    Tried updating my MacBook Air to Monterey like everyone else. Now my laptop is fried. Been crying all night, please tell me explain what I did wrong.

    I'm 19 and embarrassingly computer illiterate. I feel like every piece of technology blows up in my face. If I did something completely idiotic, please don't be mean to me, I just tried to follow everyone's instructions.

    I attempted to update my laptop to MacOS Monterey. Followed the same steps I would any normal update. I downloaded it. Then I hit install.

    It said it would take ~20 minutes so I passed time messing around on my phone. An hour went by and it was still stuck at what looked like 95% complete. Maybe I should've waited longer but I got nervous because it looked frozen. So I searched online "Monterey update frozen." A lot of people recommended going into safe mode.

    I had no idea wtf safe mode was. But it looked, well, safe, from how people described it so I followed the instructions. I pressed the power button so it would turn off and on again, and then I held down the shift key.

    Fuck.

    I don't know safe mode is supposed to look like, but this wasn't it.

    A gray screen appeared. After a few seconds it changed to a new screen. Idk what to call it but it's what you see when you get a new laptop. It asks for your preferred language and stuff like that. At this point I knew I messed up bad.

    I figured all my data was gone. But if it was just that, I wouldn't be THAT upset, as I didn't really have anything important on there anyway (and no, I don't have my laptop backed up, cuz I'm an idiot).

    The BIGGEST problem is that my cursor/trackpad isn't working so I can't even click on my preferred language/wifi/etc. to get my laptop set up again!!! I think my MacBook is genuinely fried. I don't truly know what that term means but if I were to guess what it means it would be the current predicament I find myself in.

    Can someone explain what went wrong? Preferably in "Explain Like I'm Five" terminology because I never understand the words tech-smart people use.

    I'm really upset because my parents bought me this laptop ~2 years ago and I'm too broke for a new one.

    I know an obvious answer is "call Apple" but I'm going to be humiliated if I find out from them that I made a mistake that only an 80-year-old grandma with dementia is capable of making, so I'm asking here first. Also not looking forward to explaining to them that I don't have my data backed up to Time Machine or iCloud or whatever people use. I don't know if it's because I have Asperger's (aren't we supposed to be good at this stuff?) but the simple act of backing up data is so confusing to me.

    Sorry this is so long. Thank you if you read this far. Please tell me what I did wrong!!!

    EDIT: So I left my laptop to sleep for a few hours and when I came back it asked me for my password and then went back to installing the update (still frozen). Hopefully this means my data is okay. I'm going to call Apple tomorrow and maybe bring my laptop into the Apple store.

    Hundreds of songs randomly “unavailable in my region”??

    Just set up child's new iPad using Quick Start with their iPhone in hand, iPad doesn't show any contacts nor iMessages, seems like something's not right...

    I'm not sure why there are no contacts on the new iPad and nothing in iMessage, I figured all of that stuff would have transferred over by now, I see the apps downloaded to match what's on the iPhone, but so much else has not and it has been over 2 hours...

    Also strangely when I click her iCloud account name and in the section where it shows the devices linked under that Apple ID it calls her new iPad "xyz's iPhone" which is the same name as her iPhone, at the beginning of the process it said xyz's iPad But now I checked again about 40 minutes later and there are two devices listed both calling themselves iPhones even though right below in small writing one says iPad and one says iPhone...

    I originally had thought about doing an iTunes backup of her iPhone onto a PC and then plugging in the factory fresh iPad and restoring directly from the PC iTunes iPhone profile but I decided to try the quick start, did I do something wrong I followed all the steps and there weren't even a lot of steps it was quite straightforward...

    I updated to IOS 15.1 on my iphone8 ever since i updated; my phone data hasn’t been working. I can go on fine with wifi, i also still have a lot of data. I restarted my phone/airplane mode already. Nothing is working. Is there a way for me to fix it? Thank you!

    Do I actually need to be a teacher when signing up at Apple Teacher. Because I have to write down „my" schools name and location, but I haven't one and only want to get Apple Teacher.

    Unable to sign into iTunes Windows11

    I opened up iTunes on my windows computer, and I was signed out. It prompted me to sign in so I can start listening to my music, but it gave me an infinite loop of having to sign in. When I pressed cancel, and tried to authorize the computer (it was already authorized), it accepted my credentials, but I would then be prompted with a popup that said "There was a temporary problem completing your request. An unknown error occured (1001)."

    MacBook Air '19 running Monterey 12.0.1- Ethernet not connecting

    New issue I discovered over the last few weeks. Whenever I connect my computer to ethernet via USB adapter or USB-C dock, I cannot connect to ethernet. I have no issues with Wi-Fi and my internet connection has been troubleshot with IP provider. Ethernet works on my company laptop (Dell Inspiron) and my wife's computer (Surface Laptop) through the same dock connector as my Mac.

    Before I summon apple support or the Genius Bar, has anyone else dealt with this or have any idea where to start?

    Iphone 11 disabled even though my passcode is correct! Need advice PLZ!

    I have an iPhone 11 and in the morning my phone would not unlock even though it has been the same passcode that I have been using. Now there is a logo saying "connect to iTunes". I plugged my phone into my computer, and it won't connect to iTunes either. Can someone please help me find a way to unlock my phone without losing all my data? I have important contacts, photos, notes, etc on my phone.

    Need to reparttion my main partition as I am running short of space.

    I have a 1 TB hard drive that I partitioned into two partitions. See attachment

    Partition 1(Data): Size (Around 256 GB and only has 12.66 GB free). This is where the OS in installed, is unable to install updates as it does not have free space .

    Partition 2: (Media) Size: 743 GB ( and has 211.68 free) where I store all important documents.

    Plan to repartition 2 to get 50 GB and add it to partition 1 .

    I am extra scared to lose any data. Need some steps for me to do this properly.

    iPhone 13 pro max keeps disconnecting from wifi

    This happened when I first got this phone in September. It'd disconnect and then reconnect within seconds, and it'd do it constantly. I made sure my wifi is on auto join, restarted my phone, disconnected manually and reconnected, reset network settings, literally tried every solution I found on the internet but none worked. Finally I just reset my entire phone & it finally worked normally again. Well now today it started disconnecting and reconnecting again. & I've tried everything again and I really don't want to keep resetting my entire phone. Any suggestions?

    iPhone screen goes black during calls

    When I'm on a call and I'm using another app, I can return to the call by clicking on the button on the top left corner of the touchscreen. However, when I do, the screen often turns black. Is there a way to fix this?

    The lid of my MacBook Pro '15 is open. It was in standby with the display off. Then suddenly it left the Standby and my watch unlocked it.

    This behavior is actually not new and it was the reason I deactivated this unlocking feature. I activated it again, because I thought and hoped the bug is gone.

    Anyone here with the same issue? That's damn insecure. Think about it, when you're in the office or elsewhere in the public.

    Phone won’t connect through the internet using data

    I recently discovered that when I try to go only in the car the switch to turn on data for Safari just won't stay on so my IPhone won't connect to the internet. I tried unloading data to see if my storage being full was the issue, but that didn't work. I can uninstall then reinstall Safari, but I want to know if this will fix the issue or if this is a phone issue that I need an expert to look at.

    Does HBO Max content show up in your TV Up Next section?

    So our HBO Max content hasn't been showing up in the TV app Up Next on Apple TV ever since they pulled their channel from Apple TV Channels (Apple really needs to rename all these things named the same thing). I just thought they were now like Netflix where I would have to remember what I'm watching in that app.

    Except when i went to my friends house the other day, his HBO Max content was showing in his TV app. So I've been trying to figure out why mine isn't.

    Anyone know how I can get it to show up?

    iWatch on Public Wifi

    Would I be able to get an extra iWatch (wife's old version 2) to connect to a public WiFi with a login required (first time only I believe) at my daughters school? There would be no phone nearby so she'd only be using the watch as a standard watch and to voice text. I'd either be using family sharing on an active phone or using a surplus iPhone (that stays at home and has no cellular service currently) as the main connection.

    I have an iPhone 11, just updated to iOS 15 the other day, since then I can't play Apple Music in my car anymore. I use a USB port in my car to charge and play music, since ios15 I can't anymore and it's driving me crazy. Any help would appreciated to put me in the right direction.

    So yeah, basically I don't have 4G on my phone anymore. I'm currently with AT&T as my phone provider and my iPhone XR automatically downloaded the newest iOS update (15.1) while I was asleep a few nights ago. And of course I just noticed this (I rarely use my data) but after the update I realized that my phone no longer has the 4G option in Cellular Data in my Settings. I'll provide my phone model number and additional info below.

    Software Version: 15.1 Model: iPhone XR Model Number: MT312LL/A

    Please let me know if there's a way I can either revert this or if anyone else has had the same issue. Thx 👍
