| Monterey upgrade failed and now have no boot drive Posted: 16 Feb 2022 01:06 AM PST I was doing a Monterey upgrade on a IMAC 2017 24". During the install process, the Mac reported that it could not find any hard drives and promptly died. A reboot failed, with the flashing drive indicating that there were no drives found. Internet recovery mode and I can see the drive is there, bit is not mounted and it will not mount. I have tried some data recovery software in demo mode and it shows that there is 300+gb data on the drive, including all the folders you would expect. So the data is there. I have used Disk Utility to create a disk image of the drive so now have a 1Tb DMG file on an external drive. I tried (on a different Mac) to open this DMG to try and see the contents and recover some of the data. However it will not open - it errors when trying. So I have 2 questions:
Note to add, I did try to use my Time Machine backup, but this also is messed up - despite showing a backdate of end Jan 2022, the restore is from 2015! Thanks [link] [comments] |

| 3rd Gen Airpods Connection Issues Posted: 15 Feb 2022 10:26 PM PST I got a pair of 3rd gen Airpods for Christmas, and they'd worked great so far. Yesterday, my left airpod wasn't connecting. I looked up a solution to see what I could do, and I saw a recommendation to do the reset with the button on the back. I forgot the airpods from my phone's bluetooth, made sure the case was charged, and held the button down for the reset. I have the blinking white light, but I do not get the pop up screen to connect them to my phone. I don't get a prompt to connect them from my bluetooth screen in settings either. My IOS is up to date as well, so I'm pretty much lost on what to do. Has anybody had a similar situation or perhaps know a different solution or order of steps to try? Thanks in advance. | 2FA sign in from a new iphone when your old phone is broken/lost Posted: 15 Feb 2022 08:47 PM PST When you try to sign in to your new phone it will send a text or a push notification to your old phone/number so you get stuck because you can't access the old phone for the verification. This becomes an issue if you have no other trusted devices so if you are reading this and HAVEN'T read this, please for the love of all that is good, associate another number with your apple-id! Im using google voice for this personally. All Answers I found online/on apple support/over the phone/Reddit told me that the only fix to this particular nightmare is account recovery which can take weeks. But I found another solution that works so I hope that it helps at least one other person. When starting up the new device, make a temporary apple-id. Then when you are in make sure that your new phone's sim is connected (your number works, you have to do this in-store or over the phone if you have the new SIM-ESN number.) Then, connect your old/regular apple id (for some reason this doesn't ask for 2FA. This registers the new device.) Once this new phone is one of the devices registered to your old/regular apple-id go to settings>general>Transfer or Reset iPhone>Erase all content and settings. This will factory reset the phone, except this time this new device has your phone number associated with it and your apple-id knows this device. login and it will prompt you for 2FA, chose the text option and even though no text shows up, you will move past this annoying AF issue. | Macbook internet stops working when iPhone is connected to it Posted: 16 Feb 2022 04:17 AM PST I have a 2018 Macbook Pro and when I connect my iPhone 12 Pro Max, the internet will not work. The wifi status still says it's connected but when I try to use Safari or Chrome, I get nothing. I used the Terminal to ping websites before and after connecting my phone, it will return the packets when the phone is disconnected but will not when the phone is plugged in. If my VPN is working when I plug in my phone, it'll state that the internet is disconnected, it'll "reconnect" and say it's connected but I still can't visit any webpage and all programs that use the internet no longer work. Everything works once I disconnect my phone from the Mac. I went into System Preferences > Network and made sure my phone wasn't listed above Wifi but it wasn't listed at all. | Two apple ids making my life miserable? Posted: 16 Feb 2022 03:51 AM PST I recently updated my apple id password, and now it will not let me log into messages on my iMac. The password is right, but it says there is an "unknown error". I found some suggestions to restart and reset Pram, so I did that. Still doesn't work. Then I tried to Sign Out of iMessage, but it just gets stuck on the sign out screen and never lets me sign out and sign back in. This is quite frustrating. One of the problems might be that I had another apple id with an old email address... and for whatever reason it pops up now and again... I have no idea why or how to eliminate the other id from my system. Anyway... would love some suggestions for iMessage to stop being frustrating! [link] [comments] |

| Posted: 16 Feb 2022 01:38 AM PST So a few weeks ago I bought an ipad pro 11" 2018 and couple days ago an apple pencil to accompany it as well. It synced right up and it worked perfectly - drawing, writing, pressure sensitivity, charging and everything was working alright. The problem started this morning when I tried to use my apple pencil and it didn't work. When attaching it to the side there's no pop up for charging or connecting. It doesn't even show up in Bluetooth... I tried everything from turning Bluetooth off and on, restarting, resetting network settings but nothing seems to work :( I read online that if the battery of the pencil hits 0 it dies but prior to this it was always on the side, charged up. | Battery issue MACBOOK pro 16” 2020 Posted: 15 Feb 2022 09:14 PM PST I've noticed lately my battery will steadily decrease even when my laptop is shut. This never happened before, I'd have my laptop stored for a week with no use and I'd still have around 10%. Now, seemingly overnight or a whole day, the whole battery runs out. I don't know why this is happening all of a sudden. I do have quite a lot of tabs open, but I've had them all open for a long time so nothing has really changed. Would appreciate any and all help. Thanks! Charged my laptop last night, unplugged this morning at 8am. I get home at 9pm go find it with 0% of battery. This just started happening out of no where. | Posted: 16 Feb 2022 12:56 AM PST hi guys, basically i got these airpods 2nd gen for christmas and today i woke up and the right airpod just decided to stop working completely. when i open the case (it doesn't show up at all, not even the case turning thing, like it does when you open it when only one airpod is in the case) the green light flashes when i put the airpod in the case and it doesn't show up in the batteries menu. i've reset the airpods multiple times but nothing is working, maybe it's some faulty wiring? thanks, im really stressing out!! | I can’t download the last compatible versions of apps. Posted: 16 Feb 2022 12:43 AM PST Hi, I'm using an iPhone 7 with iOS 13.4.1. I haven't updated cause I don't really like the new iOS looks so I just keep what I have. But some apps I can't use anymore because my version is expired and would need update 14.0 to run them. When I try go into the app store and click update it says that I cannot download the current version, but there's an option to download the last compatible version, so I click download on that but nothing happens. Is there any way to keep using the current app versions that I have now, or get the update for it without updating iOS? They were sealed, and I confirmed the serial number and they are authentic new AirPod Pros, my phone took me through the setup and everything. I am replacing my AirPod Pros that I lost, which I am seeing were software version 4C165. The ones I just got are 4A400 and the sound quality is very off. I hear a constant Bluetooth connection static sound when they're in my ear, and transparency doesn't seem to be working as well as my other ones. According to forums, this can be because of the software ? Is there anyone who can give me any input on this ? It's like the music is muffled, I've reset them already.
