have misunderstood what I meant by 'March limit' and offered financial advice. My Bank puts a monthly spending cap to avoid fraudulent behaviour on customers account to protect them. I still had funds on my account but not realised this cap had been reached for March. I also ordered on Easter Sunday 1st of April so I guess the Bank cap hadn't been reset.

PSA: Tapping the track pad on Apple TV twice shows you what time the video will end.

    Posted: 09 Apr 2018 07:50 AM PDT

When watching video content on the Apple TV, tap (don't click) the track pad on the Siri remote.

The first time the the scrubber will appear and show you how much time is left on a video (on the right side of the scrubber). Tap the track pad again and the right side of the scrubber will show you what time the video will end.

What's the health on your iPhone battery?

    Posted: 09 Apr 2018 06:06 PM PDT

So I bought my iPhone SE more than a year ago and in one of the most recent updated we can now see the battery health.

What surprised me is that despite using it for more than a year, the battery health is at 97%. I was expecting 85-ish.

How old is your phone and what's the battery health percentage?

Pro-tip: On macOS, drag after the second click on a double click to select text by words.

Similarly, drag after the third click on a triple click to select text by paragraphs. Once you learn these shortcuts, you'll be using them everywhere.

    Dedicated Number Row?

    Posted: 09 Apr 2018 11:16 PM PDT

After 10 years of Android, I finally decided to 'make the switch'. Though as a new user to the platform, I realized I am wondering if there is a way to enable a 'number row' to the on-screen keyboard, or is this something that many users just look for and hope in a future update /or I am just being a nitpicky nerd and not adjusting?

    edit: spelling

IAP should be part of Family Sharing

    Posted: 09 Apr 2018 05:28 AM PDT

The direction apps and games are heading I feel like this is a must. Games and apps are pretty much demos at this point with IAP to unlock the full experience. This defeats the whole point of Family Sharing in my opinion.

Any good app for creating floor plans?

    Posted: 09 Apr 2018 01:12 PM PDT

My mother years ago liked to create floor plans as a hobby, last day I bought her the new iPad, is there any good app for creating floor plans? She tested Home Design 3D but she says that is a little bit complicated to use. She has an Apple Pencil too if it's relevant to know.

Apple ID hacked, anything else I should do?

    Posted: 10 Apr 2018 12:12 AM PDT

I received an email this morning from Apple saying a purchase had been made on an old Apple ID that I don't use anymore. It said if I did not make the purchase, I should change my password as soon as possible. So, I did. I went into the account, changed my password, and I didn't hear anything about it again for the rest of the day.

About 15 hours later, I got 4 emails showing all the purchases that the hacker had made - amounting to almost $400. I went to report them, and I was redirected to chat with Apple Support. They asked for all the info about the purchases, and clarified that I had not purchased them. They also asked me to check the payment method on my account, and weirdly enough all that was there was an expired credit card?? The person on Apple Support told me that the purchases had been made from a different card, not the one that was on file.

After that, Apple Support disabled my account. Somehow made it so whatever the hacker was paying with, they would not be able to purchase anything through the App Store with that method again. And they set me up with a phone call tomorrow afternoon with Apple Support. I went ahead and changed the password on my email account as well, just in case.

Just wondering if I've covered all my bases, or if there is anything else I should do? I don't see the charges in my PayPal, credit card or bank account - but it is still worrying to me.

Suggestion: Bring back a Glances-type function to the Apple Watch.

    Posted: 09 Apr 2018 08:09 AM PDT

My biggest pet peeve of Apple Watch is that it is difficult to access "Now Playing" unless you have the complication on your current watch face, or on another face that you can swipe to. The problem is, IMO, there's 2 different ways to change watch faces: (1) just swipe left or right, or (2) force touch, then swipe left or right. Why do we need 2 ways to change watch faces? Why not give one of these gestures a different function, or maybe even make it customizable?

I personally would prefer keeping Force Touch to change watch faces, since I only change my watch face maybe 1-2 times a day. Force-Touching to change the face is not as fluid and convenient as a simple swipe, but it's still very easy and quick to change faces this way.

This would leave the swipe gesture open to other functions. Swipe Left could be permanently reserved for "Now Playing" or Workouts, or possibly a combination of the two (much like the current Workout app on Apple Watch). Swipe Right could then be a customizable gesture, giving quick access to whatever app you choose.

This would give so much more functionality to the Apple Watch IMO. You'd have your main watch face, with X number of complications, Swipe Left to workout/control music, and Swipe Right for immediate access to another app. If you want to change faces, just Force Touch, then swipe.

For example, this could be my set up:

    • Modular face - Time, Date, Activity rings, Weather (temp + conditions), Heart Rate (Cardiogram), Messages

    • Swipe Left - Now Playing controls/Music

    • Swipe Right - Mail

    • Double tap side button - Apple Pay

    • Hold crown - Siri

That's a lot of information and functionality on your wrist that is accessible at a glance or with 1 gesture/input.

    Thanks for reading!

Hey Siri Working on Low Power Mode

    Posted: 09 Apr 2018 05:33 PM PDT

I'm not sure if this is a glitch or something but after updating my iPhone X to 11.3 my Hey Siri has been working on Low Power mode even thought it specifically says Hey Siri will be disabled with Low Power mode on? It's kind of annoying me because I'll lift up my watch and say Hey Siri for my watch and then both my phone's and watch's Siri will trigger and they both hear the thing and the watch thinks the phone is doing it and the phone thinks the watch is doing it and then they both just turn off.... any solutions or has this been happening to anyone else?

I'm hoping for a macOS method so I can easily batch convert. I appreciate the recommendations.

AirPods won’t work for phone calls - Apple Watch the cause?

    Posted: 09 Apr 2018 03:26 PM PDT

I apologize if this is the wrong sub for this... I tried to google but the results are all over the place and I can't see anyone else discussing this exact problem.

I have an iPhone X, AirPods, and an Apple Watch.

I've had my AirPods since launch and my X for a couple of months. They've been working great together, no real issues.

I just picked up my watch a week ago and I've noticed that my AirPods aren't working properly a lot of the time now. I'll pull my AirPods out of the case and hear the sound that they've connected to my phone, and the headphone symbol shows up in the top right of the phone... but if i make a call there's silence. I tried putting the AirPods back in/out of the case and nothing fixes it. However if I put my watch on airplane mode the problem is immediately fixed. I feel like my AirPods are connecting to my watch and taking priority over connecting to my phone?

I've deleted/re-added the AirPods, my iPhone is updated to the latest OS, as is my watch....

Any suggestions? It's really annoying to have to toggle the watch to airplane mode in order to make a call.
