| Posted: 08 Nov 2021 08:07 PM PST Hello -- I'm hoping someone may be able to assist with an issue I'm having with my iPhone data. I'm not super savvy with iPhones or data recovery. To provide some background: I had an iPhone 6 or 7 (I'm not 100% sure which) that had what I thought was a screen issue, but was told by the genius bar that it was a motherboard issue and that I would have to send my phone in to some authorized repair mail in place to backup all of my data. They also told me this could take 6-8 weeks. I wasn't comfortable with that, so I told them I would backup my data another way. I found a local independent repair place that was able to backup my old phone data to a flash drive, but I'm not 100% clear on how to get this data onto my new phone (iPhone 11 I believe). I've read several articles on Google, Apple website, etc. that detail how to restore data from an iTunes backup or an iCloud backup, but this backup that I have on a flash drive doesn't really seem to be either of these. Below are a few screenshots of what the folders look like -- and from what I've read, they appear to be specific types of backup files for contacts, notes, iMessages, etc. -- but I don't really understand how to get the data onto my new phone: These folders also have a bunch of files within them: Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated, as this data is not currently in iTunes or iCloud. | How to remove my dead uncle's iCloud? Posted: 08 Nov 2021 11:16 AM PST My uncle died a while ago, and his iPad has since passed to me, since I'm the only one who could think of a use for it. I cannot reset the iPad without disconnecting his iCloud. Apple says I need either my uncle's iPhone(he had some shitty old flip phone, not an iPhone, and it was destroyed as well due to covid concerns), his password(which I obviously don't have), or proof of purchase(it was purchased by my aunt, who is also dead, back in 2014 or so). My mom was unable to guess at the security questions. Apple support tells me that there is literally no other way to reset it, because they would rather have someone inherit a literally unusable piece of tech than allow people to be able to steal an iPad, reset it, and use/sell it. So, I'm now faced with two options: throw it out, or find someone who could like... hack it or something?? [link] [comments]  |

| 2010 Macbook Air Throttling when battery half empty Posted: 08 Nov 2021 08:21 PM PST For some reason, my Macbook Air is throttling and not running at full performance when the battery level is under 40 ish percent. I have iStats Menu and it seems like the CPU is peaking around 140 degrees compared to the 180-190 that I normally get when I use my computer at full load at battery percentages above 40. And the fans never spin up as well. And when the battery gets under 20 percent, the temperatures max out at 120 and the fans never spin up either. And the computer runs much slower and the lag gets worse. However, the moment I plug in my computer, the lag stops immediately and then the temperatures go back up to 180-190 like usual and the fans spin up. I thought it was a battery issue because sometimes I would get a "service battery" message that occasionally goes away. I replaced the battery but I am still experiencing the same issue. Is this normal behavior or do I need to get another battery replacement? I know that macs tend to throttle when the battery is removed. [link] [comments]  |
| Why won’t both of my AirPods Pro connect? Posted: 08 Nov 2021 08:13 PM PST Both of them were working fine until yesterday when I put them on and only the right one would connect. I looked up a solution for one of them not working and I decided to reset them. I did and the left one finally connected, but now the right airpod is not being recognized. It shows up when it's charging but it won't start working when I put it in. I tried resetting them again, and many times after that, but only the left one works… what can I do? [link] [comments]  |

I think it's just a problem with the LCD/display cuz whenever I plug in my charger, I can still hear the little sound effect which indicates that the iPad itself is still working. How do I fix this? | Network sees my Mac Mini connected via ethernet, but I can't access the internet Posted: 08 Nov 2021 03:56 PM PST I own a 2009 Mac Mini A1283. I use it as a server. It has 2 issues. I'd like to resolve at least one:
This machine is not hooked up to a monitor, so these random disconnections are a huge pain. I'd LOVE to get Ethernet working on this machine. And I think it can work. When I go into my network (from another machine), I can see the Mac Mini connected via Ethernet. But if I open Safari or Chrome on the Mac Mini, I'm unable to load any page, and my server will not connect to the internet. When I remove the Ethernet cable and go Wifi-only, I'm able to load websites and my server software connects successfully. But then the Wifi will randomly disconnect about 24-48 hours later. Here's what I've tried:
The problem persists. I have one Port Forwarding rule set up on this network, but that's due to a Plex server running on an entirely different machine. Could that be in play here? Does anyone know how to solve? Thank you r/applehelp [link] [comments]  |

I have a number of monthly subscriptions through Apple (AppleCare, Apple Music, Hulu, YouTube Premium, etc.) that I want to come out of an "expense" account that I've created. Basically, it's an account that I want all my expected monthly charges to come out of…and since these are monthly charges, it would only make sense for them to come out of that account. That said, I've been known to make a good amount of in-app purchases every month. Since these are not fixed monthly charges, and simply go based on how I'm feeling, I'd like these charges to be charged to a separate account. Is there a way to make in-app purchases charge one card, while monthly subscriptions charge a different card? [link] [comments]  |

This lack of voice navigation is one of the top reasons that I use Google Maps or Waze instead of Apple Maps, but since Apple won't let us change the default Maps app, I accidentally end up in Apple Maps more often than I'd like… and then I'm listening to bongs instead of voice directions. | Posted: 08 Nov 2021 06:31 PM PST I'm trying to migrate data between a 2011 MacBook Pro running 10.12 and a MacBook Pro 2016 running 12.0 and using a thunderbolt cable. I have the apple TB2 to TB3 adapter and the TB2 cable between both machines, yet they don't want to talk to each other. I can't the other in target disk mode nor using the migration assistant. I can use ethernet, but since I have 2TB to move over, I'd prefer faster than slower! Any ideas as to why they won't talk to each other? I tried another TB3 port to no avail. I don't have anything else to connect to over TB2 to confirm the brand new adapter works properly. Everything is well seated. Help? [link] [comments]  |

There's one specific photo I am trying desperately to recover. I know that this photo was in a slideshow that I made in iPhoto. When searching through my backup, I know how to locate photos that were in iPhoto albums: I find the photos library, hit "Show Package Contents," and look at the folder contents of "Master." I do see all the photos I had in my iPhoto there. However, I can't find anything in these contents that related to slideshows. Could there be place other than "Masters" to look? Or is it the case that if a photo isn't in one of the "Masters" folder, it couldn't be in a slideshow? Super grateful for any possible advice! [link] [comments]  |
| 1TB WD My Passport for Mac drive not working with new '21 Macbook Pro Posted: 08 Nov 2021 01:50 PM PST Hey folks, yesterday I received my new 2021 MacBook Pro and have begun the process of moving my data from my old 2015 MBP to the new one. To my dismay my 1TB WD My Passport SSD doesn't appear to work on the new one. It appears fine on my '15, I put my work files & music library on it to transfer over, but it does not appear on my '21 when plugged in. It doesn't even appear in Disk Utility. The WD SSD has a USB-C socket on it, and came with a interchangeable cable that was USB-C to USB-C and USB-A (regular USB), that didn't work. I tried the USB-C to USB-C cable that came with my iPad Pro, that didn't work. I tried the cable I used to connect it to my '15 with an adapter and that didn't work. I tested all the ports on the '21 with a USB mouse (with an adapter) and it worked fine, so the ports are working. I tried to reformat the drive to APFS and that didn't work. I'm quite annoyed at the thought of having to buy another USB drive, when I have a perfectly acceptable 1TB SSD portable drive that works on every single computer I've plugged it into except the new '21 Macbook Pro. And I can't even find MacOS Catalina or High Sierra (or really any MacOS) in the App Store from the search bar...? | Put an SSD in the optical drive of my MBP and now have a very strange issue Posted: 08 Nov 2021 09:49 AM PST Hi there, I have a 2012 MBP running Mojave (10.14.6) I already have a 256gb SSD in the Hard Drive bay, and it works great, but I often find that I run out of space so I decided to take out the optical drive as it was never used, and install a WD Blue 1TB SSD using an optical drive caddy. The plan is to use the Optical SSD as a second hard drive and to partition 200gb of it to be used as a Windows 10 Boot camp. Installation of the drive went fine, the Mac sees the second drive, but whenever I try to copy any folder over to it, I get the error message: "The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in "[FileName]" can't be read or written. (Error code -36)" But when I locate [FileName] and copy it individually it goes over with no issues? I have tried running dot_clean in terminal on the folders, but I get the message "is a directory" every time. I've tried multiple different formats for the drive, but it's currently on APFS and GUID partition map and I still get the error message. Also, when trying to create the windows 10 bootcamp partition, I keep getting the error message "Your bootable USB drive could not be created - There is not enough space available on the disk." When it's an empty 32gb USB stick. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments]  |
