    Sent someone else’s laptop

    I traded my MBP (2016) to Apple because the trade value seemed ok, but when it got to them they lowered it by $500 and I said no thanks. They mailed it back MINUS my charger, and — very unexpectedly — alongside someone else's laptop.

    So for a week+ I've been trying to get this laptop back to its owner, and Apple doesn't seem to know what to do. I keep getting told I'll get a call back, and then nothing. It's super frustrating, in addition to having a power-chomping thing like a MBP and no charger that can fill it while it's on.

    I'm actually in touch with the owner of the laptop, and we're discussing just going the normal route of shipping it to him (across the country) if they can't figure it out soon.

    Anyone had anything similar happen? Anyone know how to escalate this so I don't have to go through the gauntlet of supervisors every time I call?

    Got an iPhone 12 and transferred data from old iPhone. Now this notification is happening on all photos over 2 weeks old. Changed iCloud setting to “Download and Keep Originals” already.

    How does apple convert your signature into vector graphics?

    You can hold up your signature to the camera on a Mac and it will turn it into vector graphics (e.g., you can then insert them into emails and PDFs). But how does this actually do that? I understand there must be some kind of "reading" process to get the outline. And then some magic to turn that into vector graphics? What is the magic here? (Is any of this open source?)

    App Store Update

    Hello when I go the app store on my iPhone 11 and I am sign in the app store with my Apple id and click on the Update All button it pops up with the message say this: sign in to the iTunes store if you have an Apple id sign in with it here and ask for the apple id password so I put the password for my Apple id and then tap the download button it keeps pop up with the error message say this: verification failed cannot find this person and the button say this cancel and try again.

    Calls drop when transferring from iPhone 12 Pro to 2020 MacBook Pro M1

    I make and/or receive a phone call from my iPhone 12 Pro and I can put the call on speaker. However, when I select my MacBook Pro, the call drops.

    Apple Support confirmed all settings are accurate on both devices and both are operating systems are up to date.

    Edit - I can make and receive calls on both devices; the issue is that the call is dropped as soon as I hand it off to the laptop and vice versa.

    This is a dumb question, but I have accidentally knocked a setting off that has a tab that says 'Done' on when I am using Safari. What is this and how do I switch it off again?

    I don't know if it helps, but it interferes with my ability to copy/paste, so I am struggling to put a link to a screenshot in.

    iMac screen fell off after repair

    In early December last year I followed iFixIt's guide to replace the HDD in my Late 2015 27 inch 5K iMac with an SSD. I took things slowly, and made sure to follow the guide to the letter. I was especially worried about reattaching the display, but I used the adhesive strips that iFixIt sold as part of the upgrade kit, and was relieved to find that once I got it all back together and booted up it worked flawlessly, and it really has breathed new life into an ageing machine.

    I walked into my room today to find the display had fallen off the iMac, and landed on my desk. Luckily there was no damage, and I've been able to reconnect it so that I can use it while I wait for more adhesive strips to arrive (it's currently being supported by the Service Wedge and a lot of masking tape).

    This was my first time trying an iFixIt repair, and I'm wondering if I messed up somehow, or perhaps I just got a bad batch of adhesive? Surely if it was going to fail then it would have done so sooner, not after almost two months? I've bought new adhesive strips from iFixIt, mainly because I don't know if I'd trust some random seller on eBay.

    I'd be interested to know if anyone else has had this issue as well. Are there any tips or tricks I should know that aren't mentioned in the guide?

    iphone 6 blackscreen, wont reboot by pressing button, only white screen with charge

    iphone 6 is completely black even with enough charge but when it is plugged into the outlet, it turns white with logo when buttons pressed for some time and then flashes black with back light. How do I fix this? I've tried plugging into iTunes but it wont show up on iTunes. i didn't drop it or cant remember anything specific. Im assuming it died from no charge and then now it wont turn on.

    How to change SSD's format from APFS (Case-sensitive) to regular APFS?

    I have a SSD formatted to APFS (Case-sensitive) with MacOS Mojave (10.14) on a mid-2012 Macbook Pro that I'm trying to turn into a regular APFS format while keeping the data (I have a Time Machine backup). I need to stay on Mojave in order to maintain software compatibility.

    I've tried Time Machine System Restore from a Time Machine backup in my network drive but doing that retains the case-sensitive drive formatting.

    I thought Migration Assistant would be the answer but I can't use this because apparently Migration Assistant under Mojave has a bug that prevents it from being able to access encrypted Time Machine backups.

    I guess what I'm trying to figure out is a way to reformat the drive to case-insensitive and restore the data from the Time Machine backup without using Migration Assistant or Time Machine System Restore.

    The only thing I can think of at the moment is to try to recreate the drive by manually copying the files over (by accessing the files inside the Time Machine backup sparsebundle) but that seems risky especially with all the hidden invisible files and having to know which ones to copy and which ones to not.

    I'm open to any suggestion at this point.

    Question about 2FA and sim cards

    Hello, first of all, sorry for my english since it isn't my first language and I wasn't sure which flair to use.

    A year ago or so, I enabled 2FA for more security BUT tonight I just thought about something. Before COVID, I would go to my family's country once a year and get those prepaid tourist sim card and back then I didn't have 2FA enabled so I didn't think much of it and would just switch sim cards for like a month. So I was thinking, since i'm going to switch sim cards and that I now have 2FA enabled, will there be any issue?

    iPhone randomly shuts down/restarts/battery suck

    I don't really know how to begin this, but I'll preface that I know next to nothing about technology. I've had my iPhone (SE model) since 2017 I'd guess, and I haven't really had problems with it until 2019/2020/currently. It's had a few falls, but as far as I know my case has taken all the damage since the screen isn't cracked and nothing has really malfunctioned. The longer I've had this phone, the worse my battery capacity is (but I know that's related to my usage and whatnot). Since this past December though (estimation), I've noticed that sometimes my phone will randomly shut off and when it reboots, the battery has drained from full to 10% in the span of less than five minutes. Is this an issue of "fallen on the ground too may times", "too old", or "the conspiracy theory that Apple purposefully sabotages their products to begin malfunctioning the longer you have one is true".

    Again, I know next to nothing about tech, so any (preferably nice) comments regarding the issue are appreciated. I'd like to know what's going on so I know how to go forward. Thanks in advance!

    Sorry if this isn't the place to post this.

    My cellular plan is currently managed and paid for by my workplace. In the next month or so my workplace is going to end their cellular contract and instead just offer to give me a monthly cell phone credit. So I'm going to have to get my own plan. Which isn't a big deal. When I do get my own plan I'd like to get the Iphone 12 Pro Max. I know on the apple website you can trade your current phone for credits towards a new phone. My question is, How would I transfer all of my stuff over to the new phone(iCloud?)? Also, how does that work with sending your current phone in? Do they send you the new phone, you transfer everything and wipe the old phone, then send it? Or do you send your current phone, they inspect it, and then they send the new phone?

    Sorry this may be a dumb question I've just never had to do this before.

    My Samsung galaxy tab A 8.0 died so I'm looking for a replacement. I bought an iPhone over the summer so I've gotten familiar with iOS and decided to get an iPad instead this time around.

    I want to know if the mini is good enough for comic book reading. I don't really want to invest more money and aside from not knowing if the screen size is enough, everything else about the mini is perfect for my needs. I may consider an iPad with a bigger screen if the mini is no good, but I would much rather have the mini if it's good enough.

    Videos won’t play on iPhone 8 iOS 14.3

    I've been trying to play videos but for some reason they won't play. There's no loading circle or anything, every video from every app I've tried loads up and then doesn't play as if it's frozen but I can still do things on the apps. My friend texted me a video on iMessage and it wouldn't play, and I can't play YouTube videos or any videos that come across my feed on Instagram or Twitter. I've restarted my phone several times and the router but nothing has fixed this. Closing the app and opening it again doesn't do anything either. Has anyone seen this?

    iPhone 12 dropped calls/service issue - resolved?

    I was considering getting the iPhone 12 with Verizon. I noticed there were tons of negative reviews and articles talking about users experiencing random dropped calls and losing service. The reason didn't seem to be clear. But I was wondering if these issues have been resolved and I'm safe to purchase?
