New iPad Air: can’t use Smart Keyboard in notes

    Posted: 04 May 2021 12:09 AM PDT

Hi all, I searched but only found an older thread on this subject; wonder whether anyone can help. I have a new iPad Air and noticed that Notes doesn't seem to recognize the Smart Keyboard. It is only accepting typing if I disconnect the keyboard. If the keyboard is connected I can only use the Pencil or write by hand. All other apps do recognize the keyboard. Any ideas on what's up?

My Wishlist for the 2021 iPad Pro and iPadOS 15

    Posted: 04 May 2021 08:07 AM PDT

So, like many of you, I pre-ordered the new 2021 12.9" iPad Pro. I currently have the 2018 model, but part of my reason for upgrading was to boost the storage capacity (I have the 64GB 2018 model, I pre-ordered the 256GB model). With it's currently, I know many, if not most of these, are impossible, but I'm hoping iPadOS 15 will open up the door for more flexibility in what I'd like to see. I feel that these would definitely make the new iPad Pros more of a desktop replacement option, without compromising the "security" of the platform.

    • The ability to run dual 4K external monitors using a Thunderbolt dock. I have two LG 27" 4K displays in my home office, so this would be awesome. I figure if it can run a single 6K display, a couple of 4K displays shouldn't be too demanding, but this could be a hardware limitation given the current M1 machines can only use 1 external monitor.
    • The ability to run Virtual Machines. I'd love to see a version of VMware Fusion or Parallels released for iPadOS. I feel this would be amazing, and would potentially completely eliminate my need for another laptop, especially if I could run an instance of Windows 10 or Linux for my development work.
    • Better than 10hrs of battery life. This has been the standard for nearly a decade. Apple lists the M1 MacBook Air as having 15-18hrs of battery life. The 12.9" iPadPro has a battery that's about 81% of the size of the M1 MacBook Air, so unless there's an artificial limitation, or something about the efficiency of iPadOS, or something I'm missing, I don't see why we shouldn't be able to get at least 12-14hrs of battery life.
    • "Real" file management support (and PLEASE show me the file sizes of my photos and videos!). The current Files app is a step in the right direction, but it's still not great by any means. Having real file management support, similar to macOS, even if it's limited to the main folders (Documents, Downloads, Music, Photos/Videos), would go a long way towards usability. I'm sure "most" regular users probably don't have a need for that, but if we have a need for a pro machine, we need pro machine features, and file management is one of them.

For me personally, the first 3 are the most important, but I'd like to see all of them. How do you all feel about these? I'm guessing all of them are probably unlikely, but I can dream. Maybe one day.

Is it possible to hide system apps like the App Store or the Alarm Clock on an iPad 8 using restrictions or some other trick?

Are iPad Air 4 supposed to vibrate *that* much while playing audio?

    Posted: 04 May 2021 06:43 AM PDT

I bought an iPad Air 4 last month. It works great and runs multiple heavy apps at once flawlessly. Whenever I play a video on YouTube or any other video/audio on my iPad, it vibrates a lot according to the audio (kinda like haptic feedback). Its not an issue at all, I actually like it. But, I just wanted to confirm that it is just how iPad Air 4 are supposed to behave and my iPad is not a defective piece. Most probably (and I hope) this is just the tradeoff of being such a slim device.

    M1 iPad and Sidecar improvements

    Posted: 03 May 2021 08:34 PM PDT

For a Mac focused guy, improve of Sidecar is the deal that makes it worth. People doubt on me that using iPad as a secondary or even main display for Mac, is not a good idea. But I enjoy Sidecar with iPad Air already, so hope M1 iPad improves this function more. What you guys thinking? Is this very niche use that not many care?

Luna display with M1 Mac mini

    Posted: 04 May 2021 09:14 AM PDT

If you want to use an ipad to remotely control the mini using Luna display and also have a wired monitor, I suggest you get a hdmi monitor. My M1 mini is behind a big screen TV and is part of a high end audio/video system plus a music server NAS with PLEX. I have a small monitor wired to the mini from the C port. I learned that once I insert the Luna dongle into the mini, the C display port is used up. There is only one C port for display. The only way to use my C port monitor is to get a hdmi to C adapter. Now, I can get a new ipad Pro to control it remotely.

Hands on with the new Brydge Keyboard for 12.9

Cannot add a GMail account to Mail in iPadOS 14.5.1, spoke with Apple Support, it's a known issue. I also can't login to Apple Support Canada (seems to be related to the new privacy settings in Safari). iPad Pro 12.9" 4th Gen, everything else as it was before the update to 14.5

Which app should I use to edit picture formats and change file size?

    Posted: 04 May 2021 05:04 AM PDT

I need to fill out various forms online and they have guidelines to upload images of particular sizes and resolution. What app/apps should I use to edit my pictures and documents to the required formats and sizes?

Can anyone suggest an app that’s compatible with iPad and macOS and is comparable to Transmit?

    Posted: 03 May 2021 04:33 PM PDT

I can't seem to find any universal apps that allow me to sync my connections. It's a shame that Panic killed Transmit on iOS.
