Apple’s Lightning to HDMI adapter not working with Netflix Posted: 06 Dec 2017 12:38 PM PST Anyone else have this issue with apple's adapter? It used to work fine but now only a Black screen shows up on the tv screen with audio but the video plays on the iOS device. I initially thought it might be an hdmi issue so I went out and bought a new one with the same result. Could it be a software issue (apple iOS or Netflix side?) or a hardware issue? Someone with GSX access help me check the Unlock/Lock Status of my iPhone. Posted: 06 Dec 2017 10:20 PM PST Recently lost my GSX access since I'm no longer with the premiere partner I was employed under. So, I'm wondering if anyone out there with GSX could help me look up my phones lock/unlock status since I just switched carriers and I'm worried they just locked my device. PM me if you can help, thank you [link] [comments] |
Programs refusing to open, other oddities Posted: 06 Dec 2017 10:18 PM PST For the past day and a half, my Mac has been going through a sharp decline. First, Microsoft office programs were running slow, and progressively got slower until they were unusable. Now, they refuse to open at all. And other programs are being affected as well. Skype, iWork, Discord, Firefox (in fact, I'm told that a different Firefox is already running) and I haven't closed Chrome in fear that it might be next. Discord tells me
So I wonder if that's an overarching issue, or if that's just Discord's generic way of telling me that stuff is not going right. Stranglely enough, in the About this Mac, all storage is listed as "other" rather than describing it as movies, music, movies, office documents... that seems concerning. On top of that, it says I have used 115.37 GBs, when I was pretty sure I had used into the 130s to 150s at that point. I'd give you guys screenshots, but now the computer is telling me I don't have permission to save them "where screenshots are stored," either. I'm running El Capitan on a Mid-2012 Pro. I bought used like two years ago now, and this is the first of any problems. I'm no master at this, that's why I'm here. Can anyone please offer any help? The simple stuff: I tried updating each of these programs as they failed, and the process would stop cold each time. I have restarted and turned off the computer several times. One time it was taking an abhorrent time to load (it wasn't frozen, it was getting progress, very slowly) so it got to the point where I had to force shut it off. Every other time since has been just a tad slower than normal. [link] [comments] |
iPhone X, does anyone get a random weird crackling noise when calling? Posted: 06 Dec 2017 06:27 PM PST I recently bought an iPhone X and it just started having the same exact problems as my old iPhone 6. For the most part, the call is normal, but on occasion, there is a crackling noise that prevents me from hearing the person talking, and whenever I try to talk, I can hear my own voice through the speaker. It also doesn't matter if I turn on speakerphone or not, it will happen and I have to continue to recall until the problem stops. My carrier is AT&T and I have the iPhone X 64 gb. [link] [comments] |
After latest High Sierra update, Finder do ant open, apps can’t be accessed! Posted: 06 Dec 2017 09:50 PM PST So, updated last night, didn't really get a chance to use the computer. Fired it up this morning and, yeah, nothing works. Like, it turns on, I get the usual Apple logo to load, and type in my password. It goes to the desktop and...can't do anything. The top bar doesn't load, the icons at the bottom are all there on the Dock but Finder isn't default loaded as usual. What the hell can I do? P.S. - when I tried Safe Mode, it was the same. When I tried clicking the finder it told me: "The application finder can't be opened." Argh! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Dec 2017 09:35 PM PST I just wanted to know, is it bad if I keep my phone on low power mode? Does it harm the battery? [link] [comments] |
Accidentally deleted my HD and now Apple No Symbol Posted: 06 Dec 2017 05:33 PM PST So I was trying to factory reset my HD and accidentally deleted it! Now it shows No Symbol and when I go to Disk Utility no HD and not sure where to go from there. Any help would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Maps stops giving directions prematurely since iOS 11.2 Posted: 06 Dec 2017 03:56 PM PST Before I submit a bug report to Apple, I wanted to see if anyone else was seeing this. I use my phone for live traffic updates on my commute to and from work. On both drives today, the maps app crashed and I was returned to the lock screen widgets about half a mile away from my destination. Obviously, I know how to get to work and home from half a mile out, but there were still some turns left on the route, and if I had been going somewhere I wasn't familiar with, that's most likely when I need the map the most to find out where I'm supposed to end up. Cannot format external HD with exFat option. Posted: 06 Dec 2017 07:29 PM PST I've done this before as I frequently go back and forth between Mac and PC. I have a new HD that I am trying to reformat but disk utility is not giving me an exfat option. Very frustrating! Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
I bought an IPOD to read free ibooks but I find out that Ibooks store is not availabe in my country. Posted: 06 Dec 2017 07:04 PM PST Is there a way to download free ibooks and transfer them to my Ipod through itunes? I want to be able to download the free ibooks listed on http://www.radiologyebooks.com/. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Dec 2017 06:45 PM PST On my phone when I got to storage it says I have 7.84GB of "system" which is in resulting to only .8mb of storage remaining on my phone free. However I plugged my iPhone into my PC today and I noticed it says on iTunes I have 5.60GB of free storage. How do I fix this. Kinda sucks only have 5 apps and never enough storage to take pictures. Confused with Icloud for Windows Posted: 06 Dec 2017 06:44 PM PST Hi All, I just started using Icloud recently and have uploaded my 4000 plus photos there. I would like my Icloud photo library to automatically sync all photos to a folder on my second hard drive (storage E: drive). I have gone into the settings of Icloud for windows and changed the download folder to be the specific folder on my E: drive. The only pictures that are downloading there are pictures I specifically push there. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |

Help with quicktime and an interface Posted: 06 Dec 2017 06:06 PM PST Hi, I'm stumped. I'm using a brand new MacBook Air and trying to record simple videos of me playing guitar and singing. Here's my setup. My Mic is going into channel 1 of a Fishman Loudbox artist amp. My guitar is going into channel 2. I then have an xlr cable running out of the mix out into an M-audio fasttrack pro interface into one mono channel. With Garageband and Logic I'm given the option to select input 1,2, or both when recording a track so for example, I select input 2 and it records both my mic and guitar on one track which will playback on both my left and right monitors. If I try this with quicktime there isn't an option to select the input on system preferences or within quicktime and it seems to default to using both inputs of the fasttrack, causing me to get sound out of only one speaker on playback. I haven't been able to find a workaround online for this that works. Some had suggested using the old QuickTime 7 Pro which I tried but still got the same results. I had read to try sound flower but I didn't install that because there were a lot of bad reviews including some saying the download had malware. I'm thinking if I buy an xlr female to dual male splitter and actually use both inputs of the fasttrack this should solve the problem but I'm really wondering if there is an easy software solution for this with having to buy anything. I appreciate any advice on this! [link] [comments] |
Safari - sorting bookmarks - folders keep auto-opening. How to stop? Posted: 06 Dec 2017 05:50 PM PST MacOS High Sierra. Safari. 200+ bookmarks in one folder. Created 5 new folders to sort with. Every time I drag a bookmark to the new folder it opens up the new folder. This makes sorting very hard as the window jumps around as bookmarks are moved. Is there anyway to stop the bookmark folders from auto-opening? [link] [comments] |
How can I connect all of my USB-C devices to my MacBook Pro with only two ports? Posted: 06 Dec 2017 05:40 PM PST I recently bought a 13 inch MacBook Pro without a TouchBar, so it only has two USB-C ports. No biggy, I thought, I'd rather put a USB-C-hub on my desktop than upgrade to a more expensive model with TouchBar just to have some more ports. Like anyone, I wasn't too happy about having to use a lot of dongles, so I thought - let's embrace the future and go USB-C all the way! In anticipation of the arrival of my new MacBook, I bought a new display with a USB-C cable, a USB-C to Ethernet adapter, a USB-C to regular USB hub and an external hard drive with a USB-C connection. I knew I wouldn't be able to connect them all to my MacBook directly at the same time, but there's not always a need for everything at the same time, and on my desktop I'd simply put a USB-C to USB-C hub to be able to connect everything at once. Turns out; there are no USB-C to USB-C hubs, like the good old-fashioned multi-port USB hubs we all know. So I'm basically screwed: I need the two ports I have for charging and for my display, and that's all I get! If I need to connect an external HDD for a back-up, I need to get rid of the external display (which sucks for obvious reasons) or of the charging cable (which puts more strain on my battery and doesn't allow me to let things run for a long time without my presence). The only solution to this problem I have found is to buy one big USB-C dongle that gives me back old-fashioned USB ports and an HDMI connection, and use those instead of USB-C directly. There are USB-C dongles that have more than one USB-C connection, but they either don't support power (which means I still can't charge my MacBook through them), or they use both USB-C ports on my MacBook, giving me zero more ports than I already had. So, I'm forced to keep using the 'old' connections to be able to connect everything to my MacBook at the same time - while I was so ready to embrace USB-C completely. This seems completely backwards to me! Am I just too early, and are there good pure USB-C hubs on the way? Or is there a technical reason why these things can't exist? Surely there are more people like me out there - how did you solve this issue? Am I missing something obvious here? I am curious to hear your thoughts! [link] [comments] |
11.2 Unable to play videos, podcast, and other media Posted: 06 Dec 2017 05:22 PM PST I just updated to iOS 11.2. I already love Apple Pay cash. But I am having a problem playing most videos, all podcasts, and other media. I'll click play, and it just won't play. However, music works fine. [link] [comments] |
Broken Imac, don't know what to do next...Need help! Posted: 06 Dec 2017 05:11 PM PST So i am in quite a precarious situation. My 27 inch Imac (late 2014) was knocked down off my desk, and the glass screen shattered. This happened several months ago, however, because i was busy, i didn't go to apple straight away to deal with it. After the break took place, my girlfriend decided to update my software, and for whatever reason, the computer completely failed and would no longer turn on. I suspected that it was just a software problem, but when i went in, the genius advised me that the hard drive was "failing". He didn't really elaborate on what that really meant, all he said was that it would need to be replaced (he estimated that it would cost a hundred and something dollars). When he looked at the screen, before even investigating any further, he advised me that it really wouldn't make any sense to put any money into repairing the computer as a replacement screen (the glass piece) would cost well over 500 dollars. That and the cost of the work, and the cost of the replacement hard drive would end up being well over 900 dollars, something i of course cannot afford given that i am student. Is there anything i can do? I have heard stories of genius' being sympathetic and opting to fix screens and such for free, but unfortunately that didn't happen with me. Is there anything else i can do? Or am i completely screwed and out a computer. Any advice would certainly help and be appreciated. If any current or former apple staff could chime in on this, i would definitely appreciate your guidance. I have absolutely no idea what to do, and it's extremely upsetting as i use this computer exclusively for all my work. Any help would be really appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Dec 2017 05:00 PM PST Hey all, My apologies if I am posting this in the wrong place. I'm looking to upgrade my computer, coming from a base model 13 inch 2012 macbook pro. I currently am considering a 2016 15 inch model with the touchbar, but am also open to a 2017 13 inch model. I'm a sophomore marketing major, and I use the computer for basic work and entertainment, with occasional use of parallels for windows 10 applications. I also occasionally use graphic design and video editing softwares. There is a fantastic deal on B&H for the 2016 15 inch, and i love the idea of the quad core CPU and Radeon graphics card, and the obvious bigger screen. However, I'm worried about the common complaints of keyboard and battery issues on the 2016 models. If anyone could give me some recommendations as to which model to buy, and what to expect with these computers, it would be highly appreciated. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Dec 2017 04:56 PM PST Does anyone know why is my controller flashing only 3 every time I turn it on? I'm unable to do anything afterwards, can't pair it, can't turn it on again, nothing. LEDs won't blink afterwards and the controller is unresponsive. Only after reinstalling batteries I can turn it on the controller kind of, but to only see the LEDs flash three times and its over all over again. Is it just a faulty controller? I only recently found out the company has gone bankrupt and theres no available support from them obviously so I'm almot out of luck here. I only got to pair it with my iPhone 6S Plus which is on iOS11, but then I tried to pair it with iPad Pro instead, so I had to go to Bluetooth settings and make the phone 'forget the device'. Ever since the problem started occuring and now I'm stuck here. Tried new batteries, nothing works. Lovely. [link] [comments] |
Shared note won't open on my phone Posted: 06 Dec 2017 04:55 PM PST Hi there! I have been added to a shared note, but it won't open on my IPhone 6. It says retrieving, then switches to the notes app and then pops up saying it cannot open at this time. Any help? We've tried sending it to my phone number and to my icloud email but nothing seems to be working. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Letter "I" appearing weirdly in iMessage on MacOS Posted: 06 Dec 2017 03:53 PM PST Whenever someone sends me the word "I" in iMessage, it shows up as a capital letter A followed by some lines. Here is what that looks like, again both the A and the lines should be "I", I've seen screenshots of my friend's devices and when they send it they see just a normal letter I. Edit: Update: I have found a friend who also has this problem, so it isn't unique to my device. [link] [comments] |
MacBook Air SSD doesn't work after High Sierra Posted: 06 Dec 2017 11:29 AM PST I work for a computer refurbisher/reseller and we've had a sizable number of customers with MacBook Airs that completely stop working after being updated to High Sierra. They just hang after the startup chime, won't respond to any key, recovery, diagnostics, target disk mode. SMC and PRAM resets don't change anything. If we swap out the drive the computer works perfectly fine and the drive we took out isn't detected in an USB enclosure. Does anybody have any suggestions on what else we could try? Could the update be somehow frying the SSDs? These are the original Apple drives, not third-party replacements Tl,dr: 2014 MacBook air won't respond past startup chime after 10.13 update [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Dec 2017 02:20 PM PST Yesterday a coworker gave me an ipad. He told me simply that it just didn't work. The battery was dead, so I charged it up and powered it on. I soon found out it was a "lost" ipad. Most likely my co worker got scammed on Craigslist and just gave it to me. I googled the number on the ipad to try and find the original owner. I was able to find his name, then his Twitter, and lastly his facebook. (I don't have a Twitter) I facebook messaged the ipad owner to let him know I acquired his ipad and wanted to mail it back to him. He let me know that it was lost a long time ago and he already has a new one and that I can just keep it. I asked him if he could remove the device from his icloud/itunes account as lost or stolen so that I could associate it with my itunes. I havent recieved a conformation that he did via messanger yet. The iPad is data capable but doesn't have the SIM card. I'm kind of at a loss what to do next with this thing. If the owner did remove it from his itunes account thats great but the ipad has no way of knowing that without being conntected to the internet in some way. The owner has it password locked so I cant simply connect it to my Wi-Fi network. I havent tried restoring the device to factory yet and I'm not sure apple support will help me seeing as they probably get a lot of bs in this area of their product support. I dont want to pester the owner of the device or have him think I'm after his info but he did give it to me and id enjoy using this device. I just want to handle things properly and follow the correct channels. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Dec 2017 02:10 PM PST I have an iPhone 6S. Just today it started doing this thing where it would show me a black screen with the white loading wheel in the middle for a few seconds, then return me to the lock screen. It does this seemingly at random but I can't use any app for more than like 5 minutes. I tried turning it off and on, nothing. I tried letting the battery drain down to 0, then turn it back on, nothing. Can anyone help? [link] [comments] |
