Why doesn't Apple just allow us to select the "suck" minimize effect? Posted: 29 Jan 2018 10:14 PM PST Apple currently has two minimize animations you can officially select from: genie and scale. Genie looks neat but can get grating with how long the animation plays and for me at least is a bit jarring with a side dock. Scale is quick but very boring to look at. Strangely enough there is a third secret animation you can enable with the terminal called "suck" it's similar to genie and it's the best of both worlds, it's fast and looks nice. I've been using it for years and surprisingly it hasn't been patched out after tons of updates. If it's been there this long and it works perfectly why not add it to the drop down menu as a third animation? Here are the terminal commands if you'd like to try the "suck" minimize animation, the parentheses aren't part of these commands. ( defaults write com.apple.dock mineffect -string suck ) press enter then input ( killall Dock ) and press enter again. It can be reversed by selecting one of the other two official minimize animations from the drop down menu in system prefs. [link] [comments] |
Looking for an free program to mount cloud drives as virtual drives Posted: 30 Jan 2018 01:40 AM PST I'm looking for an open source/free alternative to Expandrive and odrive for macOS. My main requirement is to mount various cloud storage providers as volumes on my mac, essentially a virtual drive. Hopefully something that is better than rclone mount, to avoid the sequential write limitations. [link] [comments] |
Photo Library's file bigger than should be? Posted: 29 Jan 2018 03:38 PM PST Hi guys, my photo library is 13.78gb on my Mac and in my iCloud settings it says 11.44gb. Sure then, no problem. The thing is: I don't want my Photo Library to be that bigger since I have a 128gb MacBook Pro. I still have 20gb from my GoPro to be uploaded in my Mac (and to my iCloud online library) and I'm afraid it gets bigger and bigger. In "Photos" I have already marked "Optimize Mac Storage" but the Photo Library "file" is still 13.78gb. Any tips of what am I doing wrong here? I mean, the same photo library at my iPhone is only 800mb. Should I delete the "Photo Library" file? Just don't know what to do so the file gets smaller in Mac lol. Edit: Sorry if I might have posted at the wrong sub, but I wasn't sure where it might fit better lol. Thanks! =) [link] [comments] |

Mail App confusing Office 365 personal and 365 business account logins Posted: 29 Jan 2018 10:17 AM PST ok so this one has been pestering me for a while so I'm trying to find a permanent answer to this. I have a VIP at one of my companies I do IT for who appears to have both a personal and business account with the same email alias. I discovered this when attempting to login to their webmail to show them how that works, I entered user@company.com and it immediately prompted me to sign onto a personal or company account. The paswords are different. Company account is what he needs and if we selected company account and put the PW in, it worked fine. So if we close that and go into the MacOS settings and internet accounts and look at the exchange account, it is the new one I setup for him and has his correct email address and password that successfully logs him into the office.com portal. Everything works normally for a few weeks but seemingly out of nowhere, his mac mail client will say it's not connected and be prompting him for a password. Repeated attempts to put in the known good password continued to say bad/unknown credentials. If I hilight the exchange internet account, I see all the options checked and if I click Details, I put in the known good password and it takes it and mail starts working normally again. He has an Exchange online license if that makes any difference but this is the 3rd time this has happened and it's like either MacOS itself is losing the credentials or connection or something like that or the mail client is losing it. I'm inclined to think that the OS is losing it since the mail app pulls credentials from the internet accounts but I'm at a loss for what to do to prevent this from happening again. Any ideas? MacOS and encrypted, password-protected containers (folders) Posted: 29 Jan 2018 06:02 AM PST I'm fairly new to MacOS so just want to some clarification on how this works to make sure I'm doing the right thing. Up to now I had a spare external HD with sensitive files. This HD was encrypted and I had to put in password every time I plugged it in to my Mac. Now, instead of that, I wanted to transfer these files onto my Mac (permanently) but I wanted to keep same sort of level of protection. It's not a lot (less than 5gb), but what is the best way to encrypt the folder and keep it password protected? I use FileVault regardless. Thanks for any suggestions. PS. I dont mind paying for software if it's worth it, so feel free to recommend paid options as well. [link] [comments] |
Dictionary sources missing after installing 10.13.4 public beta 1 (17E139j) Posted: 29 Jan 2018 03:21 AM PST Before installing the update, I had all the normal dictionary sources in the Dictionary.app preferences, everything was working fine. After installing the update (and doing nothing else) I have only "Wikipedia" as a source, there are no other sources even listed in the app preferences, so it's not like they're disabled. They don't exist at all, weird. I tried deleting some prefs and rebooting, the app told me it had to download some dictionaries but when it was done all I had was Wikipedia still. Anyone else experienced this? Anyone else know how to fix this or have any suggestions? I did some googling and there are some suggestions about extracting the assets from the installer image with Pacifist but they're for older versions and it seems the structure of the installer assets has changed enough that the instructions are no longer useful. How do I reset bootcamp partition in High Sierra without deleting Windows? Posted: 29 Jan 2018 11:42 AM PST Tried to search for tutorials but they are not using High Sierra. Not sure how to do this without destroying my MBP. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jan 2018 11:08 AM PST I recently installed bootcamp on my macbook to run some windows exclusive programs. Whilst I was messing around on the settings, I changed the mouse pointer size to the 2nd option. I changed it back to the 1st option(default) but it was still very large and now it seems like I cannot go back to the original pointer size unless I reset BootCamp. Can anyone help me with this?
