Long-pressing an app should give an option to go to that app’s AppStore page

I feel like this would be a very useful shortcut for quick access to make a review or find current app version or any number of things.

Need Help Managing Elderly Parent’s Usage

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 08:39 AM PST

I am in a difficult position, and I need advice on the proper way to move forward.

I have recently become primary caregiver for my father (82), who was sent home on hospice with leukemia, and my mother (79), who has dementia. One is enough work, but handling both forces me to figure out efficient ways of managing the their situations. I really am at a loss of which way to proceed, but I'll throw this out there and look forward to you advice.

A few years back, my sister had the idea of giving them both iPads for Christmas. My brother and I didn't think they would use them, but now they're both addicted. Dad plays his videos way too loud because of his hearing loss and ont use his earbuds or Airpods that we bought him. Mom plays a lot of games, many with my daughter.

My mom has been a victim of these games that carry heavy advertising on them, and has purchased stuff when she had no idea what she was doing. As children, we would reach out to the vendors, cc companies, etc. to reverse charges and return the merch. Dad doesn't know what to do, so he leaves it to us to straighten it out. He has even gone so far as to cancel all her cc's and debit cards, so if she wants something, she has to ask him.

That would seem to have solved the issue, but she is now on multiple lists of telemarketers that send her countless text messages and phone calls. We are changing her number today. Any time we try to explain what trouble she is creating for herself (and us), she doesn't even remember doing it. Which leads me to the point of games and the App Store.

Mom needs ways to fill her time, so she plays a mix of games (Words, Solitare, Candy Crush, etc.). She has enough games that are littered with ads that she almost always clicks on and then she is asking for all sorts of personal information that she is giving out to strangers before we can "catch it".

I thought that adding her to my Family Sharing group and giving her access to my Arcade subscription would help. However, I though I might be able to put a parental control of sorts on her account, that would give me the opportunity to approve or deny any app downloads. I realize that if she ONLY uses Arcade games, then I have nothing to worry about; but if she is part of my family group, she can download other apps that cost money on my dime without having to ask for approval, because she is not a minor.

Do you guys have any suggestions on keeping her freedom to explore and play on her iPhone and iPad while giving me a way to monitor it, so that she doesn't do anything that she (or the rest of us) will regret later? I am at a loss. Thanks.

I'm not sure which sub to post this to, so I am cross posting it to other related subs.

    Important Notes Folder locked

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 08:46 AM PST

The one Notes folder I locked can't be opened with Face ID for some reason. I tried creating a new file, locking it and trying the Face ID and it worked. I tried changing and resetting the password, didn't work. I tried basically every pw I could think of with the hint and I still can't open it.

    "Recent" label on blocked contacts

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 05:35 AM PST

I just looked at some of the contacts I've blocked.

Several of them say "recent" next to the phone number.

One was blue when I opened it but changed to gray. The others were all gray.

Does this mean they've tried to message or call me?

    How long ago was "recent"?

    Any other insight?

    Thanks!

iPhone 13 - Bluetooth headphones volume randomly changes to 90% when reconnecting.

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 05:15 AM PST

iPhone 13 / iOS 15 keeps resetting the volume of my Bluetooth headphones to approx. 90% when reconnecting them. I never listen at that volume so I don't know where it's coming from. I've tried a couple of different Bluetooth headphones and they both exhibit the same behaviour. It's not consistent, sometimes the volume is as I last left it, sometimes it's not. Sometimes the volume shows as though it's as I last left it and then jumps to 90% as soon as a I press play. Anyone else having this problem? I've tried resetting the headphones and the phone.

    Software update fail to 15.1

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 07:28 AM PST

I keep getting software fail on install for 15.1. It hangs on 4 minutes remaining then says "Software Update Failed An error occurred downloading iOS 15.1".

I am connected to usual home network that usually works.

    I restarted the phone.

I even wiped the whole thing and restored from backup.

There is enough space on the iPhone.

Any browsers with a PROPER show desktop site feature?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 07:03 AM PST

I recently switched from android and I have some websites I need to access in desktop mode. They are designed responsively, so a simple user agent change such as what chrome and safari does won't do anything. On android, chrome emulates a larger screen size, which is the only way to get reliable display of desktop sites. I don't understand why it's not implemented in the iOS version, does anyone know of any browsers that DO implement this?

    Reminder notifications

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 06:04 AM PST

Has anyone else noticed that now if you have multiple reminders set to go off in a single day, instead of reminding you when a reminder is set for, it will instead give you a batch notification saying "These reminders are due today"? Like I know, remind me when it's due, not all at once! I have them set to specific times for a reason!

    App icons darkened in folders

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 02:04 AM PST

Are app icons supposed to darken when in a folder and only brighten up when you open that folder?

If not, is there a way to fix that?

Siri Announce stopping music and not continuing to play after?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 04:54 AM PST

Previously Siri would pause my music, read a text, and then my music would continue to play.

Now it seems Siri will pause my music, read a text, and the music never resumes.

    Did something change?

    iOS 15.1.1 SharePlay Problems?…

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 04:53 AM PST

Is anybody else having issues with Apple Music playing in SharePlay? It's constantly loading and never plays. Or it takes FOREVER! I'm not sure if this has been posted or not. But I reset my settings, and I just reset my iPhone and restored from backup and still having the same problem. None of this happened until I updated to 15.1.1 iPhone 13 Pro Max, 1TB if that matters. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

IOS 15 - Notifications on Lock Screen have stopped appearing.

    Posted: 22 Nov 2021 11:13 PM PST

I have absolutely no idea what happened or even if it's a bug, but for some reason the last few days I haven't been receiving any of the usual notifications on my phone running iOS 15.1. I've gone into the 'notifications' setting and all the apps have ALLOW NOTIFICATION turned on and all 3 have been selected. I've gone into 'focus' and DO NOT DISTURB is switch off.

I'm receiving WhatsApp notifications on the lock screen now but that didn't work either but I found a fix for that which involved having to download another app so I could then delete WhatsApp and install it again to receive notifications again.

Apps like Sky News, Reddit and a few other apps, I no longer receive anything unless I actually open the specific app like Reddit to see the notifications.

If this is a new setting by Apple to stop folks picking up their devices all the time I welcome that as an option, but allow the user to determine what notifications they would like to see without interruptions, if that is what it is of course.

Is there way to fix this and get my usual notifications appearing again on the lock screen?

Shortcut to enable/disable app specific data use?

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 02:27 AM PST

I'm trying to cutdown on data use by turning off cellular data for say 5 of my most used apps. But let's say I'm out and about and want to use one of those apps for a quick sec. I find it kind of annoying to have to enable the data for that app, then disable it after I'm done.

Is it possible to create an Apple Shortcut to enable data use for the selected apps, and a shortcut to disable data use for the selected apps?

iOS Safari missing tabs after iPhone upgrade / restore from backup

    Posted: 23 Nov 2021 01:39 AM PST

As the title says; after upgrading to my new iPhone (restored all data from iCloud backup) opened my Safari and to my surprise all the tabs are now gone. Where are they? What happened? How is this even possible? I've done this before and I had tabs there since 2017 that survived 3-4 iPhone upgrades/restores.. This is terrible. I've lost so much information.

Is there anything I can do?

    Thanks in advance

Apple Notes - Disable highlighted date and events

    Posted: 22 Nov 2021 08:42 PM PST

Every time i write a time or date in Notes it creates a yellow underline and pressing on it open a menu to create an event or a reminder. Is there a way to disable this feature?

I want to switch to Apple Notes to not use many different apps for notes, lists and simple brainstorming but this feature is really annoying, especially when it pops up in the middle of a sentence.

Looking for specific app that has branch mechanism

    Posted: 22 Nov 2021 11:48 PM PST

Does anybody know of a program that allows a branching mechanism such as when you click on a folder within the folder 7 other folders appear and when you click on one of those folders 7 more appear. Basically I'm looking for something that allows me to have a clickable button that expands into 7 other buttons which also individually expand into more buttons. I dont know how else to explain. It would be awesome if there was such an app! Any help much appreciated!
