Posted: 24 Nov 2020 07:31 PM PST After updating to 11.0.1 my volume control will disappear from the menu bar even though it's set to Show in Men Bar "always". I'll use it several times a day and then suddenly it's gone, especially if I switch from the built-in speakers to a bluetooth speaker and back. When I go to the sound tab in Dock & Menu Bar settings the "show in menu bar" option has unchecked itself. I've tried searching around but can't find anyone else having this issue. (2018 MBP) Thanks for any help/ideas! [link] [comments]

App arguments in Spotlight - how to? Posted: 25 Nov 2020 12:18 AM PST I'd want to add arguments to app the way I can do it in command line in terminal, say atom ~ Is it possible? Or must I switch to some Sportlight replacement? Which one? [link] [comments]

Posted: 24 Nov 2020 06:20 PM PST After entering password and looking like it's going to boot up, then crashes to black screen and then message 'your computer restarted because of a problem. Press a key or wait a few seconds to continue starting up' where it brings me back to the login screen and we do it all over again. Any suggestions? I tried disk utility. Went through that whole bit and just tried again with the same Issue. Any suggestions on next approach? [link] [comments]

Kernel Panic on latest public Big Sur (2018 MBP) Posted: 24 Nov 2020 10:57 PM PST My 15" Mid-2018 MBP just kernel panicked on the latest public Big Sur (build 20B29). Going to report to Apple, but I noticed the process was related to Firefox. The panic occurred when I closed a tab containing Amazon Prime Video in FF Beta 84.0b4. In the details it says A quick search for the process name renders this page. Appears to be a FF process managing the plugin for the video I was watching. Just posting in case anyone else runs into the same issue or has any suggestions. This is the first kernel panic I've had on a Mac since 2015 in which case it was the result of some bad RAM I had recently installed. It is also the first panic I've experienced on this system. Probably going to blame Big Sur on this one, but was wondering if anyone had any similar experiences. Ik Big Sur was causing some panics while in beta. Wonder if one slipped through? Why is a MacBook better for a student than an iPad? Posted: 24 Nov 2020 08:40 PM PST Hi everyone. I'm a junior in High School and was looking for something to replace my 2015 MacBook Air. I've been looking at some threads, and they all seem to say the same thing: that if you can only have one, you should pick the MacBook because it does certain things better than the iPad. However, no body really has said what sort of things the MacBook does better. I know it can run programs but besides that I don't really know how it would be better than an iPad. Could someone explain? Thank you in advance. [link] [comments]
Firefox and Chrome painfully slow in Big Sur Posted: 24 Nov 2020 10:12 AM PST Is anyone else having issues with Firefox and Chrome being painfully slow after the Big Sur update. Seems like the browsers aren't able to access the GPU for hardware acceleration. Of course, Safari works fine. [link] [comments]
SMB Keeps Mounting Automatically Posted: 24 Nov 2020 07:13 PM PST Hi there, This issue has been driving me batty for months...I thought it was a Catalina issue, but it continues with Big Sur. The short version: I have a Synology volume that constantly mounts...I eject it, and it comes back. I've run lsof in terminal multiple times, and it shows that no files are currently being used. The shared volume has non-iCloud photo libraries on it, which were causing photoanalysisd to read the items on the share, but that has long since ended, but the drive still mounts. I've tried to exclude it from spotlight and from Time Machine, but it keeps coming back. Any ideas of suggestions would be welcomed! [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Nov 2020 06:20 PM PST There's a yellow warning sign next to a third party app in Screen Time. I contacted Apple Support and couldn't resolve the issue after being on hold for an hour. I restarted the computer and reinstalled the app too but nothing happened. It's still there. Anyone experiencing this and solved this? [link] [comments]
Clone 2nd drive with home folder Posted: 24 Nov 2020 05:04 PM PST I'm hoping someone can help. I have a unibody with 2 hard drives. A boot drive and a data drive. The home folder for the user account lives on the data drive. I tried cloning the data drive with superduper to a new bigger data drive but the computer won't load the user account on the new drive afterwards. I put the old data drive back inside and it's still fine. I plugged the new data drive into a USB port to check it out and noticed the home folder doesn't have the home icon for the folder. What are some ways to proceed? Should I do a time machine backup then swap the new data drive in and restore with time machine? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Slow 2010 Macbook Pro High Sierra Posted: 24 Nov 2020 01:04 PM PST Unsure of the HDD Size but I know she doesn't have much media/apps.g: 13"MBP Mid 2010 2.4ghs Intel Core 2 Duo 4GB Ram DDR3 GForce 320M 256 MB Unsure of the HDD Size but I know she doesn't have much media / apps. Which isn't a bad machine for its age but she recently had to update to High Sierra as an app she wanted to use was only compatible with. But it has crippled the overall performance of the machine. I run CleanMyMac X and have changed some settings (Reduce Transparency, Reduce Motion, Ex...) to gain some performance back but not helped enough...
She can live without the app she wanted I think the performance has put her off it. Thanks in Advance! [link] [comments]
Big Sur way slower then windows on bootcamp Posted: 24 Nov 2020 06:42 AM PST Hello. I'm really going nuts here. I have Mac Pro Late 2013 with bug Sur installed, I completely formatted my hard drive and install big sir and bootcamp with windows 10. my setup is a bit complex, this is a computer studio for audio. so I have 3 usb hubs connected with 12 ports and most of them are taken, one 5tb hard drive connected directly to the Mac Pro, 3 monitors one with hdmi and 2 with hdmi to mini display port cables, my audio card is claret 8pre that connected with thunderbolt. so windows works properly,. in macOS the UI becomes really slow really quickly. if I try to watch Netflix, play diablo and see someone on zoom together the computer actually freezes. in windows it works properly, not a lot of frame rate in Netflix but besides that things just work! what drives me crazy is that when my computer freezes I see that nothing spikes! I have Istatistica pro installed to show me voltage and stress and nothing is stressed. even now when I'm typing this message, I have only Netflix opened in one of the monitors and if I go to the dock with my mouse (I have the zoom effect) and I move my mouse between the apps, the zoom animation really freezes. yesterday when I played in windows, after a couple of hours it also started to become a bit slower but nothing compared to what I'm experiencing on macOS. so I really have no idea where to go from here, I don't mind buying any app that can help me find out the source of the problem... I just want my Mac Pro to be operational again. any information regarding this issue would be greatly appreciated. thanks [link] [comments]

Macos Big Sur and Google Drivo Posted: 24 Nov 2020 03:54 PM PST Mac didn't test with Google Drive. It works until a person searches for something like pdf. It works until you download. It worked before I upgraded to Big Sur. I am running the latest version of Chrome on my desktop 87. So Apple please fix this. If Apple is listening I am more than happy to be a beta tester. Time machine hard drive keeps getting corrupted Posted: 24 Nov 2020 08:01 AM PST So I like to backup my MacBook to an external hard drive via timemachine. However my hard drive sometimes gets disconnected either due to me accidentally touching the usb c dongle which seems a bit faulty. Before macOS Catalina, this wouldn't be a problem. However ever since that update, when I accidentally disconnect it the entire drive gets corrupted and I can't mount it anymore and have to erase it and start over meaning i lose all the backups from the last few months. First aid does not work. The hard drive is encrypted. My question is: Is there a way to format it so an accidental disconnect doesn't corrupt the entire drive? Does formatting without encryption help? On another note. The backup disk I have is partitioned and the exFat partition never gets corrupted when I disconnect it. Does anyone understand why?
