| AppleTV 4k Flashing picture, pink noise, and more Posted: 17 Jan 2018 10:05 AM PST I realize I'm not alone in having this issue, but my AppleTV 4k is doing a lot of flashing (picture going on/off), sometimes dropping all video, pink noise, and other issues. Restarting the AppleTV usually fixes the problem for a period of time, but eventually the problem starts again. Occasionally I will unplug the HDMI and plug it back in, and that fixes it as well, for a small amount of time. I have tried two different high-speed HDMI cables, and currently I am using the one that Apple sells and recommends for the ATV. The ATV is set to "match" - oh, and if I use another 4k device on that TV input, it works fine (so I don't believe there is a flaw in the TV.) Any ideas? Wait for an OS update? | Issues with playing videos in iTunes Posted: 17 Jan 2018 07:21 PM PST Hey everyone, first post, long-time reader, Has anyone had issues recently with playing videos on the Apple TV 4 purchased from iTunes? At the beginning of each video I play it starts in really low quality before upscaling. My internet speed hasn't changed and it didn't used to do this, also, all my other video apps (Netflix, DIRECTV Now, Plex) aren't doing this. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! | atv apps continue to use bandwidth while backgrounded Posted: 17 Jan 2018 12:37 PM PST I've noticed some bad behavior of at least a couple of atv apps in that they continue to use not-insignificant bandwidth while backgrounded. The CBS News app is one offender, as once launched, it continues to drain ~200kbps of bandwidth in the background for days until killed manually. I've experienced this now dozens of times, and tracked its usage to >12h of background usage while never foregrounded once. (And only stopped because I noticed it and shot it.) ***This continues even when the atv is sleeping. I just noticed this again for the ABC app which I clocked at ~2Mbps of bandwidth in the background, again while the atv was put to sleep from the main Watch Now screen (so ABC app was in background even before sleep). Anyone else notice this? I realize that most folks may not have routers that give enough info, or are paying attention to such things. I'm able to pinpoint the app as I'm looking at where the connection is open to on my router (resolving to CBS/akamai and ABC video distribution points in these cases), and the connection immediately goes away when I manually kill the app from the task switcher. | Posted: 17 Jan 2018 10:58 AM PST I own a 4th gen AppleTV and a 4K TV I bought back in 2015, but unfortunately the TV doesn't have HDR capability. It's an awesome TV, and I definitely don't want to buy a new one, but I just started watching the new Planet Earth and I own a bunch of HD iTunes movies and I like the idea of upgrading to 4K, so I figured I'd buy a new 4K AppleTV. I've read a lot of reviews and searched some fortunes, and it seems like a lot of people say that HDR is amazing and for some, it's more of a visual upgrade than the resolution boost of 4K is. Does anyone out there own an ATV 4K but not have a capable HDR television? I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it to upgrade. AppleTV is my primary means of watching content. | 4th Gen Apple TVs all dying on me Posted: 17 Jan 2018 07:23 AM PST Anyone else having issues with their Apple TVs just crapping out on them? I own three of the 4th Gen models and all constantly go into recovery mode or state I have to restore it. All started up recently..... I have an appointment with the genius bar today but I'm tempted to just say screw it and switch to Roku. Anyone else having similar issues? UPDATE: The Apple store replaced one, and the other is on back order. They restored both in store again as well - one still booted to the erase all content / restart screen, and other one did okay. | Posted: 17 Jan 2018 01:10 PM PST I'm trying to optimize the picture on my ATV4K with my Epson projector. One of the dials I want to turn is the color chroma. The PJ can accept 4K/HDR at 24, 25 or 30Hz. However, in all these implementations, the color chroma option is limited to 4:2:2 - I can't try out 4:2:0, which I want to do to troubleshoot an artifact. The text under Chroma indicates that it would let me choose between 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 but...only 4:2:2 is available. Anyone know what's happening here? [link] [comments]  | ||
| [QUESTION] Anyone having issues with AppleTV 4K not waking from standby on LG OLED TV's? Posted: 17 Jan 2018 12:07 PM PST I have an LG OLED65B7P TV with an AppleTV4k. I have noticed about maybe once a week, when I go to turn on/wake up my apple TV from standby by clicking the touch pad, or menu button on the remote, the front light indicator does not light up and it doesn't turn on. I have to fully power-cycle it in order for it to boot up and display on the screen. After the powercycle, the unit operates normally. I've already did an RMA on the AppleTV and the replacement (which was brand new) is doing the exact same thing. I've tried different wall outlets, power bars, HDMI cables (which are compliant with the latest HDMI spec) UPS battery backup devices, the only thing I can think of is the TV itself. I was running version 04.70.07 of the firmware on my TV and recently upgraded to 04.70.30 - so far have not had the issue happen but it may just be too soon to know.
