How do the different current-gen iPad models compare in terms of outgoing FaceTime video call quality? And has anyone experimented with using an external monitor in order to use the rear camera for better FaceTime video call quality?

    Posted: 08 Feb 2021 01:04 PM PST

    These are the technical specs:

    • iPad (10.2", 2020): 720p (I assume at 30 fps?)
    • iPad mini (5th-gen, 2019): 1080p at 30 fps
    • iPad Air (4th-gen, 2020): 1080p at 60 fps
    • iPad Pro (4th-gen, 2020): 1080p at 30 fps or 60 fps

    My questions are:

    • I am surprised to see that the iPad Air is solely 60 fps while the iPad Pro varies. Does the iPad Pro allow you to toggle between 30 fps and 60 fps?
    • How noticeable is the difference between 30 fps and 60 fps?

I am also curious if anyone has experimented with using the rear camera for better outgoing FaceTimevideo call quality. For instance, has anyone tried hooking up their iPad to an external monitor in order to have the rear camera facing them while FaceTiming?

Any way to rotate a PDF in Highlights? I’ve looked in PDF Expert as well, but that feature is only available in the $50 paid version.

For Linux users, I found this useful tool that mirrors a display to your tablet. No app download or jailbreak required.

Ipad Mini - 1st Generation and Limited Apps

    Posted: 08 Feb 2021 12:40 PM PST

I have an iPad Mini 1st Gen which i haven't been using because most of the apps can't be updated and some of the ones i use are not being updated anymore. I need to use very basic apps like (example) Xair Beringer App and since is a 32bit device I'm limited with those few apps.

Is there any way to make them run in that device?, maybe something to run them in compatibility mode or some like that?

I'm not an expert so i ask here.

Some ideas to give this iPad a good use will be really welcomed.

    Thank you all for reading.

I miss the iPad 2/3/4 smart cover design

    Posted: 07 Feb 2021 09:40 PM PST

My first iPad was an iPad 2, with the gray smart cover. I loved the design of that smart cover. The metal hinges made it feel really premium, and it would stay up really well when folded. It really made the device seem "fancy" in a way.

Since then, I've used an iPad mini 1 and an iPad Pro 10.5 in. I love both devices, but I don't think the smart covers are nearly as "premium" as they used to be. The soft hinge makes it seem flimsy, and the tri-fold (as opposed to the 4-fold design of the original) doesn't work nearly as well as a viewing stand, sometimes my iPad even falls off of it.

On the bright side, I've never paid the full $50 new from Apple price since the original, I find the smart covers on sale from places like Target or Tjmaxx when I buy them. I don't hate the new smart covers, I just really miss the original, does anyone else feel this way?

iPad Air 3 dual monitor support?

    Posted: 08 Feb 2021 11:53 AM PST

So I'm looking to create a new desk setup with dual monitor support. I'm trying to do this without breaking the bank. I have an iPad Air 3 and I'm hoping to use this along with the Shiftscreen app to support the dual monitors. My question is what would be the best docking to allow this? I'm hoping to get one that utilizes usb c and just connect with an adapter to the iPad so that I can use it in the future when I upgrade, but I'm not sure of any compatibility issues involved. Any insight would be great! Thanks.

    Callipeg or Procreate

    Posted: 08 Feb 2021 05:14 AM PST

Hello, Which app do you think is better for animations? Callipeg or Procreate? Or if you have another recommendation for a more professional application. Maybe a vector application if there is one. I want something for animations as smooth as possible. Something like After Effects maybe. Thank You very much!

Likelihood of us getting an iPad Pro update in March?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2021 05:19 PM PST

Looking into purchasing a pro for clinical note taking. Seeing some rumours that we might get an update this quarter. Should I hold off another month in buying or just bite the bullet now?

Does anybody know if Apple still sells the leather iPad case ? Or is there a comparable option to use on 12.9 Pro ?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2021 09:04 PM PST

I'm hoping this doesn't break the what should I buy rule, but if it does I'll happily delete this. For anyone that has bought off brand and name brand keyboard, covers, and pens did you notice a real difference making the price difference worth it?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2021 07:18 PM PST

I'm buying an iPad gen 8 very soon for Journaling, writing and art professionally, however the art is simple and fun and I'll probably be writing and drawing for 5 ish hours a day.

I've found a bunch of off brand stuff on Amazon for about a third of the price of name brand things.

Did you guys that have bought both see any real difference in quality, workability? I don't want to end up buying both in the end.

    Battery when using keyboard

    Posted: 07 Feb 2021 11:16 AM PST

Hello, I recently plugged in a mouse and keyboard into my iPad Pro 11" to see if the magic / Logitech keyboard was worth buying.

I noticed that the iPads battery is drained so fast when using my mouse and keyboard through usb. Is it the same with the keyboard / trackpad cases ?
