    Apple Pay in 2017

    Posted: 25 Oct 2017 06:54 AM PDT

I get some ridiculous looks when I use Apple Pay in public, like at a fast food joint or grocery store, and I'm surprised I've never seen anyone use it in public since it's release. Anyone else us it regularly?

Midnight iPhone X on Apple upgrade program

    Posted: 25 Oct 2017 09:10 AM PDT

Does anyone have an idea of what the process will look like trying to purchase the X at midnight on the upgrade program? Does it take significantly longer than paying outright? Does it make you reserve in store to finish the process?

    Thanks

Switched from Note 5 to iPhone 8: My thoughts after several days

    Posted: 24 Oct 2017 12:24 PM PDT

    Hey /r/iPhone,

    I made the switch.

I switched from a Note 5 to a Space Grey iPhone 8 and I have a few thoughts so far:

    1. Even without USB-C fast charging, it charges fast I haven't used the USB-C fast charging yet, and I've still been impressed with this things charging time. I'm not sure if it's because I came from a phone with a 3,000mh battery, but this phones battery fills up ridiculously fast.

    2. It feels more adult / professional I don't know if it's the lack of over saturated colours, or just general OS aesthetic, but iPhones just feel more "grown up". I have no idea how to quantify it, but it just feels more professional.

    3. The build quality is insane This phone is absolutely solid feeling. I'm skeptical about how well the glass will hold up over time, but right now the phone just feels like no space was wasted.

    4. The camera is subtly amazing After reading reviews I thought the camera would only be a slight upgrade from other phones on the market, but from my use so far it's been subtly amazing. I say subtly because it's not like it has a crazy zoom feature like the note 8, amazing "machine learning" like the pixel, crazy colour saturation like an s8, or an assload of manual features like a V30. I just pick it up and snap a photo and it turns out really nice and really natural looking.

    5. Why no number keys? Coming form Android I miss having the number keys above the keyboard. Even with third party keyboards like Gboard I can't seem to find a way to make the numbers show up with the text. C'est la vie.

    6. Beautiful without being flashy I spent a lot of time considering the S8, V30, and iPhone X or other beautiful all-screen phones, but honestly, I feel like the bezel is better. I'm not scared about losing an entire screen to one little tumble, nor am I anywhere near as concerned about this phone going missing if I turn my head for a moment. It's less flashy, yet still beautiful.

    7. Life is easier in the eco system So far I have transferred a bunch of photos to my girlfriend through AirDrop, sent a tonne of bouncy photos through iMessage and connected to my W1 having Beats X with ease. Not only is the ecosystem easy on the software side, but hardware as well. Whether out in public, in the office, at school, or at a friends house It is significantly easier to find a lightning cable then a microUSB or even USB-C cable. Accessories in general have been significantly easier to find with this phone.

    8. I feels weird not having a brick in my pocket My first smartphone was the iPhone 5c. At the time I thought it was entirely too small, so when it came time to upgrade I went with the polar opposite: a massive Note 5. At first everything was great; I could see every detail in my Instagram feed and YouTube videos felt far more enjoyable to watch. Then over time the reality of having a tablet sized phone set in. It was impossible to not be aware it was in my pocket at all times. With the iPhone 8 it just feels natural in my pocket.

Overall, I'm really happy with this switch. I wasn't sure if I would keep this phone when I first purchased it as I was having a hard time justifying such seemingly underwhelming upgrade. After using it for a few days I've found that it's improvements are very subtle but absolutely amazing. Needless to say, I now have no intention of returning it.

Getting Started with Reminder/To-do apps, but a few questions

    Posted: 25 Oct 2017 09:04 AM PDT

So I've been forgetting a lot of things recently and making a lot of mistakes. I feel as though my cognitive function is decreasing so I'm looking for apps that can remind me to do things daily, but will also keep notifications.

What I mean by this is that even after I unlock my device, the reminder will still persist on my lock screen so that I can constantly be reminded.

Are there any apps that can do this? I've never used any of the kinds of apps (including calendar apps)

Will using 'Move to iOS' delete the data from my Android?

    Posted: 25 Oct 2017 08:59 AM PDT

    Hello,

I just got me a brand new iPhone 6S after years of using HTC Desire. I went on to set up the iPhone and decided to go for the Move from Android option. My only concern is, will using this method delete all the messages, accounts, contacts etc or whatever I decide to transfer over? I'm not keen on having that data deleted from the Android phone as I wish to continue using it alongside my iPhone.

    Many thanks

As an Android/Galaxy phone user, just thank you guys.

    Posted: 25 Oct 2017 10:17 AM PDT

Someone posted over in /r/Android about that community being toxic and I really agree. Usually having options can be good, but sometimes not so much, because I think there are TOO many android OEM fanboys that will fight you at a moments notice if you say even the slightest thing bad about their phone/company, causing phone wars and just whining in general.

Now I know those kind of people are everywhere, even here, but I've had had some of the better android (and just mobile in general) conversations I've had on reddit in /r/Apple.

I'm an Android guy and don't plan on changing anytime soon, but still like to come here a lot to talk phones, compare features and apps.

    Keep being awesome /r/Apple

Bought SE from Walmart, locked to Straight Talk

    Posted: 25 Oct 2017 10:03 AM PDT

    Hi,

I bought my wife an iPhone SE on sale at walmart for about $130 after being assured by the internet that I could use it on AT&T.

Turns out it's LOCKED to Straight Talk. Does anyone know anything about getting Straight Talk to unlock the phone, or have any other ideas on how to get this working with AT&T? The radios are all compatible, it's just the locking issue.

    Thanks.

    Favorite iPhone wallet case?

    Posted: 25 Oct 2017 09:32 AM PDT

I'm trying to find one I like for the iPhone X. I've used Silk in the past, and I like it enough, although it does feel a little bulky.

Anyone use any wallet cases in the past they are particularly fond of?

Apppe store iPhone X pre order can’t come unlocked?

    Posted: 25 Oct 2017 08:54 AM PDT

When I try to favorite my X so when it comes time to pre order tomorrow night I'll be able to grab it quick I can't choose it to be unlocked? For buying an iPhone 8 there is a sim free option. Any clue how to grab the new X unlocked?
