Used a link to link my iPhone backup to an external drive. Didn't work. How to reverse? Posted: 18 Feb 2018 12:32 AM PST Hey, I used this link and followed the instructions with the terminal command ln -s /Volumes/ExternalHD/iTunesBackup/Backup/ ~/Library/Application\ Support/MobileSync/Backup at the end to change my backup to an external drive. For some reason, iTunes won't accept it and says the directory is corrupt or something. (I renamed them to my files, yes) Anyway, I want to reverse the change back to default. How do I do this in the terminal? I tried switch the first part of the command and the second one around, but it's just says the /user/volumes/externalHD directory can't be found. How do I reset to the default? Thank you! P.S: yes, I'm stupid for messing with the terminal without understanding it. Please help. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Feb 2018 02:53 AM PST I have a Macbook Pro 13" 2013 and plan to buy a new laptop this year. To be honest, there are a lot of things putting me off from buying another Macbook, but I won't go into detail - I guess many of you can understand. The question is: is there an alternative? I'm a developer, writing a lot of Python code. I need a nice terminal with SSH. I also do some photography, I mostly use Lightroom, but I want to move away from that too because of the new subscription model. I use Photoshop and InDesign from time to time. A lot of Latex. And sometimes I play some games. Dell sells their XPS 13 with Linux, which I've been using mainly before my switch to Apple in 2010. I'd be happy as a developer, but I can't use Lightroom, Photoshop, InDesign. Especially Lightroom only has viable alternatives on Windows for me. Windows seems to have made a lot of progress. Tbh I've never used Windows extensively, except for the time in highschool that I took care of the PC pools. They have a working Linux subsystem that I could run pretty much any command line tools on. No idea if it is convenient though. I'm afraid of Windows. I'm a *nix lover, who knows how to set an IP with ifconfig, rather uses vi to quickly change something while in the terminal instead of navigating there with a graphical editor and always thought the white-on-black ugly-font Windows command line was unusable. I know asking this in an Apple subreddit is weird, but maybe you have some thoughts? [link] [comments] |
