First iPhone in years, frustrated with the App Store Posted: 29 Jan 2021 09:04 AM PST I've noticed that the App Store basically lies about apps and games being free. E.g. you click on the app, excited to download it, and you see that it has in-app purchases. Okay, not a big deal. You scroll down and see that the app is subscription-based and is free only because it offers a free trial. It's not actually free to use. Is there a way to more easily find apps that are actually free without "trials"? I am okay with optional in-app purchases/subs as long as the apps are free to use indefinitely. I just don't want to constantly deal with these trials. Are ads not a thing anymore in iOS apps? From my personal experience (YMMV), I haven't seen many apps like that on Android's Play Store. The apps would still be free to use (albeit restricted to some degree), with purchases or subs being optional. It felt like the Play Store was more straight-forward and upfront about apps/games and their pay models. Like I said, this is my first iPhone in years, and I just feel a little lost and frustrated with the way the App Store is currently. I really am not a fan of it at all, though I like the rest of my iPhone 12 Pro Max. EDIT: I'm not being cheap. I just want there to be more transparency, that's all. I don't mind paying for an app if it's worth it, but I do want to test it out outside of a short-timed trial. [link] [comments] | ||

Posted: 28 Jan 2021 04:54 PM PST Was thinking it would be handy for iPhones to have "sound/alert profiles" set up. I find that it would be useful for the ability to have my phone ring at max level when I'm trying to use a Tile/Chipolo type of app/device to find it. It seems to be stuck on whatever level I have set it to when I'm looking for it from my wallet tracker. Similarly with geotagging options for it to change levels on its own if it realizes where I am ... i.e. at home, work, school etc. I know Apple doesn't usually play as nice with 3rd parties that don't prioritize them, and geotagging sounds could be invasive/ a bigger step etc. but thought it would be good to have that level of functionality built in. What are peoples thoughts on this? [link] [comments] |
