    iPad Mini 2 screen problem

What are the best looking apps for the iPad in terms of design and functionality?

    Anyone use the Paper app?

    Posted: 17 Feb 2018 10:30 AM PST

I've just been dipping back into this since the update, and it looks truly gorgeous.

I'm tempted to try it out as my main notebook/writing experience on iPad Pro, because it feels quite nice to use and the visuals are stunning.

The fountain pen tool is a bit disappointing though. Has anyone used it much? And if so, what are your thoughts?

Does the first gen 12.9" IPP still preform well?

    Posted: 17 Feb 2018 12:50 PM PST

Thinking about picking up a used first gen 12.9" IPP + keyboard and just wondering if anyone can comment on their performance with the most recent IOS and lif I should expect any kind of lag or feeling like its a bit bogged down. I'm mostly considering the first gen based on price. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

How do you organize your files for school/college?

    Posted: 17 Feb 2018 05:49 AM PST

I'm a student and I got my iPad about a week ago. Since I'm trying to go paperless for the most part I found that it's pretty hard to keep my files organized, especially since I'm still trying to find out which apps are best suited to what tasks. For example I'm currently doing most of my notes in Evernote since that app allows me to write things down, add images and draw freely whenever I need to (like when copying stuff from the blackboard). For exercises I use Word because it has more text formatting features. I'm still figuring out maths as it's pretty complicated to write down equations with either a keyboard or my finger. The best thing I could come up with is using MathPad to generate an image and then pasting that into Evernote for each equation that I need to write down. For other tasks I use the fitting MSOffice apps.

Anyways, since I only have the 32GB iPad 2017 I want to archive my documents in OneDrive. I found that using all those different apps, along with the occasional handwritten pages and worksheets that I need to scan my current file system of one folder per subject is likely to get cluttered throughout the year. How do you organize your files?

I'm looking forward to any advice you could give me.

    Strange iPad mini screen problem

    Posted: 17 Feb 2018 11:04 AM PST

I have an iPad Mini 2 (retina) with a weird, intermittent screen problem. I've been to the Apple Store and they just shrugged their shoulders, suggesting a full restore. (Edit: the restore didn't fix it.)

It's difficult to describe, so I finally managed to record the problem on video, here.

It actually took over 3 minutes of sleep/wake attempts to get the screen to display correctly but, once it's on, the display is rock solid... so long as the display doesn't turn off again (i.e. putting the iPad in sleep mode again).

It's very tempting to remove the screen and either reseat the connectors or replace it completely, but I have a bad feeling it might make no difference.

Has anyone seen this problem before?

Can I still downgrade from iOS 11?

    Posted: 17 Feb 2018 10:42 AM PST

My daughter unintentionally clicked the prompt to upgrade to iOS 11 on an iPad mini 2. It's much slower and lags now. Is there anyway to go back to an older version?

    Poetic TurtleSkin, stand quick fix.

    Posted: 17 Feb 2018 01:28 PM PST

If you bought a nice Poetic TurtleSkin case for your enormous 12.9 iPad, it comes with a flimsy plastic stand that does not hold iPad at all, here is a quick fix.

All you need is a zip tie and pointy scissors. With scissors you will need to rotate round holes into the back plate. Here are pictures to help:

Which IPad Pro Should I Get?

    Posted: 16 Feb 2018 11:44 PM PST

Okay so I can get an ipad pro financed through my employer and here are my options. I can do either a 10.5" pro which is obviously the second gen or a 12.9" pro first gen. I am leaning towards the 10.5" because it is newer gen, but if the pros hold up as well macbook pros do then an older model might not be a bad thing. I would love to hear from anyone who can tell me of their experience of a first gen vs a second gen, and if there is that big of a difference, if any.

iPad receiving texts at home while I’m not home?

    Posted: 16 Feb 2018 08:28 PM PST

I just got my first iPad. I was under the impression that it wouldn't go off with every notification I receive on my phone if I'm not using the iPad. Is there a setting to make it stop?

    iPad Pro keyboard shortcut

    Posted: 16 Feb 2018 09:33 PM PST

Is there a shortcut for the keyboards that will allow you to click a link and have it open in a new tab? Sometimes it's hard to hold down a link long and steady enough to get the pop up menu so that you can click open in new tab. I'm hoping there's a way to just hold a button on the hard keyboard and just click the link to open in new tab like on Mac OS you can hold the cmd button while clicking a link and it'll just open in a new tab

Is the iPad 10.5 enough (compared to the 12.9)?

    Posted: 16 Feb 2018 02:34 PM PST

    Hello!

I used to have an Air 2 and loved it or browsing the web, watching youtube and airplaying/chromecasting netflix and plex to my tv. It felt like a luxury though and I decided to give it to my parents a few months back when their iPad 2 became practically unusable, they have a macbook but only turn it on a few times per year, the iPad is their main device.

I'm really missing my iPad for those tasks and considered the iPad 2017, but I'm incredibly intrigued with the iPP. I tend to read PDFs on the train daily and it's not as intuitive to read and highlight documents on a computer, in those moments I wish I still had my Air.

    Things I'd like to do:

    • Reading and annotating PDFs with the pencil instead of using a mouse cursor (scanned documents with a lot of hand writing so unfortunately the text isn't searchable). This is something I'd do daily. Do my PDF scrolling, bookmarking, highlighting and writing on the iPad, then open the same documents on my mac to add to whatever document I'm working on.
    • I have an adobe lightroom cc subscription so the iPad would be a casual editing device when I'm not at the desk with my external display and laptop.
    • I haven't drawn since school, the iPP with the pencil would give me a chance to do some digital doodling and slowly improve.
    • I'm learning the piano so I'd use the iPad alongside my physical beginners book if I ever want to check something on youtube or open some music sheets (youtube has an amazing library of beginner guides for just about anything).

I know I know, the iPad 12.9 is probably preferable for all of those tasks, but the 10.5 feels so easy to slip into a messenger bag on my way to work, use on the train, at the café and doodle in my documents. If it would only be at my desk at home I'd take the iPad 12.9 every day of the week, but I plan to actually bring it to work every day of the week.

What is reddits verdict? Will the 12.9 suffice? I've played with both at the apple store and the 12.9 inch canvas is gorgeous, but the 10.5 feels a lot more nimble and I'm afraid that I'd get tired of holding the larger iPad with one hand and annotating with the other.

    Thank you!

which iPad pro to buy - iPad pro 12.9 inch vs 10.5 inch?

    Posted: 16 Feb 2018 03:49 PM PST

Hi all I work in a company and I have corporate windows laptop at work and 15 inch mac book pro for personal use at home. I want an iPad to take notes in meetings @ work, transfer those notes to my windows and may be send to via email. Also, I read lot of technical e-books related to my work. Lastly, I want to use iPad+pencil to make flow charts, architectural solution diagrams in iPad. Currently, I use Visio on windows but the thinking of making diagrams with pencil on iPad (with some cool apps) is very enticing. I will be able to make curved line and stuff much easily on iPad rather than using mouse on Visio. Keeping all this in mind, can you provide your take on which version of iPad shall I buy? Regards.
