Got my 4 port thunderbolt 2020 MBP replaced with M1 MBP for free Posted: 24 Nov 2020 12:56 PM PST I've been having issues with the fan on my mid 2020 MBP with 4 thunderbolt ports which I got in July. I put off getting it fixed for a few weeks because I was super busy with work and didn't have time to go apple store but finally got around to it last weekend. Booked an appointment and I was chatting with the Mac technician about the new M1 MacBooks and he could tell I was very excited to talk about them. I was actually a little disappointed in myself thinking I'm a genius for getting the last intel MBP (got the 1TB, 16GB ram version) but when I saw the reviews for the M1 I was shocked. After about 30 minutes of trying to work out what's wrong and whether I'd be happy for them to take the laptop away for a week to get it fixed, the guy said he'd classify the issue as a "critical failure" and offer me a full refund and let me pick up an M1 MacBook Pro. Of course I jumped at the opportunity but they only had the 8GB ram and 512GB storage version and decided to go for it. I also got a $940AUD refund for the difference in the price which was amazing. After a few days of usage I'm so impressed with this little machine! Everything is so much faster and the battery life holy shit. TLDR: Mac technician let me swap out a 16GB ram 1TB storage 2020 MBP (10th gen intel) for an M1 MBP and got a refund for the difference in price. Good guy Mac technician. [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Nov 2020 02:16 AM PST Hey everyone. I bought a M1 macbook air on 10th November right after the launch. I was charged when I placed the order, and now the status of my order changed from Processing to Ready to ship. I was charged again when this happened. I contacted my bank, and they told that it's on Apple. I have been trying to contact Apple but I'm unable to reach. Can someone guide me? I'm already broke [link] [comments]

Posted: 24 Nov 2020 07:16 PM PST So i recently just got a secondhand macbook pro mid 2009 and already maxed it out on upgrades and replacements. And everything was cool until i found out that the laptop would idle at 70 degrees Celsius, and when put under even the slightest bit of load (i'm talking just looking through messages or watching a video on safari) The computer would frequently hit 101 degrees even with the fans running full blast. Now i haven't replaced the thermal paste yet but i've heard that it only makes a 2-3 degree difference and have heard horror stories of repasting going wrong. Is the small temp change true? If not what type of paste should i get? Advice? [link] [comments]
MacBook Air M1 8GB vs 16GB thinkorswim (question) Posted: 24 Nov 2020 09:12 PM PST I will be getting one of the new m1 MacBook Airs I was wondering if anyone here has used thinkorswim with the M1 MacBook Air and if a 8GB is sufficient or should I upgrade to the 16GB? I don't do any video/photo editing or gaming, mostly trading. [link] [comments]
Question about about Apple slowdowns (M1 8gb after two years) Posted: 24 Nov 2020 08:14 PM PST First time considering Mac and drawn to MBA M1. With M1 this year as a transition device, I am considering going with the base MBA and upgrading in two years in hopes of a MBA refresh. I know nothing is for certain but will an 8gb MBA M1 be enough for two years of medium-heavy chrome, word, notion, notability, and Spotify? Part of me wants 16gb but I know once a MBA refresh comes out (hopefully smaller bezels and face id) I will 100% jump on it. I do not want to invest in future proofing and will most likely give my MBA M1 to a relative, trade-in, or sell it. Will I notice slow down after a year of two? First time Mac here coming from once a gaming pc rig, then surface (4gb), then now and XPS 13. [link] [comments]

Posted: 24 Nov 2020 07:10 PM PST Looking for advice...my Mom currently uses a MPXQ2LL/A MacBook Pro that she purchased in 2017 I believe. I cannot tell you how much I hate this computer. She calls me everyday because it's telling her the disk is messed up because the memory is full or there's no room to open emails etc. I know very little about computers so much of it is messy for me. Can someone recommend a fix...she prefer it is a 13" and is future proof for the next 5-7 years (if that is a thing) I would prefer if it didn't require a bunch of add on things like cloud storage and external hard drives and stuff. She mainly uses it for pictures, browsing, some daily uses I just feel like I did a poor job last time thinking the 128gb model would be sufficient. I have more memory than that on my iPhone?! Anyways if someone could tell me if the new MBP 13" is worth it and to save me grief and hassle is my best option the 1TB? Also since the apple store isn't open can someone please give me the quick and dirty explanation as to what this M chip is all about. Thank you The guy who knows nothing about computers! Anyone else waiting for M1 MBA? [Canada] Posted: 24 Nov 2020 07:06 PM PST Ordered the day before launch - M1 MBA, the only upgrade from base is 16GB of RAM. Still processing the order - seems like others are having no issue having their orders fulfilled. [link] [comments]
Apple Thunderbolt Display with M1 Macbook Posted: 24 Nov 2020 12:58 PM PST I have an older Thunderbolt Display that I got with my old 2012 Mac mini. It has a mini Displayport-shaped Thunderbolt 2 plug. If I get the Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 Adaptor, would I be able to use this monitor with an M1 Macbook Air? And if so, would the ethernet port, USB ports, etc. pass data back to the laptop or would it just be display-only? [link] [comments]

Will VMWare work on new M1 MacBooks...? Posted: 24 Nov 2020 06:06 PM PST Like the title says, I am wondering if any of you guys have been able to run VM ware on your new M1 MacBooks as I absolutely need that software for work every day. I really want to get one of these new MacBooks but I'm afraid that when I sell my current MacBook my new one won't be compatible with that software. Any info would be greatly appreciated – thank you! M1 MBA with 8gb ram...acceptable? or crazy? Posted: 24 Nov 2020 05:58 PM PST Ok, so I have a 2015 MBP right now...8gb ram. I was dead set that once I had the money saved up, I was going to get a new 16" MBP...I don't necessarily need the extra power, the most intensive thing I'll do is some light photo editing, and I tend to like to leave a lot of browser tabs open, but I really wanted the larger screen size. I've since convinced myself that the 13" is fine...I've got a 34" monitor if I really want to work on something with more screen real estate. And, with all the reviews, I'm convinced the MBA will be fine...but I'm really torn on the 8gb ram. Is it really enough? Is the M1 that spectacular that, 5 yrs later, I'll get a second MacBook and 8gb of ram is going to be enough? [link] [comments]

HD videos not sharp on new Macbook Air Posted: 24 Nov 2020 11:37 AM PST So up until now I've been used to pre-retina Macbook Pros (2011 and 2012), and have always found videos to be super sharp. Today I got the early 2020 Macbook Air, and find that HD-videos (Youtube etc.)are so unsharp it's really bothering me. Wifi is great, settings are set to the highest resolution, and still the videos are looking so bad. Thumbnails next to a video looks razor sharp, and really highlights how dull the main video is looking. I assume this all has to do with my Mac having such a high resolution? Does anybody know what I can do to fix this? [link] [comments]

Display Adapter for 2560x1440 60hz Posted: 24 Nov 2020 04:19 PM PST Does anyone know what display adapters work on the MacBook Air M1 to get 60hz on an external monitor at 2560x1440 resolution? Just found out today my Anker hub only runs at 30hz without selecting "low resolution". [link] [comments]

2020 M1 Macbook air or Surface laptop 3? Posted: 24 Nov 2020 10:08 AM PST I'm graduating from college in a few weeks and told myself years ago that I would upgrade my laptop when I'm done with undergrad. Right now I have the 1st gen surface book, but I'm thinking of switching over to apple (already have iphone). The M1 chip in the new macbook looks amazing, but I have used windows for most of my life and understand it much more. Would it be worth it in the long run to switch over? Any opinions would be helpful, thanks in advance. Also going to post in r/Surface so I can hear from both sides. [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Nov 2020 12:00 PM PST I dropped my water bottle and a few tiny drops landed on my key board . I immediately used a rag to dry it , just wondering if you'd think this would cause any damage? It didn't turn off or anything and seems to be working as normal. [link] [comments] |
