Apple is accelerating its revenue past what anyone could ever have expected Posted: 02 Nov 2017 03:12 PM PDT 10 years ago Apple had 15 billion dollars in the bank and a single mega selling device: iPod. Mac was a small business and iPhone was barely released. Now with $269 billion in cash and a quarterly revenue between 40 and 80 billion, they keep accelerating past their supposed ceiling into a place no company has ever been. Growing this much when you are the richest company in the world should be impossible. Apple makes more money off of every category it is in than any of its competitors. Samsung, google, and Microsoft wish they could sell that many flagship phones, tablets, computers, and smart watches per quarter. And now Apple makes so much money from services, iPhone is finally shrinking to 55% of apples income. Remember when it was 70% and everyone expected Apple to go bankrupt because iPhone was sure to fall? And now, as I write this, journalists are searching for any negative they can find, when they can't, they will push news on small issues and make it sound world ending. If iPhone 8 is outselling any model before it, what does that mean for iPhone X? This will get me called a fanboy, I know, but the facts are here, and you can't argue with numbers. The reality is, millions of people around the world are buying Apple products and services in droves. Meanwhile google is shipping phones with tinted screens and no OS. Samsung is replacing their entire CEO board, and Microsoft is struggling to find relevance. While on a whole these competitors are fine, making money, they are no where near Apple level of success or demand. So why do people, journalists and nerds, still line up and try and declare Apple this awful terrible thing? The best part? Apple is able to do all this and still maintain my privacy and security. That can't be said of any other tech company. Rant done. Hope we can have some discussion on the topics I brought up. Thanks! Edit: over $900B on the stock market. $1trillion before end of year! Posted: 02 Nov 2017 09:57 PM PDT Take it all in! The series of events leading up to tomorrow have definitely been like no other iPhone launch! From an engineer's daughter posting a video, to the roller coaster that is Apple's supply chain, this is an iPhone launch to remember. We've all made it this far! What used to feel like months is now a matter of hours before we can all get our hands on the device. This subreddit has made these last couple of days more bearable and 10X more exciting ;) Cheers! Possibilities with FaceID - "For my eyes only"-Mode Posted: 02 Nov 2017 07:31 AM PDT With this current thread in mind I thought about some other ways FaceID could be usefull in the long run. I guess there is no doubt that FaceID will become the standard authentication method from iPhone to Mac in the next years. How cool would it be, if there was a "For my eyes only" mode. Right now we have a hidden photos folder in Photos, locked notes and maybe complex folder structures to hide some apps we dont want anyone to see. With FaceID it could be possible to assign a "For my eyes only"-Tag. As soon as FaceID notices someone else looking at the screen but me...say my buddy is scrolling through my photo library...iOS would immediatly hide all tagged items. Not even a placeholder, but completely gone. This could extend to contacts, chats, browser history, reminders, calenders etc. If they are not your eyes that are looking at the phone, there will be no information. You could let someone use your phone without the fear of them "accidentally" stumbeling on some nasty duck pics in the camera roll. [link] [comments] |

Shout out to those of us with "the new iPhone" for one more day Posted: 02 Nov 2017 10:48 AM PDT In a meeting this morning a coworker saw my 8+ and asked, "Is that the new iPhone?" I told him no, though technically it is...for one more day. No one's ever had "the new iPhone" for a shorter time than those of us who just got an 8 or 8+ several weeks ago. And now it's over. Feels like the time I got "the new iPad" (an iPad 3) only to see it replaced a few short months later. In that case I feel like I had a little right to be annoyed, since they replaced it much sooner than they had replaced a product before. This time I can't claim that, of course. And I don't regret buying the 8+ at all; it's awesome. So yeah, for the rest of today, I have the new iPhone. Those of you with an 8 or 8+, are you feeling envious of those who were patient and are getting an X tomorrow? I can honestly say I'm not bothered at all, though I do want to hold one and see how it feels. [link] [comments] |

YouTube kills your battery in 11.1 Posted: 02 Nov 2017 07:22 AM PDT It was mentioned here once before, but it's worth repeating: YouTube kills your battery extremely fast on 11.1 This happens when you're either casting or watching on screen. This is also the first time my iphone8 has gotten even remotely warm. Drain is at about 1% per 2-3 min. This does not happen when casting Netflix for example, so definitely a YouTube issue. Very unfortunate and I hope YouTube/Google rectifies this soon. [link] [comments] |
