Prime Video, the TV app, and you. Posted: 06 Dec 2017 09:08 AM PST I've been testing the new Prime Video app (its finally Oct. 26th!) along with its functionality with the Apple TV app and wanted to post this for everyone coming to this subreddit looking for answers. Any other questions feel free to ask and I'll test it out. I have the Apple TV 4K and 3rd generation. /The Prime Video app is FINALLY here, if you can't find it through search in the App Store, either ask Siri or find the Amazon shopping app, scroll down, then you'll see it. I'm sure the App Store is still being updated. On the 3rd generation, for some reason at first start up it didn't show up in the App Menu in settings but restarting the device some how made the app appear by itself on the home screen. Again, I think Apple is still rolling it out to devices so either try your luck by restarting the device or wait a bit longer. /The app itself is just a rehash of all the Amazon Prime Video apps on other devices. It looks exactly the same. Nothing special about the app itself. /Prime Video does support the TV app. If you're on your phone hoping to get that notification to add the app to populate your Up Next, you won't. As with every new app that supports the TV app, you actually have to search for something in the TV app that happens to be also on the Prime Video app. Once you play it, THEN it'll ask you to add it to the list. OR just download the app on the Apple TV and it'll automatically add itself to the list. Again it's weird how they do it but you will get the notification to add some way or another. /Prime Video DOES support 4K and HDR BUT their way of having two versions of the show or movie, one in 4K and one not, is archaic. I have no idea why amazon does it this way, it's just annoying. BUT TV app to the rescue. When you watch something on the TV app, it automatically picks the 4K version of the show or movie on Amazon so you don't have to worry about if you're watching the 4K version or not. It's nice that the TV app does this. To see if you're watching the 4K version, once you're actually watching the show or movies, scroll down and look at two things; 1. The 4K badge that we all know and love or 2. Look at the album artwork of the show/movie, Amazon puts a massive black banner that says UHD on the cover. I tested this with multiple movies and tv shows and it just works. Awesome. /The TV app actually also supports Amazon channels. If you signed up for one of the many Amazon channel subscriptions (HBO, CINEMAX, STARZ, Shudder, Tribeca List, etc) the TV app actually shows you the content from those channels as if they were part of the Prime app. This is HUGE because some of the apps of the channels don't have an Apple TV app or they don't support the TV app. Best example being Cinemax. There isn't a Cinemax app on many devices. Max Go is old but again the Apple TV doesn't have it. Now with the TV app you can watch all the Cinemax shows if you signed up through amazon channels. Yes, you can subscribe to Cinemax through various OTT services like Hulu but none of them let you use the TV app to watch the Cinemax shows/Movies. Just something interesting I noticed. /At the time of posting this (Dec 6th), the Prime Video app DOESN'T support 5.1 surround or anything above Stereo even though the TV app and the Prime Video app say they do. Might be a technical error on Amazon's part and hopefully they fix it soon) Hopefully this answers most of the big questions y'all will have. Let me know if you want me to test something out or post something that you've noticed or doesn't work. Edit: numbering in this post for some reason is showing up weird. I tried fixing it but still messed up oh well. UPDATE 1. If you purchases through Amazon DO NOT show up on the TV app. For movies you can connect your accounts to Movies Anywhere by for tv shows you'll have to go straight into the Prime Video app. Live Streaming inside the Prime Video app does show up in the TV app. I believe the biggest test will be for the Thursday Night football game. Let's wait and see how that works outs for both apps. UPDATE 2. Dolby Vision doesn't work, yet. HDR10 is the only HDR working for me right now at least even though some shows and movies do support DV on Amazon. You can NOT buy or rent tv shows and movies with this app. That's why it's named Prime Video not Amazon Video. You can still watch movies you buy and rent online through the app but the app mainly focuses on Prime. [link] [comments]
TV App - Sports tab compatibility Posted: 06 Dec 2017 07:24 PM PST Does anyone know where I could find a list of apps compatible with the Sports tab of the TV App? I can't locate it on the Apple website. So far, I know ESPN, NBA League Pass, and Amazon Video (for TNF) are compatible. Also that Fox Sports Go and NBC Sports are not. Anyone know others? TV App for UK - obsessive thread Posted: 06 Dec 2017 03:04 PM PST So ... now that amazon, itv, My5 has dropped. When do my UK colleagues think the TV all will drop? Do you think the iPlayer will get updated first? (It was in the backdrop slide along with the others at WWDC) It's the last thing I'm waiting for (apart from a channel 4 app of course ...) Is anyone else having issues with Hulu? Posted: 06 Dec 2017 04:50 PM PST I am trying to launch Hulu on Apple TV 3 and it says "Hulu is currently unavailable. Try again later" but Hulu is working on my iPhone and iPad. I have tried resetting both internet and Apple TV. [link] [comments]
ATV 3 Got Prime Video Today Too Posted: 06 Dec 2017 12:19 PM PST Just booted up the 3rd Gen to be greeted with Prime Video - that was unexpected! [link] [comments]
Why doesn't Vudu do HDR on ATV 4K? Posted: 06 Dec 2017 06:13 PM PST Because Vudu has been and remains almost exclusively a Dolby Vision service, I've had to first cast, then use Smartcast on my Vizio P65 to access my UHD content, since my SHIELD and XBOX are HDR10 only. Just got my ATV 4K last night and was shocked to see that despite its ability to do Dolby Vision and HDR10, none of my movies trigger HDR; they play in SDR. Yes, I have my box set to use DV and iTunes, Netflix and Amazon Prime titles play appropriately; only Vudu seems to be saying screw you. Wassupwitdat? [link] [comments]

Frustration! Can’t update Apple TV because “my Apple ID or password is incorrect” Posted: 06 Dec 2017 07:54 PM PST I was so excited to download the Amazon Video app, but it said I need to update to 11.1. When I tried to, it said that my "Apple ID or password is incorrect". I've tried signing out, signing back in, restarting, and power cycling. What do I do? [link] [comments]
Multiple MFi controller limit updated in recent tvOS version? Posted: 06 Dec 2017 11:15 PM PST Has anyone used more than two MFi controllers on the Apple TV? Apple's support site seems to say that you can connect the remote, Keyboard and four controllers. This seems to be updated from the previous max of two controllers that people reported? https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT205302 Does anyone have any experience with this? Does it introduce any lag or performance issues? Im thinking of picking up a few Steelseries Nimbus controllers to keep in the living room. Would four of them be just too much? Theres an extremely fun multiplayer (up to 4 people) game called Astro Duel. This would be amazing to play on the apple TV with 4 people. [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Dec 2017 10:49 PM PST Is anyone else having problems with audio/video sync with the new Amazon app? I have the ATV 4K running the beta version of iOS and the audio when using the new Amazon app is about half a second out of sync with the video. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling to no avail. I'm using a Sonos Playbase for sound with a Vizio M55-D0 television. Any suggestions on troubleshooting? [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Dec 2017 10:43 PM PST So I just got a VPN for my Mac mainly to watch movies. If I activate the VPN on the Mac and airplay the screen to my TV am I still protected? Sorry if this is a dumb question I'm fairly new to this stuff. Thanks. [link] [comments]

Amazon Prime Video: What to watch? Posted: 06 Dec 2017 04:52 PM PST Any good Amazon original series? I haven't really messed around around Amazon video content since Amazon Instant Video on the Roku years back. Edit: This thread needs more trailers, also please consider upvoting for visibility. Posted: 06 Dec 2017 07:04 PM PST Ok, so I have downloaded the app to my Apple TV (woohoo), and added the HBO channel through the website interface. Used to previously watch HBO through the HBO Now app. I can't seem to find the channel option on the Prime Video app. Any suggestions please. Watching from New Zealand via DNS. [link] [comments] |
