New versions of Tuxera NTFS - performance problem in my system Posted: 17 Mar 2022 09:53 AM PDT The 2019 version of Tuxera works perfect for me, but any later update (2020, 2021) leads me to bad disk performance (e.g., when using FreeFileSync for backups), so in both cases I had to revert back to the 2019 version (the performance was down very significantly). It is strange that the older version works better, as I assume newer versions are better and more appropriate for newer MacOS versions. Maybe there is something wrong in my environment, that causes problems with the new version? I am currently on Monterey, but I noticed the same with previous OS versions. Any tips are welcome. Migration from 1Password to MacOS 12.3 which now allows notes into Keychain Posted: 17 Mar 2022 11:04 AM PDT Since Apple opened up the Keychain app with a notes section, would it now be possible to migrate everything from 1Password to the Keychain? Using 1Password from before it became a cloud thing. [link] [comments]

Linking to a folder in the Notes app Posted: 17 Mar 2022 01:08 PM PDT Anyone know if it's possible to link to a specific Finder folder from a link in the body or header of a note in the Notes app? I tried the pathname but just get an error. [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Mar 2022 09:19 AM PDT I have an Automator workflow that I'd really like to click and activate on the right-hand side of my dock. Of course this is the space where favorite folders and files usually reside – not apps. I can convert the workflow to an application. Or open it in Shortcuts and use File > Add to Dock. But these methods place the item on the left-hand side with regular apps. Is there a way to trick the dock into accepting an app on the right side? Or is there a way to convert my workflow into a file type that will sit on the dock's right AND that will run when I click on it? Thank you! [link] [comments]

12.3 Safari breaks security keys? Posted: 17 Mar 2022 08:36 AM PDT Since updating to 12.3, any time I use a site where I use a hardware security key (Solo Tap), Safari gives me an option between using my iPhone/iPad or my key. When I select my key, Safari tells me to "insert and activate it". If the key is inserted, it lights up. Activating it does nothing. If the key is not inserted, inserting it does not light it up. Activating it does nothing. The cherry on top is that Safari becomes unusable at this point. The dialog is modal, and the cancel button does nothing. I can't even switch tabs. The only recourse is to force quit Safari. Anyone else experiencing this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Mar 2022 11:51 AM PDT In previous version of MacOS, enabling Do Not Disturb without the menu bar icon would cause the Date and Time to gray out. This was a convenient way to know DND was enabled at a glance without having to take up room in the menu bar with yet-another-menu-bar-icon. Is there a way to make this happen in Monetary? E.g. if any focus mode is enabled, the date / time grays out? Also, enabling or disabling any focus mode makes a banner notification appear. Is there any way to disable this notification? Suspected Virus/Malware, Browser Hijacker that Persists Posted: 17 Mar 2022 11:43 AM PDT Hey all, First time posting here but I've been experiencing some issues with my Macbook for several days. Browser keeps opening random tabs and although I have done scans which has actually removed some files. It still persists. I'm not sure what to do, and I'm nervous to use the Mac in case they are tracking passwords or any payment info. I have done all the general troubleshooting that google/other threads have recommended. Mac is up to date, chrome extensions all cleared etc. What is the best course of action here? I've never had a virus since owning a Mac. [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Mar 2022 07:47 AM PDT Hello, Is the IP of a sender that uses Apple mail client shown to the receiver? From what I know Gmail shows your IP when you send an email from a client, but hides it when you send it from its web interface. Thanks! [link] [comments]

MacOS issues as windows user - perhaps you can help me? Posted: 17 Mar 2022 11:17 AM PDT Recently I got myself a Macbook Pro 16 and would like to ask for help with some very basic stuff. To be honest, I expected a premium experience and the hardware does feel premium but just in the first half an hour of use I ran into issues that seem ridiculous to me: 1) Apparently, external monitors look wrong and blurry if it's "incorrect" ppi. I love my trusty 24' Dell full hd monitor. Never had an issue. Can't use it now - text looks all wrong and blurry. Googled it. Huge posts on reddit. Known issue for at least a year - no fix. Really? I can't use my monitor, apple? 2) I hate mouse acceleration. Can't turn it off on mac. There are solutions that supposedly work, some terminal commands. One worked. Until reboot. There is not permanent solution. Funny thing - I had 2009 macbook pro and remember it being an issue even then. Still no permanent solution? As a windows user, these are the things I took for granted. Because why would they exist? Full hd is the most used resolution for monitors in the world with market share of more than 50%. How come the PRO machine doesn't support it? Any cheap Chinese windows laptop will give a more crisp image. And the most rage infusing thing I read in apple communities is - "lol, just buy a new monitor". This is the epitome of consumer unfriendliness. Also, some little things that felt frustrating - you can't set mouse scroll to natural and touchpad scroll to opposite (the way it is standard in windows) at the same time without some side programs. Why? Also, mouse back and forward buttons don't work in finder without installing Logitech drivers. They do work in windows without bloatware. I used it for 2 hours, doing pretty much nothing but setting up things and MacOS feels SO unfinished and user unfriendly. And I don't think these are the things mac "just does differently". These are legit issues and lack of customization. Also, some stupid shit I must be missing - whenever I restart the laptop, Apple maps open. I quit the program fully. I check settings for "run on start up" - it's empty. Restart. Apple maps! And. I can't install side programs without going into settings and clicking allow in security section. I get it - this is for my safety. But how do I switch it off forever? Is there a way to minimize all windows at once? Like there is a button next to watch on windows? [link] [comments]
How to configure Al Dente for M1 Max MacBook? Posted: 17 Mar 2022 11:11 AM PDT Hello fellow Mac users. I am new to battery management and am wondering if someone can ELI5 how to use Al Dente with my MPB. I am confused to the meaning of Sail Mode? How do I set up Al Dente so that my charge never goes above X and falls below Y? And what is the optimal X and Y to prolong battery life? I've read some crazy stuff like people with year old laptops being on only 30 cycles, I'd like to get that kind of life mileage out of my battery! Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
How to count the number of words I type across my computer each day Posted: 17 Mar 2022 10:19 AM PDT For utterly no useful reason, I'd like to know how many words I type on my keyboard each day... across all apps. I know I can see how many words I typed in a Word doc, or I can figure out how to setup a service to count words I actively select inside this reddit post, for instance. But I don't care enough to be that active in the process. I want the lazy man's solution... install an app, let it report to me. Any ideas how? [link] [comments] |
