iPhone 8 Battery life is amazing! Totally insane. Posted: 21 Feb 2018 04:21 AM PST Just wanted to let all know that I have both an iPhone 8 (1821 mAh) and an OnePlus 5T (3300 mAh). And the iPhone just destroys the battery life if the OnePlus. I have 24% battery left on my iPhone now with just over 6,5h of usage. And that is under very heavy usage as I got it yesterday. My OnePlus goes to around 7,5h normal usage and with battery sizes in mind the iPhone is truly amazing! [link] [comments]

Will swipe ever come to Apple keyboard? Posted: 21 Feb 2018 05:42 AM PST The only reason I use 3rd party kb is for swipe. It's not an issue other than when Gboard is slow to load and suddenly Apple's pops up and I can't swipe. On my work Android phone it's so much better being built-in. Why is Apple so behind? Got my new battery, it didn't help Posted: 21 Feb 2018 09:17 AM PST I have an iPhone 6 plus, and got in the queue to get a new battery because my phone has gotten really slow switching between apps. When I called support initially, they ran a diagnostic and said my battery was fine. I didn't quite believe them so I decided to get a battery anyway. The Apple store got the replacement battery in stock pretty quickly, and after I dropped the phone off, the replacement only took a couple hours. But sadly, the performance of my phone is no better. Switching between apps is still slow, and apps often completely reload when switching, as if there is insufficient memory to keep them live in the background. There also doesn't seem to be any change in charge holding time. Your results may vary, but mine weren't that great. [link] [comments]
Find my iPhone should add a take picture option Posted: 20 Feb 2018 09:33 AM PST Would be nice to be able to see where your phone is. The option should take a front/back picture, and send it back. Also maybe an option for audio / video (ala facetime) as well. For those who say it's a privacy issue, you can install other apps which do it if you didn't lose it anyhow (and apple should add a toggle to disallow this on the device itself, just like location sharing)... YSK: VLC 3.0 on iOS plays damn near fucking everything. Posted: 20 Feb 2018 07:53 PM PST I've spent the last hour or so throwing everything I can at VLC 3.0 on iOS. It has VideoToolBox integration, so it will accelerate any video that the iOS device's GPU can handle. It also has an SMB client, which makes testing any videos I have access to pretty trivial. So far, the only problem I've had is with buffering while streaming over SMB, but that could be my router. Tested so far on A9 (iPad Pro 2015) and A11 (iPhone X):
All played perfectly, including H.264 with 10-bit color (usually marked as "Hi10p"). Given that my GTX 1080 can't accelerate this video, that's pretty impressive. H.265 with HDR tone-mapped gracefully; The intro to Westworld looked super overexposed on VLC 3.0 for Windows with bright white spots in various places. Those same spots were resolvable on my iPhone X and iPad, though I don't understand HDR well enough to gauge whether the X is displaying it properly. This is a gamechanger for me. It was annoying back in the day to have to choose between:
I haven't tested battery consumption yet, but it's probably dramatically better than VLC was in the past where everything was being played entirely in software. Basically, for anyone who's used to the old standby of converting everything to Quicktime and going through the "Home Movies" section of the TV app, there's now a 100% viable alternative in VLC 3.0! You don't even need to transfer anything with iTunes anymore, as VLC has its own Wi-Fi transfer option. (and if you prefer iTunes transfer speeds over USB, you can still do that via transferring to an app) [link] [comments]

iOS 11 Photos album out of order? Posted: 21 Feb 2018 08:21 AM PST Ever since I backed up with iCloud, my photos from like 2013-2015 have been moved to the 'recent' photos even though it dates back that far, so now around 30 photos are out of order. I am running iOS 11.1.2 on an 8 Plus. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? I have tried disabling iCloud Photo Library and everything, still no avail. [link] [comments]
Out-of-focus Burst Mode photos? Posted: 21 Feb 2018 09:04 AM PST I got a problem and Apple won't tell me if it's a iOS-wide problem or just a problem with my three iphones. They just want me to send it to to Apple for Hardware check. I don't think that it's a hardware problem with all 3 iPhones. Is anybody else having this problem? Photos in Burst mode with filter only become sharp when I zoom in or hit the edit button. I made a video: (it's not got to see because of the compression.) 1– Open Camera App 2– Set a Filter 3– take photos in burst-mode 4– open photos app and see if the photos are sharp and in focus. The photos are only out of focus in Burst-mode with filter. photo without filter = no problem photo with filter = no problem Burst mode without filter = no problem Burst mode with filter = out of focus Is this a iOS-wide problem or just my iPhones? Posted: 20 Feb 2018 04:37 PM PST So a little background: I got an iPhone 7 on launch date, and for several months I couldn't decide which wireless headphones I should get, so I stuck to the lightning EarPods for a couple months. I wanted some wireless headphones for a while, but I couldn't decide if I should get Beats X or AirPods. I narrowed it down to these two because they both had the W1 chip, which I obviously wanted to take advantage of. Eventually I decided to get the Beats for a couple reasons; I liked having controls on the wire, I thought they'd sound better, and I wasn't quite used to the look of AirPods yet. So I finally ordered them in July and have used them ever since. I liked them at first, but over time I started having some gripes. Beats X honestly sound terrible. They were good at blocking out background noise, but this proved to be more annoying than appreciated, and overall their sound quality is seriously lacking. I didn't even realize how bad they sounded until I picked up a pair of EarPods again. Over a couple months I started to get progressively more annoyed with the Beats X, and after seeing more and more AirPods on my campus, I eventually realized how jealous I was. I got the iPhone X on launch day and a new MacBook Pro a couple weeks after, and my Beats started feeling like the runt of the litter. So on Saturday I finally decided to buy myself some AirPods; a Valentine's Day gift to myself, if you will. I've been using them for maybe three hours now, and damn, I'm so glad I bought these. It's so seamless I can barely tell I have headphones in at all. They fit me really well, and don't stick out of my ears like alien antennas as they do on some people. Their sound quality is shockingly better than Beats X. Everything is so much more crisp with AirPods, and I feel like I hear so much more detail in music. Add in the ability to keep them charged simply by using the carrying case, and you have some damn good headphones. So in conclusion/TL;DR: If you're still debating on what pair of wireless headphones to pair with your iPhone, then let me make it simpler for you: the AirPods are a no-brainer. I'm so happy to finally have them and I'm a fool for trying out any other option. Do yourself a favor. Edit: After further review and discussion it seems my hype may have gotten a little out of hand, my bad. Beats X are great headphones, and while I may not be a fan of their sound, it's just about as good (if not better) than AirPods depending on preference. If you're an audiophile (unlike myself), you'll probably want to test both of them before making a decision. [link] [comments]
