How to clean your AirPods case Posted: 27 Jan 2018 05:02 PM PST I made a video on how to clean your Apple AirPods case of metal shavings/filings that might get stuck to the magnets of the case from your pocket and/or hinge. It's really just a one minute job! It's nothing complicated. Hope it helps somebody! [link] [comments] |

My never ending tale of 4 replacement 15" Touch Bar MBP's and I need some advice! Posted: 27 Jan 2018 04:47 AM PST I'll keep this as quick as I can, as it's been an awful ride! But a nice box collection right?? https://i.imgur.com/v8o5HOJ.jpg Save up my coin for a top spec 2016 MBP-TB as I want to get into audio engineering and mixing. I have started a Masters in music and wanted to take the year seriously, I also wanted a machine that I could keep for the next 7-8 years and watch it kick ass throughout. MACBOOK 1 JOINS THE GAME. Works good, right up until it starts making a horrible chassis rattle. Like something was loose and running around in there, take it to the store and I get an IMMEDIATE replacement. Nice! Although backing up and getting everything back on the machine is a pain (Logic doesnt back up all the sound libraries, they have to be re-downloaded. On Australian internet it's painful) MACBOOK 1 IS DEFEATED… MACBOOK 2 JOINS THE GAME. It starts rattling too! So I take it in, they offer a repair to make sure the issue doesn't come back. I hate not having a laptop but if thats what it takes to have the 8 year old laptop dream so be it. Repair takes longer than quoted but I get it back. Get it home and the left thunderbolt ports are MIA. Nothing, nadda. So a freshly repaired macbook is worse than it left, sure it rattled but all the ports worked!! I got back in, they swap me a referb with a slightly higher pocessor (I was only 1 off the top so that's a nice boost!) MACBOOK 2 IS DEFEATED… MACBOOK 3 JOINS THE GAME. "Cool!", I said. New macbook with spec bump in hand. "Now it will last 9 years!" I said with a smile, right up until it started rattling again. I ain't rough with these machines! They are bagged and lovingly stored/transported. But I do gently tap on the chassis when setting tempos or when I am brain storming during a writing session. That's how I keep finding the sound, also it would rattle setting down on tables… I kick up a huge stink with Apple over the phone as they are getting flaky at this stage. They ended up sending me a 1TB drive as a "sorry", token and appreciated but a band aid fix if anything. I take it to the store. Tone has changed now, they declare that "That's how it is. No more repairs". It cost me $5000 dollarydoos and not even my $500 Acer machines rattled. So I took my money back, and put it down on a 2017 of the same specs. MACBOOK 3 IS DEFEATED… MACBOOK 4 JOINS THE GAME. 6 months have passed at this point. "Oh baby, this is finally it" I said excitedly. "Now I will last 10 years!". clears throat Disk Utility refused to partition the SSD. No bootcamp which means no FLStudio! On and off the phone with Apple and they don't have a damn clue. They said they would email me back but in the end never did. Fuck em. Months later the machine starts running real slow at times. Like single frame rate kinda stuff, 1998 Acer Aspire style. So I give it a whole reformat (I have reformatted my machines around 8 times at this point during this saga, somehow data kept running away and I've lost some important files over time). Bootcamp works now which is nice but now a month later (today) it's running slow again. Something is wrong, not even Safari opens at times. Not even the Finder! 3.1 GHz i7. But what's almost worse is now the bloody hinge clicks! Every time you open it, it goes "POP". If I wanna adjust it? "POP". I move my leg while it's on my lap, "POP". I took it to Apple, it needs a full lid change to fix it. Yes it's cool that I don't gotta pay, BUT WHY AM I HAVING THESE ISSUES!? I couldn't have the work done anyways as I need my machine for my own work! I was expecting a screw tightening or something but it was full on surgery with a wait time. $5000, and now I have to take it back again. Not just for the hinge but for the awful performance I am getting on even a freshly formatted machine. 4 Macbooks.
What would you guys do?? I fuggin hate these things now, look at all the boxes I have! the last one didn't come in a box I've had failed machines that are brand new, I've even had failed repairs!! I've been ignored and I've had standards changed under my feet. Something was was seen as a "quick get this guy another machine!" on my first visit to being pushed aside and told "that how it is, just deal with it" on the last. I am close to getting my money back once more and never buying a Macbook again. Get a great Windows machine AND make a gaming PC for the same price as this beautiful piece of trash. (yes, many of you are having a great time with your 15" MBP with touch bar, alas I have not). Lemme know! Thanks for putting up with the big read. [link] [comments] |

The product I want more than any other—high end AirPods Posted: 27 Jan 2018 12:43 PM PST When Apple released AirPods, the pre-release consensus was skeptical to say the least. Many criticized the price—"$169 for EarPods? They should include them in the box!" Others were hung up on the elimination of their precious 3.5mm headphone jack, lamenting the transition to a wireless future. But as time as passed, and customers received their units, one universal truth has risen above the noise—AirPods are sensational, and arguably the best product Apple has released in years. The headphone jack chatter was muted in light of Apple's definitive proof that a wireless future is a better future; the price complaints withered away as it became clear that Apple's execution put the rest of the market to shame, and was actually one of the cheaper options in comparison. As Apple prepares to release HomePod, what many are dubbing "AirPods for the Home", they are positioning the product's defining feature as industry-leading sound quality. HomePod could be cheaper, but they are justifying a higher price because of the priority they're putting on sound quality. This made me realize something—I don't use AirPods for the sound quality, but in spite of it. It is perhaps the sole attribute of AirPods that I find lacking. They certainly don't sound bad, but they certainly don't sound excellent either. And if Apple were to release a higher-priced version— the industry-leading AirPods form factor and technical cohesion with sound quality on par with a pair of high-end headphones, I would be willing to pay a significant premium for that product. So this is what I propose. The existing AirPods remain at the existing price of $169 with slightly improved sound quality. But alongside that update, Apple introduces a new pair of AirPods with truly high-end sound quality. Price them at $299. Color them black. This is my dream product, and it would very much fit the MO of Apple's existing product line—iPhone 8/iPhone X, MacBook/MacBook Pro, Apple Watch Sport/Apple Watch/Apple Watch Edition, iMac/iMac Pro, iPad/iPad Pro. We have AirPods—here's hoping for AirPods [Pro/X/Studio/Edition...]. [link] [comments] |

B&H has a good deal on 2015 macbook pros. Posted: 27 Jan 2018 04:12 PM PST I just thought I'd post this tidbit, B&H has a very good deal on 2015 retina macbook pro 13" models. They are charging $1249. Models have 16GB ram and 256GB SSD. B&H ships expedited for free and does not charge sales tax to customers located outside of New York and New Jersey. And the machines are new-in-box, not refurbished, not previously owned. I've been needing to upgrade from my 2009 macbook pro for a very long time and just pulled the trigger on this one. /r/apple loves to recommend the 2015 macbook pro to people but I haven't seen anything close to this good of a deal for a non-refurbished unit. Also worth noting that the B&H iphone app accepts apple pay. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jan 2018 06:35 PM PST This issue had me dumbfounded all day yesterday. I was unable to backup my iPhone to my MBP and iCloud. And I had 293gb free on my MBP and plenty of space in iCloud as well. After trying all the trouble shooting tips I found on Reddit/Google and through Apple Support, I decided to try this:https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202778 I untrusted my MBP from my iPhone. Plugged back in. Trusted. Initiated the back up. Worked perfectly. Hopefully this will help save your Saturday! [link] [comments] |
Things that drive me nuts about FaceTime Video on iPhone Posted: 27 Jan 2018 09:14 AM PST 1) You can't fully mute the video. There are times when I FT with someone for a short while and sound over speakers isn't an option. I'd like to fully mute the audio. 2) FT pauses if you're in another app. Seriously, just because I went into the messaging app or any other app should not mean I can no longer see the video and the other person sees 'paused' as well. USB-C to HDMI stopped working after 13.13.3 Update Posted: 27 Jan 2018 07:25 AM PST I have a multi-adapter Dodocool DC35 (https://www.dodocool.com/p-dc35b.html) and everything worked until I updated my MacBook Pro 15" 2017 to MacOs 13.13.3. Now everything works except the HDMI connector (I've tried different cables and screens), when I connect the adapter, the mouse starts to freeze and then nothing. I've installed Windows 10 using bootcamp and the adapter works fine, it seems a software issue. Anybody with the same issue? [link] [comments] |
Will Apple watch cellular dial 911 without the cellular subscription? Posted: 27 Jan 2018 12:14 PM PST I know cell phones will dial out emergency numbers even without a sim. Will apple watch cellular do the same even if you don't get the $10/mo add on for watch cellular from your carrier? Not much on Apple's website about this. [link] [comments] |
Apple TV + Siri Smart Alarm Clock Posted: 27 Jan 2018 02:15 PM PST I was thinking what could help make Apple TV a much better product than it currently is. If I am like a lot of people, I have a tv in my bedroom, with an Apple TV connected. I think the Apple TV, in conjunction with Siri, could make an incredible alarm clock to wake up to...hear me out: 5:00 AM rolls around and you hear a soft alarm and the room slowly lights up as Apple TV turns itself and your TV on. You say "I'm up." or "5 more minutes" (if you want to "snooze"). The alarm fades out/turns off. If you decide to wake up, Siri asks you "would you like to know what the weather is going to be like today?" "Sure." The Apple TV screen shows an hourly forecast for the morning and Siri tells you it's going to be a specific temperature for your morning commute, if it's going to rain it will remind you to grab an umbrella. Then Siri asks "Would you like to hear some morning news?" "Sure." And Siri commences to tell you the latest headlines while showing you pictures of the events, and/or video. Then Siri can tell and/or show you any appointments or reminders you have for the day. If you have a significant other/partner I'm sure there are reasons this isn't practical (say if your partner didn't need to wake up then). But I imagine a lot of people wake up together so this wouldn't be too much of an issue. I'm sure there are more features that could be added, but a simplistic/smart way to wake up seems like a no brainer for a device as nice/seamless as Apple TV. And I know this would require Siri to become a bit more intelligent in how it interacts with people, but it could be a good way for Apple to improve the service. I think it's a good idea, but I'm probably missing some obvious reason why it's not practical. [link] [comments] |

Any waterproof Bluetooth speakers that use the lighting connector??? Posted: 27 Jan 2018 09:52 AM PST I've been looking for a waterproof Bluetooth speaker that uses apple's lighting connector/cord. Strange that I can't seem to find any. I'm not looking for a "dock" style speaker, just a simple waterproof Bluetooth speaker that I can charge with my iPhone lighting cable. Any suggestions?
