New Mac User here! Need help with Google Drive, please Posted: 04 Feb 2021 07:00 PM PST Guys, I am a lifetime Windows user, and yesterday I switched to the new Mac Mini M1. Man... this thing is powerful! I am still learning how to set it up, so I was wondering if you can have Google Drive set up as a virtual drive. I had an app in Windows where my Google Drive would appear just like a regular drive. Nothing was synced to my PC, only if I accessed a folder or file, it would be retrieved. Is there a way to do that in Mac OS? Any help is appreciated. [link] [comments]

Will updating my 2014 MacBook air to Big Sur hurt my performance Posted: 05 Feb 2021 02:39 AM PST At the moment I am on Mojave and it is running relatively well and i'm worried that if i update, my performance will get a lot worse. Should I update? (early 2014 MacBook air, i7, 8gb ram) [link] [comments]
Custom folder icon keeps reverting to its previous icon Posted: 05 Feb 2021 03:15 AM PST Months ago, I changed my OneDrive folder icon to a custom one to fit the Catalina design language. Now that I'm in Big Sur, I updated the icon to fit the Big Sur UI. However, the icon keeps reverting to its previous custom icon every now and then and it's annoying that I have to keep changing the folder icon only for it to revert again and again. Does anyone know what's going on, and how can I resolve this? [link] [comments]
Another Apple Music rant - just reverted to iTunes. Are there other apps? Posted: 05 Feb 2021 03:04 AM PST Yesterday I reverted to iTunes (thx Retroactive) and I'm definitely more happy - altough iTunes UI is bloated there's (almost) no freezing and UI is more responsive. But iTunes feels quite outdated these days. Are there any other 3rd party native AM clients for macos? I listen to the music via airplay and I'm addicted to the Songs list/layout (whole library shuffled). [link] [comments]

Posted: 05 Feb 2021 02:42 AM PST So Big Sur was released recently, thing is, I have an older computer (MacBook Air mid-2012), and I want to upgrade to Big Sur (I'm using Catalina at the moment), but I think since afaik Big Sur is the last update my computer will support, I don't want to update it just yet, but I kind of like the UI. Could anyone tell me how to get the Big Sur UI look on Catalina? Also I don't know if this is the right flair. [link] [comments]
Indexing fixes for Mac OS Big Sur 11-11.2 (solution) Posted: 05 Feb 2021 02:28 AM PST Yes, there is a file indexing issue. Please try selecting all the drives connected in system preferences > spotlight > restart Then when you boot back up delete the index file by typing: sudo rm -rf /.Spotlight-V100 Now go back into system preferences > spotlight and add all the drives you wish to have indexed in spotlight for fast file-searches. Hope this helps, please comment below if anyone has any tips or things to add. [link] [comments]

Screen time not sharing well across devices Posted: 05 Feb 2021 01:34 AM PST Hi all, After installing MacOS 11.2 I noticed that in Screen Time (System Preferences > Screen Time > Options) the checkbox 'Share across devices' was disabled. I'm not sure if it was enabled before, but anyway: I enabled it so I can see my Mac's Screen Time on both Mac and iPhone. On iPhone this toggle was already enabled, so I can see my iPhone's Screen Time on both iPhone at Mac. The problem is that I can see my iPhone's Screen Time on Mac, but not my Mac's Screen Time on iPhone. On iPhone, in Settings > Screen Time > See All Activity, there is no option 'Devices' in the upper right corner. It should be there, because on both devices the 'Share across devices' option is enabled. Already contacted Apple Support and we tried different steps to help fix the problem, but without any luck. Think of disabling/re-enabling the 'Share across devices' option and disabling/re-enabling Screen Time in general. Also rebooting devices didn't work. Now I'm wondering if more people are experiencing this issue, so we might have more references for fixing the problem. I am curious about your experiences. FYI: Running MacOS 11.2 and iOS 14.4 (most recent versions) [link] [comments]

Mac still asking for Apple ID password after signing out Posted: 04 Feb 2021 10:51 PM PST Hi, I am currently using a 2017 MacBook Air on Big Sur, and ever since I signed out of my Apple ID, it has been asking me to sign in to iCloud. Is there a way to fix that? I can't sign in because the reason I signed out is I wanted to delete my Apple ID. [link] [comments]
Yeti X not working on M1 Mac Mini macOS Big Sur 11.2 after update Posted: 04 Feb 2021 06:57 PM PST I am getting some weird audio issues with my Yeti X on my M1 mac mini. It wasnt working but after going to 11.2 I am getting looping audio when attempting to use it. On calls its just a loop and stutter of random things I said and if i try to record in Audacity or the G-Hub I get a mixture of random stutters from random sentences a while back. Seems to work fine when bringing to my Windows machine, but looking to see if anyone else has it working just fine. Thanks [link] [comments]
Software to highlight during presentation Posted: 04 Feb 2021 06:22 PM PST Freeware if possible as I'd be using it for work ( presenting desktop ) It's like when you see in youtube when they want you to focus on something on the page , the background is dim while the mouse location is brighter . Hopefully you understand what I'm referring to . Thanks [link] [comments]
Time to do a backup and fresh install--what should I backup? Posted: 04 Feb 2021 08:55 PM PST My iMac is starting to act a little strange (and the 2TB hard drive is getting very close to full), so I'm thinking it's time to back the important things up, wipe it clean and do a fresh install. Every time I do this, though, I seem to miss a handful of important Library files and, for example, my Music library never looks like it should, or something similar. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on how to make sure that I can retains as many settings and customizations as possible while still leaving behind the junk? [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Feb 2021 07:51 PM PST I want to be able to use a macro to play youtube url's that I've copied to my clipboard in mpv on terminal. Right now I have to manually copy and paste the link into a terminal window like such: mpv "https://www.youtube.com/xxxxx/xxxxxxx" Is there any way of using bash scripting or automator to achieve this? I have very limited knowledge of programming/coding/use of macros in general. This would help me a bunch for other tasks I want to automate, such as downloading lists of urls saved to a text file with youtube-dl at the click of a button, or the press of a few keys. If anyone knows where I can find help with this, or can give me advice, I would really appreciate it! [link] [comments]
2020 Mac Mini Dual Monitor Sound Issue Posted: 04 Feb 2021 07:48 PM PST Does anyone have a work-around for getting sound to come from a selected monitor? I'm currently running a 2020 Mac Mini, 2 identical 27" monitors, 1 hdmi, 1 usb-c to hdmi. No matter what I do, sound only comes from the left. I have swapped hdmi cables into different inputs, created aggregate, multiple output doesn't work because apple only recognizes one monitor because the names are identical. Any help would be appreciated. [link] [comments]

Blinking grey folder w/ question mark on boot up Posted: 04 Feb 2021 06:53 PM PST Was attempting to fix an old iMac for a friend (I'm an Apple product newb) and realized it was having trouble booting up. I took a look at the 320GB HDD and it appeared to be okay - thought connections might be loose based on what my buddy told me. I held onto the ALT key on boot up and couldn't get the option to choose HDD, but did see the mouse cursor, so the HDDs likely toast. I took the HDD with me as I was going to attempt to connect it to my Windows PC and see if I could install a fresh MacOS onto it. Is this possible to do, or would I just be better off creating a bootable USB drive w/ an older MacOS (say Snow Leopard since I'm not sure it's a 64-bit device), plug the old drive back in the thing and install that way? Hope this is the right place for DIY support, btw. [link] [comments]
Is Parallels worth it if using Bootcamp? Posted: 04 Feb 2021 06:21 PM PST I mostly want to know how powerful Parallels is in accessing an existing Bootcamp partition. Would I be able to run CAD programs (like Catia) in Parallels? Or would I still need to reboot my MacBook into the Bootcamp partition to run CPU-intensive programs? Does anyone have any other reason for/against paying for Parallels+Bootcamp simultaneously? [link] [comments]
Free space after Big Sur upgrade Posted: 04 Feb 2021 02:34 PM PST Hey I'm wondering why I have 33GB more free space than before after updating from Mojave to big sur. I deleted nothing before the update, at which point I had 18gb (just enough for the update) free. I haven't noticed that any of my files have been deleted but have experienced a marked decrease in performance. I have a 128GB late 2017 base MacBook Pro. Should I be concerned? Could anything important have been deleted? Is the OS simply a lot smaller this time? Many thanks [link] [comments]
