Posted: 22 Feb 2018 01:54 PM PST As the title says, I got a little obsessed with the idea of starting a Streak a year ago... so I did. Today makes 365 days without a single missed Stand, Move or Exercise ring, and it feels pretty good. I'm still rocking a Series 0 watch, and even though it's painfully slow sometimes, it's still by far the best activity tracker I've ever owned (former Fitbit junkie here). Hope this helps someone else - with a little focus and a quasi-healthy dose of obsession, anyone can do it! EDIT: I shared my story with Apple and some guy named Tim emailed me about this :-) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Feb 2018 05:17 PM PST Hello! As a subscriber of both Apple Music and Spotify I think the two services are very similar on their features AND their problems. My main gripe with both is the management of Artists' discography on their pages. When I go into an artists page, specially when discovering new ones, I really want to see all of their Studio Albums, chronologically ordered in one tab. That way I can properly get to know their work and feel/hear the evolution and changes from their sound through the years, as their career goes by. For me, it doesn't make sense to have the actual albums mixed with Singles, older EPs (from when they were starting as band/group/career), Live versions, Collabs, Acoustic versions etc. That way end up seeing multiple versions of the same song, and if you never listened to it, you might take ages to find out which is the original one. Is it too much to ask for a more organised approach for artists pages, like one "Studio Discography" tab and one "Other Versions/Songs" tab for those services? What do you think? [link] [comments] |

Just picked up a refurbished MacBook Pro (2017) directly from Apple and it... smells bad? Posted: 22 Feb 2018 10:35 AM PST I order all of my Apple kit refurbished, so this isn't my first rodeo, or a knock on the program. But I just picked up a refurbished 15" MBP and out of the box it smells kind of bad. It's got a musty apartment mothball smell to it. It's very strong. It's not just present while pulling it out of the box, but as it sits here on my desk it's radiating. The power cord especially smells this way. My hands smelled a bit after handling it. Granted, I have a sensitive sense of smell. But can anyone else who has recently purchased a MBP, or any Apple employees who open boxes on the regular, confirm that this is normal? Is this just a new factory smell? Or am I dealing with a machine that is bringing some of its past life with it? Update: I returned it. They took it back easily, but were not willing to swap it in-store (unsurprising given that it was a refurb). Let's hope the next one doesn't smell like cat shit. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 05:50 AM PST I'm not sure on the physics of how the IR beam and dot projector work but could a well placed scratch cause FaceID to stop working? iPhone X uses normal glass on the front panel so it definitely scratches easier Was mainly a shower thought but I thought this place would be best to ask. Apple should relax Siri security on AirPods. Posted: 22 Feb 2018 11:21 AM PST Phone unlocked, AirPods in, music on. Phone locked and placed in pocket, double tap for Siri and request that she reads my messages. "You'll need to unlock your iPhone first" ...why? Understandable if my phone had been locked the entire time my AirPods were in, but my face unlocked the phone, since then my AirPods haven't left my ears... in what event is this level of security really necessary? Someone steals my AirPods out of my ears with some kind of warm flannel to prevent them from recognising they've left me, puts them in their own ears then remaining in Bluetooth distance requests to hear my messages? Meanwhile I listen to all this and presume it's part of the song? [link] [comments] |

Remember When Siri Had Raise to Speak? Posted: 22 Feb 2018 08:42 AM PST Siri's raise to speak feature was easily one of the best things Siri ever had. It was so nice to naturally pull my phone out of my pocket, put it to my ear, hear the Siri tone ding, and say "call so-and-so" and it just goes through. Why that was removed and replaced with Hey Siri is beyond me. Even though Siri's voice will go to handset mode when you put the phone to your ear, you still have to manually activate her which is a step backwards. [link] [comments] |

Song added to iTunes cloud library appears as not available on some of my devices Posted: 22 Feb 2018 06:39 PM PST Hello, I recently purchased a song from my Japanese account and downloaded it to my iPad and my iPhone 6S. I have the option turned on to add songs to my library if added them to a playlist (which I did) When I go on my X and my MacBook, I cannot play the song. I get the message saying that "this item cannot be played" I have done this before and my songs sync across all my devices. Any idea what's going on? I think it's important to note that I recently de-authorized all of my devices since random songs were popping up on my library that I didn't add, so I changed my password and de-authorized devices, but I signed in again with the new password. I also checked and my phone is checked for iTunes on the cloud, so I'm not sure what's going on. [link] [comments] |

The Goldilocks Era for iPhone Has Begun Posted: 22 Feb 2018 07:41 AM PST |
Had a fantastic Apple Store Experience this week Posted: 22 Feb 2018 05:46 PM PST I bought a 2015 15 Inch MBP in December of last year. In January of this year I managed to drop said MacBook and break the display. The LCD panel had split, resulting in ink bleed and lines across the left hand side of the screen. I didn't have insurance, nor AppleCare. I was being told that it'd cost anywhere upto £1000 to replace the lid. Fearing the worst, but fully prepared to pay for repairs, I took my MacBook Pro to the Apple Store in Birmingham, UK and explained my incompetence to a Genius person. We chatted back and forth for several minutes while he had a look at the damage before he gave me the bad news: It'll take upto 3-5 days for them to get the replacement screen in stock and then carry out the repair. He then gave me the good news: They'll do it for free. I was stumped. Fully expecting a bill for several hundred pounds, my Genius friend explains he has some leeway in repair costs and tells me not to worry. Accidents happen. To say I was surprised and elated would be an understatement. I almost kissed him. This is why I buy Apple. On top of the amazing hardware and software experience, they provide real customer service which really makes the difference. Instead of telling me 'tough luck' and handing me a bill, he saved me from having a huge headache and treated me like a person. To cap it off, This took place on Tuesday, with a quoted repair time of 3-5 days. They called me Tuesday evening to say it was fixed. This is how you get life long customers. [link] [comments] |
Will the iPhone X be the standard template for the future iPhones? Posted: 22 Feb 2018 10:10 AM PST Just saying since the lack of a physical button of any kind seems kinda strange. Not that it's a new development by any means... At least the FaceID is likely to stay in some fashion since Apple of course wants you to be safe above all else. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Feb 2018 11:19 PM PST Jump+ just opened in my city and am thinking of buying an iPhone X there on financing. Any thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Apple feedback, does Apple really care about our opinion? Posted: 22 Feb 2018 02:25 AM PST when there is some issue some user dont like, top advice is "use Apple feedback". I did send some feedbacks in recent years but one think which I was never sure... does somebody actually read those feedbacks? Does Apple actually care? I dont mean "politely say they care" I mean if they really consider user feedback to change their UX etc.. of products. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Feb 2018 11:06 PM PST Sometimes when I turn off my MBP, the whole screen turns teal right before it shuts off, any idea why? Started a couple months ago [link] [comments] |
