Sold my AW, Missed it, Purchased new one, Almost got my iPhone stolen..

    Hello, Apple Watch community!

I just want to share my stories with my Apple Watch experience with all of you. After all, this is r/AppleWatch. lol

    January 2017

I purchased a gently used 'Apple Watch SG Series 2 42mm with a Woven Nylon Band' off the internet about 4 months after release (January).

    May-June 2017

I liked it at the beginning and after 2 to 4 months I found myself leaving it at home or forgetting to charge it all the time. This was the same routine for the next couple months until I decided to sell it in November.

    Sold!

    Last Week

Fast forward to last week (Wednesday?), I failed to remember that I could trade in my iPhone 7 for cash at the Apple Store. Little did I know that it only counts for in-store credit ($325) which was disappointing to say the least. I took a gander, seeing what I could purchase, because I didn't want an iTunes Gift Card. I passed through the Beats section, iPad section, MacBook section, and finally the Apple Watch section. While looking at the watches, I sorta missed it, the most amusing part albeit is that the 2 months I was without my watch, many people around me also started buying them; friends, family, store workers (small town), and a couple of students in my College classes.

After receiving many, and I mean many questions as to why I purchased an Apple Watch, the same people were wearing them 6+ months after my purchase, while I was without mine. I felt outta the loop, outta the norm. All in all, I was like "what the heck? Better than having my iPhone 7 collecting dust." I decided to go with the 'Apple Watch Nike+ SG Series 3 42mm w/ Anthracite Sport Band' and purchased an additional Black/Volt Nike+ Band, because that's the combo I always wanted in my Series 2.

It's 9am, I'm in class, we're about to take a practice test to see if we belong in that class and everyone has to keep their phones in their backpack; not their pockets, not their hoodies, just their backpacks or facing down on the floor. I placed my iPhone in the side pocket of my backpack for easy access and my backpack is right next to me, so what's the harm? Wrong. Even if you finished early, you still had to wait for the rest of the class to snag your phone outta your backpack.

After 20 minutes we were all finished. I reached for the side-pocket and didn't feel a thing inside the netting. I calmly looked underneath my foot and desk thinking it simply fell out when I reached for my backpack. Wasn't there or under the 4 desks surrounding me. I told the professor that someone stole my phone and she simply gave me the "Did you look around your area" mumbo jumbo, then asked me to call it. I knew by the time someone would let me use their phone, typing down my number to call, that the perpetrator would've turned it off by then. I instantly remembered the 'ping' method. I said "no, it's fine" whilst I scrolled up my watch screen and pinged it. It was coming from the guy who sits two seats behind me, inside his bag.

He looked shocked on what the pinging could possibly be. I opened his backpack right in front of the 30+ students and grabbed my phone. I seriously just wanted to slam my phone straight onto his face (Otterbox), but didn't want to risk getting a penalty. The teacher walked over, dismissed him from her course, and later on put a note on his student account so any other professor the imbecile registers to could see it on his account.

    Now

I am very pleased with my Apple Watch and hoping it lasts a long while this time. As of right now, my usage is 2 days and 13 hours with 40% battery left. This is way better than my S2. I am not updating it for months, not risking Apple throttles.

Voice recognition win. I dictated this to my Apple Watch and it even got the name “Simona” right.

Why can't Siri activate my flashlight?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2018 04:54 AM PST

So I got up in the middle of the night and figured it would be easier to just speak to Siri in my half asleep state, but then she said she could not do that!

I'm genuinely staggered. How/why has Apple not enabled this feature?

Does the Apple Watch drain more battery if not connected?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2018 08:02 AM PST

Hi all, I have noticed some interesting battery behavior lately. At work, I disable bluetooth on my phone and there's no wifi at work, so my watch is rarely connected to my phone at the office. On days I don't have work, I keep connected via bluetooth. I noticed my watch battery tends to drain more quickly when I don't have it connected to bt or wifi vs when I do. I would think it's the other way around. Does the apple watch constantly search for a paired phone or connection if unpaired and could that be why its draining?

Also, yesterday I charged my watch to 100% in the morning, and took it off the charger. Didn't wear it at all, just left it on my dresser. Went out, did many errands throughout the day and got back home early evening to find it on 18%. How did it drain so much by sitting on my dresser?

Also noteworthy, I work out a lot and use the watch for the workouts with the heart rate monitor enabled, and even on a full day of activity and bluetooth connected, with a full hour workout, by the end of day, my watch is maybe at 30%. So I am a bit puzzled as to why the battery seems to drain with less activity and connection than it does with a connection and 1 hr of a work out tracking

    Activity Ring

    Posted: 16 Jan 2018 06:49 AM PST

How exactly does this exercise ring work? I usually get 600-800 on my Move and struggle to get 30 minutes of exercise. The other day at the gym i was on a bike for 15 minutes and 0 minutes were attributed to my Exercise ring. Can anyone offer clarification on exactly how this works?

For those frustrated with battery life on s0 after 4.2

    Posted: 16 Jan 2018 06:45 AM PST

Try uninstalling all third party apps and restarting. I'm at 50% at the end of the day just like old times. Unfortunately it's been hit or miss on the s0 since the update, I've tried everything such as switching watch faces, erase and reset, setting up as new, and thought it was fixed one day then the next, dead after 5 hours. I guess it's something with 3rd party apps running in the background and not being optimized for the old watch. Stick with stock apps and you should be good.

How do you protect your Watch?

    Posted: 15 Jan 2018 11:32 PM PST

A day after getting the Series 3 in space grey aluminum I can see a small scuff and a few light scratches on the glass.

How do you guys protect your Watch? If at all? I'm trying to find the best product for the job but there are so many options online. If you could link to one, it'd be awesome.

Apple leather watch bands and aluminum model.

    Posted: 15 Jan 2018 10:52 PM PST

Hey guys I recently purchased a silver aluminum AW 3 series and I'm curious to know how apple's leather bands look on it. I know they look better on the stainless steel model but I'd really like to purchase a leather band to be able to wear it for nicer occasions. Pics would be really helpful!

    stuck in 24-hour time??

    Posted: 16 Jan 2018 07:23 AM PST

My father has a series 1 and called me last night to say it's "stuck in military time" and wanted to know how to get it back to 12-hour format. I had him go to clock and turn off 24 hour mode in the Watch app but he said it didn't fix it - it was still in 24 hour time.

Are there any face-specific settings or other places that could affect that? Any ideas? The only thing that comes to mind (which I didn't have him check) was maybe he accidentally turned off bluetooth on his phone and it's not actually connected to the watch - so changing the setting wouldn't have propagated to the watch itself? Anything else I can have him look at? He's 1000 miles away from me so I can't physically verify anything, unfortunately.

Battery suddenly just dropped like a rock

    Posted: 16 Jan 2018 07:19 AM PST

Been getting two days usage consistently before last week. Now I'm down to 33% by end of day. I haven't changed anything. Where can I check what is sucking down my battery?

[Question] Do any of you use watch based turn by turn navigation for running?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2018 06:20 AM PST

I am looking to start going for longer runs around the 18-20km sort of length and I would like turn by turn navigation on my watch.

At the moment I just run around where I live which is beautiful but I've been doing that so long that it's not quite as exciting as it used to be. I used to use MapMyRun to create routes and then run them with my phone attached to my arm, then I turned to Strava and added the routes to my Fenix 3 with my phone strapped to my arm for music/audiobooks. Now I have my Apple Watch S3 LTE and am able to go completely phone-less with my airpods for music - but I don't always know where I'm going. Of course if I get lost I can look where I am on Apple Maps and maybe call my wife to come and pick me up if I've strayed too far but that's not the point.

One app that I have found in my searches is RunGo, it seems as though you can create routes on your phone and send them to your watch but the problem is that it is also a running tracker and I would rather not have an extra running tracker going in the background in addition to the workout app which is my preferred tracker as I can sync it perfectly with the Activity App and Strava. That would mean 2 apps tracking my workout with one of them also navigating. I would rather my battery only had to navigate and run one running tracker.

Do any of you have a go-to turn-by-tun navigation app for running? Can you create routes in Apple Maps and send them to your watch?

    Am I being silly?

    So satisfying

    Posted: 15 Jan 2018 06:49 PM PST

Has Apple ever gave an official reason as to why we can no longer browse our iPhone iTunes playlists via Watch OS 4 anymore? Are there any music apps that lets me do that?

Anyone having issues with crown "sticking" on Series 3 AW?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2018 05:06 AM PST

As the title speaks, I seem to have an intermittent issue with my crown, from initial turn, sticking and not being fluid. It doesn't happen all the time but there is no rhyme or reason why it should be occurring. Let me know if you folks find this more systemic.

battery life so much better with S1 vs S0, 38mm

    Posted: 15 Jan 2018 09:20 PM PST

I had an 38mm S0 and was getting tired of running out of battery by the end of the day. Typically the battery would be between 0 and 25% by the time I'd go to sleep (it would run to zero occasionally but within an hour or two of bed). I was hoping to get a bit better battery life and searched online and watched some youtube videos and found out that the S1 is supposed to have much better battery life. So I just bought a used 38mm S1 on ebay and even though they have the same size battery, I'm now ending the day at around 45-60% with the same sort of activity and workouts.

I'm super happy about this and don't have to worry about running out of battery if I have an extra active day with longer workouts.
