I know wirelessly extending an airport network slows it, but does extending it via ethernet cable? Posted: 16 Jan 2018 09:43 PM PST I have an airport extreme as my main wifi router. I initially added an express via wifi, but noticed pretty serious weakening of the wifi strength, which I've read it common. Does adding the express by connecting it to the extreme via ethernet cable cause the same degradation? I'd prefer to add the second wifi router on the same network, rather than plugging it into the cable modem (like the extreme) and creating a second one. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
"USB Accessories Disabled" constantly popping up Posted: 16 Jan 2018 08:49 PM PST I am getting a super annoying error on my MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015). It pops up at irregular intervals, approximately every 10 minutes. The error warns about a USB device which is drawing too much power, and says that it should be unplugged - however - there is nothing plugged in to USB, and there hasn't been for months. The only thing that shows up under "USB" in my system information is my "Bluetooth USB Host Controller", which is built in and has never caused me any trouble before. Any tips on how to troubleshoot/resolve this error would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
My calls don’t route through to my iPad from my iPhone anymore. Posted: 16 Jan 2018 04:04 PM PST I switched from ATT to Verizon and added my iPad to get data on it which I didn't have on ATT. My calls no longer come through on my iPad which they did before. Am i missing a setting that got turned off or is this a result of getting the cell signal on the iPad? [link] [comments] |
Need to delete previous Imac account owner name and password off Imac 2011 Posted: 16 Jan 2018 05:52 PM PST I purchased an iMac 1TB off Ebay (yes, I am an idiot). They say it has been reset, however, I can't access the computer because it still has the previous owners name and login and they haven't sent me the info to get into it or to reset it. I have been able to get it into recovery mode - but can't access anything to change the password. Please help! [link] [comments] |
Butterfly spacebar key stuck (need help) Posted: 16 Jan 2018 05:47 PM PST So, I made the mistake of buying the newest late 2016 MacBook Pro and the space bar (and a couple of other keys) are stuck. With the spacebar obviously being a key I use often, I decided to take a peek underneath it to see if I could clear up any dust on it to help with the issue. Now I can't get it back on. I have yet to find a video on how to replace the spacebar for this particular keyboard type and apple support is useless considering I voided my warrantee as soon as a pried the key off. Is there anyone out there who knows of a good video/explanation on how to put it back on? Or what I should tell apple support to make it seem as if the button coming off was an accident and not have my warrantee voided. [link] [comments] |
FileStatsAgent log flood... Anyone seen this? Posted: 16 Jan 2018 09:24 PM PST System is running fine, however things like these annoy me, and I haven't found a solution yet. Curious if anyone here as run into this before. I think it's odd that it calls out the the Backup in the MobileSync folder. Neither user uses iTunes on this machine, nor has an iPhone/iPod ever been been connected or backed up. The few mentions I've found of this online seem to be more related to kernel panics and reboots, which isn't a problem for this system. <knock on wood> Other info... System is still on 10.11.5, and Spotlight has been disabled completely. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Dark horizontal lines flickering at top of display Posted: 16 Jan 2018 09:14 PM PST This flickering (https://imgur.com/a/t5V3x) started a couple months ago. Seems like it's slowly gotten darker, but hard to tell. It only happens after opening the lid of my computer after it's been closed for a while, and never lasts more than a minute or so. 13-inch MacBook Pro, late-2016 w/o Touch Bar, running macOS 10.13.2 [link] [comments] |

2017 4K iMac Won't Connect to Bluetooth After Sleep Posted: 16 Jan 2018 05:02 PM PST I'll keep it brief. The past few days my Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Keyboard will not reconnect to my 21.5" 4K iMac after resuming from sleep. I've tried connecting either device by the USB cable and it doesn't work. Only solution seems to be to force shutdown the iMac and reboot it in order to connect. I've searched online but nothing seems to be relevant. Looking for any advice. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
An iTunes folder keeps filling-up my C drive without stopping Posted: 16 Jan 2018 08:28 PM PST While using WinDirStat, I found out that the "Log" & "Backup" folder of "AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer" in my PC was the culprit why my C keeps on filling-up. Does anyone else experience this problem? [link] [comments] |
Should I turn off FileVault before I sell my MacBook? Posted: 16 Jan 2018 08:26 PM PST I bought a new MacBook recently, and am hoping to sell my 2013 Air. I'm signing out of all of my accounts, and realized that FileVault is enabled currently on my old MacBook. Should I disable it before erasing my hard drive? Also, are there any other steps to completely cleaning out my laptop before I sell it? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
mix and match ram in 2017 iMac? Posted: 16 Jan 2018 08:06 PM PST Can I mix and match ram in the 2017 iMac? Purchased with base ram package of 8GB - would like to possibly throw in two more 8 gig sticks... but that would put the ram config at 8-4-8-4 I can remember from the "old days" that matching everything was critical. But am unsure if that remains the case. Thank you [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Jan 2018 08:05 PM PST So basically I've been importing pics to my laptop for a few years now and my laptop still has a lot of storage. I tend to keep a LOT of photos on my phone, to a point where I hoard them. Right now I'm trying to import exactly 17437 photos onto my laptop, since my iphone 7+ is full of storage (128 gb). What happens is that it gathers all my photos and gives me an option to start importing, and when I agree it just crashes and says my files might not have imported. How can I fix this? Unlock an iPhone with no help from owner Posted: 16 Jan 2018 08:01 PM PST This is gonna sound dumb probably, and like I'm trying to so illegal things but I'm getting a little desperate here. My BIL (brother in law) is.. incapacitated and locked himself out of his phone until he plugs it into iTunes. Except, we can't get into his iTunes because he doesnt know his password. He agitated and so are we. Do we have to go into an apple store? There isn't one in our city so if that's avoidable that's best. Is there a way into the phone someone who is good at electronics but not a genius could figure out? Like I'm computer literate but not any computer science or anything. Anything would help. MacBookAir won’t turn on - tried all google-able avenues Posted: 16 Jan 2018 03:31 PM PST Woke up and went to turn my laptop on. Knew it had some charge as I was using it last night. Would not turn on, no sound or motor sounds coming from it. Plugged the charger in and comes up with orange "charging" light. I have tried the SMC restart (shift option control + power). When I release these buttons after 15 seconds, the charging light flicks to green and then back to orange again, so it seems to be registering that ? Please help I have 4 exams next week and a very important assignment on there. [link] [comments] |
iCloud Music Library / iTunes Match Sync Help Posted: 16 Jan 2018 06:47 PM PST Hey, here's a doozy. So my phone only recently started updating its library reeeeaaaallly slowly. Like maybe taking 6 or 7 hours to update. Doesn't matter if I add something to the library with my computer through Apple Music or locally, it'll take forever. The funny thing is that if I add something to my library with my phone, my computer gets it in a matter of seconds, so the connection is there. My iPad also updates really quickly, so it's just the receiving end of my phone. For some context, it's an iPhone 7 and I've had no other issues except for this in the past I've also turned iCloud Music Library on and off on my phone, which used to help, but now all it did was make me have to redownload all my music. Any help would be super appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Wiping MAC entirely but there's disk1 and OS X Base System? Posted: 16 Jan 2018 06:14 PM PST I preface this question by apologizing for the lack of usage of technical jargon. I've erased The 500.28 GB Apple SSD SM0512 Media and the Untitled disk nested underneath it. Can someone shed light if there's a need to erase disk1 and OS X Base System to achieve a complete wipe of the Mac? Thank you! Edit: Trying to add a screenshot of what I'm looking at - is there a way to attach an image to this post? [link] [comments] |
Ruined girlfriends Mac. Boot Loop screen lead to erased HDD, how to recover from this? Posted: 16 Jan 2018 06:10 PM PST I suck at mac products. This is my girlfriend's and I think I just ruined it for her and she is devastated because I think all of her personal files (since from 2012) are gone WHILE she was trying to do a back up for them... We had an argument over this because she is very protective of her computer and I was the one who was in charge when everything went down hill.
We were trying to back up things on iTunes/iPhoneand we got this sudden Thunderbolt Update request. It was working incredibly slow so I thought it would be a good idea to get it out of the system. Once I accepted the installation, the mac restarted and the loading screen came but it got stuck at this infamous boot loop screen. I had to force shut down the computer. Same boot loop screen came back. Then I figured out the recovery screen mode and entered there, I saw the disk utility and ran First Aid, it did scan and did nothing afterwards. I basically followed this guide. I couldn't get any recovery procedure. Then I restarted the computer again and I got these screen.
I looked into PhotoRec and TestDisk but I have zero experience and have no idea if they can be used at this point.
She wants to take it to an Apple store to get "experts" opinion but I really don't see any use. What do you think? I could really use some help right now. [link] [comments] |
Access photos in the System Photo Library Posted: 16 Jan 2018 02:15 PM PST Is it normal that I can't access the photos stored in the System Photo Library unless I use the Photos app? For example, if I'm on the facebook website in Safari and I want to upload a photo. It brings up the finder window, I select Pictures from the left, I can see photo library, but it's grayed out and I can't select it. I end up having to open the Photos app and export the photos to my desktop, upload them, then delete them. I'm a new Mac user, but this seems the wrong way to go about it? I'm on High Sierra. I only have one photo library and it is correctly set to be the System Photo Library. It's linked to iCloud and is behaving and syncing correctly. [link] [comments] |
Best way/app to record audio from web to use when offline? Posted: 16 Jan 2018 11:51 AM PST I'm in the middle of taking an online course that has several 1 hour lectures online; my issue is that when I'm able to listen I'm often in a basement with little to no internet connectivity. Is there an app or method that I can use to record the content of the lectures to an audio file of some kind and the have them for personal use whenever I want them? I'd prefer to use something more effective than "Run the audio/lecture in a quiet room and have your iPhone/iPad recording it". I'm hoping there is a way to record the audio straight onto my phone bypassing the speakers (I think? Does that even make sense?). Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Help getting ethernet through Belkin Thunderbolt Dock with Macbook Air. Posted: 16 Jan 2018 01:31 PM PST I've been trying to get this to work all day and cannot get it sorted, so I'm looking for some help for this specific situation. I have a 2012 Macbook Air 13" and have been running just a Thunderbolt-Ethernet adapter to use the internet at work. Wanting to expand my connection ability to run an external display I got a Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock to run a second display via Thunderbolt-HDMI cable, and plug in the ethernet to the dock as well so through my single Thunderbolt port on my laptop I can run the display and get my internet signal. Today I hooked everything up and am able to run the display just fine with zero issues, however there is no internet signal coming through. The dock light does green showing good connection with data flow, but I'm getting no connection on my computer. To complicate this some, I am not running OSX on my laptop, I'm running Bootcamp for work with Win7. I've searched and seen little information on this particular problem online but did find that one cause would be a missing driver(I'm not concerned with working USB ports currently, but did install the driver for that), so I downloaded the Broadcom netxtreme gigabit ethernet controller 2 driver and unpacked it, but when I go to add that driver in my Device Manager, it said it is installed but cannot run becuase of error 31(Windows cannot load the driver). That is where I am currently stuck, and would love any assistance I can get! Thank you! [link] [comments] |
