The iCloud Web Version has been abandoned for years and and it needs to receive some love Posted: 29 Jul 2021 01:59 PM PDT If you are not familiar with the iCloud Web version, It is an online service where you can login to your iCloud account and access some of your date being hosted on iCloud. It used to be a great way to access Apple's services on non Apple devices, but now it's a service that hasn't received any updates in years. Because of the lack of features and support, I see people downloading cross platform third party alternatives on all of their devices instead of the Apple Notes app, which I see as a wasted opportunity by Apple to keep people in their eco system. This post will mainly cover the notes app which is most likely the most used app within the service, but I will also mention features that also affect the other apps. What are some of the problems?
With iOS 15, we are getting two new features: Tags and Quick Notes. Will these features be supported at the launch of iOS 15? Definitely not. It will most likely be years until we see them. What can be done?
Lastly, Apple continuously talks about how progressive web applications can be created to bypass the AppStore but when you create an app of the iCloud Web Version, it clearly has not been optimised. How about proving epic wrong and showing us how progressive web applications can replace native applications? Just a thought. These are just some of the issues that are prevalent within the iCloud Web-suite, and I am positive that others that have had the unfortunate experience of using the service have encountered missing features, bugs, and lots of problems. Apple could easily fix these issues and improve the experience or iCloud users alongside increase the level of professionalism that you'd expect from a company that prides itself that "everything just works". TLDR: No dark mode, no image inserting support, no drawing functionality, a UI from 2013, bugs, no undo buttons, and overall a wasted opportunity to keep consumers in the Apple Ecosystem. I think the iPhone 12 mini is the perfect size phone, and I hope more people give it a chance. Posted: 29 Jul 2021 10:38 AM PDT I've been an Android user since the beginning and the iPhone 12 mini is my first iPhone. I switched from the Galaxy S10 (regular) and I've been quite satisfied with iOS (there's some things to complain about obviously but not in this thread). I'm not completely new to iOS as I've always used iPad over Android tablets, and I've always like Android more than iOS, and that's still mostly true. The thing that really pushed me into buying an iPhone was the size. No one, and I mean NO ONE makes a normal, natural ergonomically sized quality phone. Not anymore. I had hoped the iPhone 12 mini would push Android OEMs to copy Apple as they typically do, but no one has. So I finally caved. And after a few months on the iPhone 12 mini, I can't go back. And I don't mean back to Android, I mean back to a giant slab of a device. I still use my Galaxy S10 and my older Nexus 6P for a few specialized tasks that I just can't do on iOS and when I hold those devices they feel completely absurd in my hands. And for reference, my hands measure 8.5 inches from the base of my palm to the top my my middle finger. I thought I'd miss the larger screen, but it turns out that I don't even notice. (I watch a ton of YouTube. So much so that I still use YouTube Premium instead of Apple Music because of the ad removal on YouTube. I use over 100 gb of mobile data each month just on YouTube.) Now it seems Apple is trending towards not making mini devices anymore. So this is my sad desperate plea to tell people in the market for a new iPhone to give it a chance or even just serious consideration. I think most people who use the basic iPhone will prefer it. No other device is easier to use one handed. It's not even close. [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Jul 2021 07:57 AM PDT I'm a relatively experienced exerciser… clearly we want to be able to rotate through our days (legs, arms, core) and there doesn't seem to be a means by which to filter that way. I have started doing yoga with the app too, and had a hell of a time tracking down a 10 minute yoga session that focused on my legs (after overdoing my legs yesterday) it seems like such a simple thing that should be there. I mean it would just take the addition of a search bar. Hoping someone sees this and adds it, because it's annoying a.f. Edit: looks like it's coming in iOS 15. According to the comments. Thanks! Keep on keepin on. [link] [comments]

Face/Object tracking Gimbal for FaceTime Posted: 29 Jul 2021 01:54 PM PDT tldr: Recommendations for a "smart" gimbal that tracks objects/faces during FaceTime. Greetings friends. Perhaps my Googling skills are shit or there isn't a good product to fit this particular use-case, but any recommendations would be much appreciated. My grandmother is mostly constrained to the bed these days. If there is one thing that brings her a lot of joy, it's watching her toddler great-grandson (my nephew) traipsing about the world. I'm looking for a gimbal that my sister can attach her iPhone to and leave on a table during a FT call. She could then go about her chores while the gimbal tracks the little guy exploring the world, and my gma has some live entertainment. I checked out the DJI OM 4, but it doesn't actively track during video calls. [link] [comments]
