    Advice From A Police Officer....

    Posted: 17 Feb 2018 07:51 AM PST

We have had a huge spike in mis-dialed 911 calls recently involving iPhones and apple watches. I'm talking every other call for service is a iPhone 911 mis-dial. I'm an Android user but I did a little digging and found that the calls may be related to the emergency/SOS feature of the side buttons. Please take the time to ensure you aren't accidently (unknowingly) calling 911 by unintentionally using this feature! Here's the article I read on the issue.... https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.imore.com/iphone-x-how-stop-accidentally-calling-911-emergency-sos-auto-call%3famp

    Apple Pay story time

    Posted: 16 Feb 2018 11:00 PM PST

My buddy's dad just passed away last night. He still wanted to play hockey tonight because his dad wouldn't want him to miss a game just because he was feeling down about anything, and also to get his mind off of it for a little bit. I usually drive us out but his family wanted to come so I rode out with them.

On our way home after the game, his girl and three daughters were asking to stop for some McDonald's. Due to the circumstances I insisted we stop and I'd pay because it's the least I could do in this situation. It took me several tries to convince him I knew I didn't need to but that I really wanted to.

Then guess what? I remember I left my keys and my wallet at home because I wasn't driving and wouldn't need them for anything at hockey. Great. Then I remember ApplePay on my phone. But I rarely ever use/used it and it had not been set up on my X. I still decided I'd at least try to see if anything was saved related to it and lo and behold when I opened the Wallet app, the card I had set up on my old iPhone was there and ready to go as long as I knew my security code (which I luckily did) and after entering that and getting an auto generated security text, I was all set to go in a matter of about 2 minutes.

I'm just so happy how seamless it was to set up so quickly and it allowed me to not have to feel like a total jerk for trying very hard to finally convince him to let me buy his family's food and then renege on the offer moments later... or even worse if we ordered and then I went to pull out my wallet and not realize it until then. Thanks Apple Pay!

Tl;dr: had to heavily convince my grieving buddy to let me buy his family's meal only to realize moments later that I didn't have my wallet on me and Apple Pay wasn't set up on my X but due to the seamless setup process I was able to deliver on my offer and not embarrass myself

Impressed after having lost my phone

    Posted: 17 Feb 2018 06:41 AM PST

I was a big dummy a couple of weeks ago, and didn't keep my inside jacket pocket zipped while out skiing. Long story short: I took my 6 out to snap some photos, put the phone back in my pocket, and bit it in some powder shortly after. It wasn't until the next run that I noticed my phone was missing. I had been off the main course when it happened, and the weather was getting bad, so there was really no way to find it.

Anyway, I got a refurbished 6s as a replacement, which just arrived today. After syncing everything, I noticed that the photos I had taken immediately before I lost the phone were included in the sync.

It seems that in its last act on earth, my trusty 6 had performed one last backup from underneath the snow. I don't know if the timing was just a coincidence, but consider me impressed nonetheless!

    IOS Update to fix Telugu

    Posted: 17 Feb 2018 03:24 AM PST

Are there any news about next intermediate iOS update correcting Telugu bag? I want to say that to wait 11.3 until spring is a ... Without fix nothing, even dfu restore doesn't help. Constant reboot. It's a shame, Apple, considering it is 4 or 5th glitch of that kind during last year

Deleted and reinstalled the default mail app on my iPhone 6+(updated). Now it won’t open. Just asks me which mail service I use. When I enter my Yahoo address/password, it won’t take me past that screen. (Can’t access my emails).

I have my address and password confirmed in settings.

New app developer, try my app?

    Hey guys,

I'm a comp sci student and developed an iOS app in my spare time- if you could try it and maybe give an opinion of what you think and how it could be improved, I'd appreciate it! :)

So IOS offloaded the Contacts app..

    Posted: 17 Feb 2018 02:32 AM PST

.. and it took me a while to work out that this was the problem. Surely that is one app that should always stay on the device. Anyone else had this?

Also - a lot of my icons have disappeared from the folder view, Seems like some strange things are going on

EDIT: reinstated the app, shut down and on restart all was right with the world. But all of this stopped Siri knowing who I was and appeared to make some other changes in iCloud. Probably a good idea to make sure you open the app itself once a month or so so this annoyance doesn't happen.

Is the Telugu symbol bug only affecting iOS 11.2.5 users?

    Posted: 17 Feb 2018 03:05 AM PST

I'm on iOS 11.2.2, and was on reddit, someone posted the symbol but my phone didn't crash.

I assume its only affecting iOS 11.2.5?

Info that displays when I call an iPhone

    Posted: 17 Feb 2018 08:26 AM PST

Hi all -- I'm an Android user (though I love my rmbp). I am a freelance designer who contracts with several firms. When I call my brother (iphone user), my name is displayed, but it also displays one of my clients as the company I work for. Where is this information pulled from? How can I change it? I'm not particularly concerned what my brother's phone says when I call him, but I am concerned what it says on my client's phones who may be using iphones. I know my brother did not edit my contact info to include this company. Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

[RANT] Regarding the latest chtulu bug on iOS

    Posted: 17 Feb 2018 03:40 AM PST

This is stupid I have to say. Not trying to find theese kind of bugs, but how you put it out there. The worst thing you can do after you become aware of a bug like this one, is use your YT channel and share it with the whole world, before apple fixes this. And this one is bad, not like the others where a respring would fix it. EverythingApple pro claiming to do these videos to make apple aware is just wrong. Ppl are stupid and when they come across something like this they become more stupid.

Why not share it directly with apple. They will put your name in the update changelog, and then you could explain what was the problem and still get credit for it.

Just going "Oh look I found this devestating bug, it's so serious guys, it fucks your iPhone, OMG I CAN'T belive how serious this is, here have it to fuck other ppls iPhones" is wrong.

    Just my 2 cents.

EDIT: I'm not saying EAP is a bad guy. Most of his vids are interesting. But this is not a good way to handle a bug like this. Not everyone is willing to update to iOS 11.3 beta, and in some cases the person who texted you those chars will not text you another mesaage to get it fixed (because ppl are mean). Not to mention the fact that ppl on iOS 10 are (for now) permanentely fucked if they get this, since usualy Apple stops updating old firmwares. But I bet they will this time, they kinda have to.

I received an incoming call....while my iPhone 6 was on airplane mode. Current OS. 20180217. What the heck?

    Posted: 17 Feb 2018 07:44 AM PST

Title sums it up quite well. I moved to putting my phones on airplane mode at night (I get a ton of email, work a basically permanently "on-call" job), also to give myself some "me" time and time with my partner (get enough daggon ScreenTime). I've been doing the airplane mode thing for a year or so. Anyway - this morning my Dad called, I picked up, we chatted for like a half hour, I hung up....and realized that my phone was STILL on airplane mode. Is this a known bug? Should I go to the Apple store so they can pull the logs to check it out or something?

Secondary question - does anyone know of a product that acts as kinda like a faraday cage for your phone? Something small like a bag. If the setting is buggy I'd rather have a simple solution without powering down the phone. TIA.

Tip to not brick your iPhone if someone sends "that" Telgu character to your iPhone.

    Posted: 17 Feb 2018 07:05 AM PST

Most of the time it crashes just the app but if the app tries to show it in notification during lock screen it may put your phone in boot loop and essentially brick the phone.

The only temporary fix i tested to be working without 11.3 beta update is to disable notification (not a great fix and apple should do something quickly) of that app.

This is totally unacceptable. The whole iOS is so fragile that a simple Telgu character sent by someone else over messages, whatsapp, Twitter etc can crash the whole phone and this is 3rd or 4th bug of this kind.

This might be helpful for those who are being spammed this character by nasty friends :)

Your battery may need to be serviced

    Posted: 17 Feb 2018 06:58 AM PST

I wasn't having any issues with the battery until I updated my iPhone 6 to 11.2.5. Yesterday when I clicked on battery it said your battery may need to be serviced. I rebooted my phone and it went away. Since I rebooted it my phone lasts longer before it shuts off. Could it just be the update or maybe one of the apps on my phone? Has anyone else had the same issue?. I've gone to the Apple Genius Bar in the past and they were rude to me and wasted my time so I'm trying to avoid going there. I bought a 10$ replacement battery and kit on eBay so my brother can help me replace it but now I'm scared that something will go wrong and I won't have a phone at all. My IPhone still works good when I hook it up to a charger cord.
