| Wifi weak security - what is the threat? Posted: 15 Aug 2021 05:43 AM PDT So I'm on vacation and staying in a place with password protected wifi for guests, however when I connect I receive the "weak security" notice. So I've since disconnected and did a little research. From my understanding, this displays when the router is using an old security protocol, one which could be more easily cracked. This makes sense to me, the data being sent between the device and router could potentially be intercepted and interpreted. However, isn't all iOS traffic encrypted anyways? Even if the data between device and router was grabbed, wouldn't it still be encrypted? What is the actual threat posed by this weak security message for a router using the outdated protocol - even more-so in this instance (vacation home)? Surely there has to be one, otherwise Apple wouldn't have added this warning in ios14. Just trying to learn and understand things. Thanks! [link] [comments]  | ||

| Posted: 15 Aug 2021 07:05 AM PDT I currently use 1Password but am considering moving over to iCloud Keychain after using the iOS 15 beta. It has all the features I currently use in 1Password but for free. I do have a concern about iCloud Keychain. I have heard that iCloud Keychain only stores your encrypted password data in iCloud until it reaches your device, then is decrypted and deleted from iCloud. If all your devices are destroyed or signed out of iCloud at the same time, then you lose all your passwords since there is no persistent iCloud storage / backup. Is this true? If so this is a huge dealbreaker as it as a large risk to losing all my passwords & 2FA codes. 1Password stores all data in their cloud so it lessens the risk of ever losing your passwords. Some view this as a risk, but I see it as a slight insurance policy in the event all my devices are destroyed so I can still get into my accounts. Posted: 15 Aug 2021 05:28 AM PDT I don't understand why and how to disable this, but my iCloud storage is cluttered with random screenshots from my phone. Why doesn't it just save the screenshot to the gallery? Once I take a screenshot, I always choose "save to gallery", not files. Am I the only one who has this problem? [link] [comments]  | ||

I have an iPhone 12 and want to log in to my old account. I have the username and password, but 2 step authentication was set up on my old phone and I forgot the 4 digit code to get into the phone and now it says that the iPhone is disabled. My understanding is that it blocks third party cookies by default, yet when I checked the cookies today it was full of ad cookies like DoubleClick and others. | Is there any way to prioritize WiFi over Cellular???? Driving me nuts!!! Posted: 14 Aug 2021 01:56 PM PDT I live in a basement with poor cell reception but excellent wifi reception. For some goddamn reason, my iphone x insists on trying to do everything over the shitty cell connection. texts, emails, etc take forever to send, and often won't send at all. if i toggle airplane mode on and connect just via wifi, everything sends immediately and with no problems (i have at&t wifi calling so everything works fine on wifi) is there a way to just make the stupid phone prioritize sending things over wifi instead of cellular??? it's annoying having to constantly toggle airplane mode on and off just to text people or send an email or load a website, and disabling cellular data for those apps completely isn't an option since then i can't use them when i leave the house and am not on wifi. google has been absolutely useless, so hoping someone here on reddit has an answer, thanks much!!! | iPhone Storage and Music’s “Optimize Storage” Horked? Posted: 14 Aug 2021 09:12 AM PDT For the past several months, I've been getting storage full errors on my 256GB iPhoneX. When I look at the storage in use, it will often say something like 168GB of 256GB used, but the allocation bar will be full, showing nothing remaining. What's more frustrating is that the by application breakdown will show music consuming 180+ GB (yes, more than the total amount in use) and I have "Optimize Storage" turn-on for music and set to 64GB. My phone should not run out of storage until the Music on the phone has been purged back to 64GB. I have tried turning the setting off then back on (multiple times), deleting music I don't need on my phone from the iPhone Storage settings page, deleting all music from my phone, but eventually, Music consumes all free space on the phone this includes items I've deleted from the phone multiple times.
