What is an acceptable battery cycle count when purchasing a used MBP? Posted: 15 Jan 2018 09:00 PM PST I am looking into an early 2013 MacBook Pro 15' and I was wondering what would be an acceptable count on the battery cycle before I purchase. Thanks [link] [comments]

2018 MacBook Pro Release Date? Posted: 15 Jan 2018 05:50 PM PST I really want to get a new MacBook Pro before the college semester in the fall. Will the 2018 MacBook Pro be released by then? It seems like they would be missing out on a large demographic of new college students if they released it later in the year, once everybody has already purchased a laptop for college. Question about upgradability/repairability of this Macbook Posted: 15 Jan 2018 08:45 PM PST So I want to make sure to buy a MacBook that can be upgraded and repaired. I've heard that 2015 MacBooks and before are able to do this while newer ones have no possibility. This is the laptop I saw on craigslist: Now. From what I've seen online this laptop can have it's SSD upgraded and the battery can be replaced. These are my two main concerns. I just want to make sure this is the case so I'd love if someone could confirm/deny it. I will absolutely need to upgrade its SSD as it's too low for me and I'd hope to be able to replace the battery once it dies out. Thank you in advance. [link] [comments]
My 2011 MBP might be done for, should I try to fix it anyway? Posted: 15 Jan 2018 06:48 PM PST So I have an early 2011 MBP. It was working fine yesterday but then it just died, I believe it's the hard drive. I have talked to the folks at Apple and they told me it's now considered vintage. I have a newer MBP but I still used my 2011 one everyday for everything. Should I think about getting it fixed or just try to scrap it? I was hoping to get at least maybe $200 for it :/ but I'm not sure what to do with it. [link] [comments]
2012 "quicker" Macbook Air vs 2014 Macbook Air Posted: 15 Jan 2018 03:49 PM PST Hi, I'm trying to decide between these two models as I am purchasing used on eBay. Basically, the 2012 has an i7 and a 500GB storage, whereas the newer 2014 has an i5 only. Both have 8gb RAM. The price difference is about $70, but every bit counts on my budget. Is the processor upgrade from Ivy bridge to Haswell worth it in the long run? I'm going to mainly use this machine hooked up to a 22" external and doing light web development on it. The 2014 also has the edge of just being newer in general, and also faster wifi AFAIK. Thanks for the help, reddit :) [link] [comments]

Help needed for troubleshooting a slow Macbook Pro Posted: 15 Jan 2018 12:06 PM PST I need advice about getting my Macbook Pro to run faster. I purchased it in late 2013, so I think it's reasonable to expect it to function well (right? I'm never sure with electronics). Here are the specs: - 2.5 GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5, Turbo boost up to 3.1 GHz - 4GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2.2GB - 500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm Here are my issues: I feel like all I see is the spinning rainbow cursor, no matter what I'm doing. I use the computer for web browsing, streaming, and not much else. I don't have a lot of stuff on there, I'd say the hard drive is less than 50% full. I don't think I have a lot of applications installed. Quitting Chrome is a 1+ minute endeavor. If I accidentally get in the spotlight search or open something I don't mean to open, I cringe because it'll take me two minutes to get back to what I'm doing. What steps can I take to troubleshoot and speed up the performance? [link] [comments]

MacBook Pro's and their processor jokes... Posted: 15 Jan 2018 11:48 AM PST Hey. I am searching for a portable (preferably 13in) MacBook with removable storage as well as RAM that's equipped with a quad-core processor. Is such an option available? Production year should be after 2013. If there are other options in the 15in lineup, I would of course like to know about them, too. I will begin studying this year and would like to have a portable laptop to edit 1080p video on and occasionally also 2k and 4k, both in Premiere and maybe later down the line in Final Cut. Apple removed the possibility to upgrade RAM and Storage on the latest models (which I am still pissed off about, that's also why I am not really considering one of the new RazerBlades), I need both to be interchangeable though. What are the latest models still featuring removable internals as well as a quad-core processor? I want the old ports, too. Please help, I can't really get a grip on all the models. How does my 1000+ cycles Macbook's battery still at good health? Posted: 15 Jan 2018 06:44 AM PST I'm currently at 1010 cycles (which exceeds the 1000 cycles on Apple's website), yet my battery health is at 81.3%, but I know it runs out way faster than before... can anyone explain this? Copy OneDrive folder from PC to MAC Posted: 15 Jan 2018 07:43 AM PST Just purchased a used MacBook Pro.... i'm new to Mac OS. I currently have around 100GB of files synced to my OneDrive acct. Can I just transfer these files from my PC to the Mac so that I don't have to download them over the internet? The computer actually won't be here for another couple of days, so i'm trying to get everything in order for migration. It looks like the Mac OneDrive folder doesn't allow on-demand file downloads as it does on the PC. [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 Jan 2018 06:46 AM PST Sorry if this is too simple but I've google it and cannot find the answer. I need to know the dimensions in inches of a jpeg file. How do I do that on my macbook? [link] [comments]
Wi-Fi only connects when close to router . Posted: 15 Jan 2018 06:29 AM PST It's a MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2013). I have a d-link wireless nano adapter which works fine except it only works in 2.4ghz band and its not as fast as it would be normally (whether 2.4 or 5ghz). If I'm close to the router I get normal full speed without the adapter. I've ran different diagnostics on the mac but they all come up clean. Any ideas what could be wrong? how could I investigate this further? thanks; [link] [comments]
