I'm a long-time Windows and Linux user. I'm thinking of switching to MacOS. Is the transition easy to MacOS and how long till I'm using it efficiently? I would like to hit the ground running, is there a way to learn it before purchasing? I'm experienced using the Linux Terminal.

Ethernet does not work with USB generic Ethernet HUB.

Does anyone experienced the same problem?

For 24 hrs, I've tried to mimic the top 7-8 troubleshooting suggestions from popular help articles online.. I have a little more info now but - when combined with my lack of understanding - I'm more confused than ever.

Here's some stuff that happened that I hope helps:

• Won't start in safe mode or recovery mode. WILL start in Internet Recovery. However, there's not enough disk space to install OS. Tried from bootable USB install too but had same space issue, of course. Reset pram/smc. Switched power chords..

•my fusion drive is only 2tb, so I'm confused as to what the more random disk space numbers I'm seeing in disk utility mean. Also, ss of the only first aid run that failed.

My lack of backing up my internal HD somewhat mirrors my lack of passion to retain those files. If the effort and likelihood of retaining/recovering them is within reason, hey that'd be fantastic. But my main concern is getting up and running again. And how I might go about that.

Any advice, judgements, questions or even insults would be maniacally appreciated. Thank you!

Dock freezes after changing accent color in macOS Monterey 12.4?

I'm currently on the latest version of macOS Monterey and every time when I change my accent color in System Preferences, the dock freezes - it doesn't magnify when hovering over it, doesn't let you click anything on it, but everything else works - I can open and use apps from Spotlight. Only restarting the computer solves this.

It's been happening for about a month now (3-4 changes to the accent color lol) so it's been like this in 12.3 before I updated a week ago thinking it would fix it.

This is on an M1 Pro 16-inch MacBook Pro.

If anyone has experienced this or knows how to fix it, please let me know!

Tying to update 2012 MacBook - dmg file says not recognized - what do?

My laptop won't let me browse, so I figured I needed to update my OS - 10.8.5. So a page on apples site - https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211683 - gives links to click. I download El Capitan, but the dmg file won't open.

Should I try downloading a OS thats older than El Capitan and work my way up? Any other ideas?

M1 Air

I like to use atmos (and spatial) on my mac if paired with my airpods but I don't want it using dolby atmos (and altering the sound) when I'm using the macbook speakers. Is there a way to do this? I currently have dolby atmos as "Automatic." I don't want to set it to "off" because that turns it off for airpods as well.
