I just bought my wife a new MacBook Pro and she washed it. In the washing machine. Full cycle. Posted: 14 Jan 2018 09:52 PM PST My wife and I have been getting by with 10 year old MBPs and her's finally was showing its age and slowing down. We reluctantly admitted it was time to buy her a new laptop, which is a big deal as it is the most expensive item we own. However its how we do our work so it is crucial to our livelihood. Last month I bought her a new 15" MBP. We have been working 12-14 hour shifts and have a newborn at home so money and time is tight. Some things are not getting done at home, some are not getting done well. My wife was carrying laundry and her laptop downstairs and, to make the trip easier, put the laptop in the laundry hamper. She dumps the hamper in the washing machine, turns it on, and in 50 minutes she has the cleanest MBP seen outside an Apple store. I have heard of a variety of ways people have destroyed their laptops, but this was a new one to me, so I thought I'd share and maybe you'd get a laugh out of our ridiculous situation. If anyone has any idea of what to do next, I'd appreciate it. I've never broken something like this before, so I just don't know what to do. I cannot imagine Apple can fix an entirely sodden laptop. It seems like every component would be toast. I am looking into whether my credit card or homeowner's insurance covers this. Any ideas appreciated. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 08:23 PM PST Just wanted to remind everyone that you are just as vulnerable as everyone else even if you have an iPhone. Hackers will sooner or later learn how exactly to exploit this security flaw. Update your devices and try not to download anything unless its strictly from the app store. Just thought this was an important and timely reminder. Also us Apple users aren't used to these large security flaws but don't be fooled this time around. Thanks for reading.

Is there a benefit to W1 headphones after the initial pairing? Posted: 14 Jan 2018 04:51 PM PST I'm thinking about purchasing a pair of wireless earbuds. Initially, I was looking at the BeatsX because of the W1 chip, but I'm unclear on how much of a difference W1 actually makes in practice. The main benefit I hear about is how easy it is to pair them and how they will sync across all your devices, but I only have an iPhone and a MacBook, so it's not like it would be saving me an enormous amount of time. And pairing is something you only need to do once anyways. So are there any other benefits to W1 that I'll notice after I've paired the headphones? Is it significantly easier to switch between audio sources - say from playing music on my Mac to taking a call on my iPhone - than it would be with normal headphones? Is the range significantly further? Are they more reliable? TL;DR: How much will I notice the W1 chip in day-to-day usage? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Jan 2018 12:43 PM PST It's been coming out on tv a lot lately and it just infuriates me at the very end when the girls neighbor asks "what are you doing on your computer?" and the girl responds "what's a computer?" I know it's not a computer but that girl is at least 13-15 years old and for her to not know what a computer is is ridiculous. It just bugs me every time it comes on and had to go on a little rant. PSA: Apple support for battery program. Posted: 14 Jan 2018 07:59 AM PST If you want to save some time waiting for your battery to be ordered. If you contact Apple support, they are able to place the order for your battery and put it on hold at your store of choice. The store will contact you once the battery is in. This will save you a ton of time waiting in the store for them to do the same thing! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Jan 2018 05:43 PM PST I have been using CarPlay through my iPhone 7+ in my new CRV. I want to share my experience and hopefully it helps someone to make an informed decision.

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 03:51 PM PST So I booked an appointment to get the battery changed in my 6S which I've had since launch day 2015. Dropped it off, and was told to come back in an hour. When I arrived to pick it up from the store, I was told the battery has been changed however during their test run they discovered TouchID was no longer working. Then the lady told me that they will replace my current iPhone with a brand new 6S at no extra charge!!! Pretty impressive considering how long I've had it (2.5 years) and that I only paid £25! While I don't appreciate Apple slowing down older iPhones (the new 6S is wayyy faster than my old one), Apple Customer service is 10/10! P.S. I kinda wish I had asked if I could possibly upgrade to a newer model, but one can't be too greedy! ;) [link] [comments] |
Does Apple compress bluetooth audio on iPhones? Posted: 14 Jan 2018 12:45 PM PST Whenever I try to play music through iPhone Bluetooth in my car it sounds low quality as if it's being compressed. I would expect some loss of quality but there is audible crackling in the background. It doesn't seem to happen with Bluetooth headphones. Additionally, the same issue happens with iPhone 7 and iPhone X. However, Android devices don't have the same issue at all. It sounds great, like it should. I tried looking into technical specs between iPhone X and Pixel 2 and I don't see anything different when it comes to Bluetooth. Anyone else experience this issue? [link] [comments] |
I was looking to start Multiroom system and guess I’ll end up with HomePod Posted: 15 Jan 2018 12:14 AM PST I was thinking of starting a Multiroom system for my apartment. With AirPlay2 and Apple TV my living room is pretty much ready. I don't care about smart assistants unless I can't turn it off. So, google and amazon are a no-go as they emphasize smart functions over sound quality. Therefore, I decided to look for a speaker for my bedroom.
and then there's HomePod - looks good - has WiFi AC - is dirty cheap compared to those above So, if HomePod sound good - and it seems like it will compete with M5 or Play3 - it will be a clear winner. If not, guess M5 is good enough. I'm astounded by the state multi room is in. [link] [comments] |
Looking for an app for iOS and apple watch to track a gym workout... Posted: 14 Jan 2018 06:12 PM PST Just joined a gym and am mostly enjoying the machine circuits. I'm big into leveraging technology to make life easier. I have been looking for a simple app that will allow me to add each machine, the weights I need for that exercise, track my reps... And I've found a few apps that do that... But not ONE so far will allow me to put in, "set the chair at 2, the arms at 4" or whatever the machine needs so I can reach exercise correctly. I can't be the only one looking for this. I have a trainer at the gym, so I don't need a virtual trainer. I need to not carry around a piece of paper around, but that's what I'm feeling I'm going to need to do. Any help? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Jan 2018 11:41 PM PST So I've had the Apple Watch since 2015 and the touch screen of my watch stopped working yesterday. Do you guys know if Apple still provides services for the S0 and how much it would cost to get it fixed? Or is there an upgrade program where I can give the S0, pay some cash and get the S3? Tip to put Safari video into full screen Posted: 14 Jan 2018 06:32 AM PST Apologies if this is common knowledge, but it's new to me. In iOS 11 for the iPhone (probably for iPad too), instead of tapping the full-screen icon, you can do a two-finger spread gesture on the video image itself. This also has the effect of unmuting and starting the video if it's muted or paused beforehand. A two-finger closing gesture works to put it back to the in-browser view, but so does swiping down. And of course closing full-screen view also pauses the video. I like it. [link] [comments] |

Creating a location triggered gym pass Posted: 14 Jan 2018 03:35 PM PST I know some gyms have the ability to incorporate their scannable membership cards into passbook but my gym (retro fitness) doesn't. Anyways, I got to researching a bit and I found a few websites that can tweak templates to build you a custom Apple wallet pass that'll trigger at a given location with given data. After a couple hours of tinkering I came up with a final pass that had everything I need including a nice design and geolocation triggers for my local retro branches. But the barcode at the bottom wont change no matter what I try. Anyways, I got frustrated and quit. Has anyone done this already for a similar scenario/would be willing to help guide me in making a functioning one? Just really hate using the physical pass or accessing their useless buggy app. Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Jan 2018 11:17 PM PST EDIT: "I've always heard" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyDAh_sHJ8s This is a video that shows how to hide (not remove) scratches from Apple devices using a blueprint pencil. The results look very impressive and it looks like the scratches disappeared almost completely. Does this really work and has anyone tried it or is this all a bluff? [link] [comments] |
What is your favorite bag (messenger or backpack) for a 15" touchbar MBP? Posted: 14 Jan 2018 07:40 PM PST I'm looking for a nice bag for my new 15" MBP. I have an ebags backpack which is awesome as far as origination but I don't like that the laptop compartment is GIGANTIC and wide open. When I had my 13" I had to put it in a sleeve then in the bag to feel safe. I found a few bags I like but many of them have little to no actual protection for the laptop, especially on the bottom of the bag. What is your favorite bag? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Jan 2018 09:33 AM PST Was in need of a good converting method and browsed through Reddit and came across this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/36kf1v/flac_to_apple_lossless_software/ Later found the solution to this and had good results. I think I should simply share this method in case someone wants the same thing achieved.
(Alternatively, if an avi video) 5. Input another command
I am not a fan or really die-hard and caring about these. Just happened I found a way to make it work so I just shared. Explanations on arguments Sorry for the formats. Fiddled with it a bit but still not getting it right. I hope it is still readable now. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Jan 2018 03:37 PM PST Has anyone had this problem yet? mY iPhone X has never been near water or dropped. Screen stopped responding to touch today randomly. I've restored it 3 times and still nothing. I tried making a Genius Bar appointment and then next available one is 6 days away. I use this phone for work (but not paid for by work). Does anyone know what I can do? [link] [comments] |
