| Mushy Power Button On iPhone 12 Posted: 03 Nov 2020 07:40 PM PST I've literally only had the phone for 3 maybe 4 days and the power button is mushy. It doesn't have that clicky tactile feel like when I first got it. When I click the volume buttons for comparison it's very obvious. I've tried to get any dirt or anything that might have got stuck in the button out and it would go back to being clicky, and then minutes later go back to being soft and mushy feeling again. It's very agrivating considering how new this phone is, and I don't want to have to spend tons of money repairing it not even a week after I bought it, especially if there's someone out there who can help me solve this problem myself. I click send on Snapchat and it just disappears instantly and on Instagram I get unrecoverable errors. I also can't save any media from Snapchat. I have Googled this issue and searched Apple Communities but there doesn't seem to be anything similar happening to anyone else that I have found. Model info: iPhone 11 (standard, not Pro) running 14.1. Purchased for personal use from 2 Degrees (carrier) in New Zealand, July 2020. Issue: In a quiet/indoor environment, dictating email/ext/Messenger/WhatsApp is usually fairly accurate. However recently, perhaps after an iOS update, when trying to dictate on the street, the dictation starts every sentence with 'Call'. For example I say 'Hey man, how's it going?', but what appears in the message box is 'Call hey man how's it going?'. The issue could be described as intermittent as I haven't determined the decibel threshold at which the error occurs. Suffice it to say it's very annoying, and significantly reducing my enjoyment of the product as I frequently use dictation for email/texts. [link] [comments]  |

| Posted: 03 Nov 2020 05:11 PM PST Fair warning that I'm still adapting to iOS and learning all of the standard troubleshooting methods specific to the Apple ecosystem. For the most part I've found the transition to Android to iOS fairly intuitive, but I've noticed two lingering problems that I can't figure out how to solve (or if that functionality exists, in the case of forwarding messages). iPhone XS, iOS 14.1, iCloud syncing pretty much everything related to core OS functionality First problem: The contact photo I set for one particular contact is not displayed in the Share menu. I only have two contacts I text on a daily basis, my parents. I decided to pin both conversations in iMessages and set contact photos for both. No other contacts have photos. My dad is a contact imported entirely from my Google account. My mom's contact is likely a mixture of a Google contact and an iOS contact, as I had an iPad before the iPhone and could send messages to her iPhone via the iPad. Her contact was established in my Apple account prior to the purchase of the phone, then. I set contact photos for both from my iPhone (my mom does not have an iMessage photo attached to her Apple ID). My dad's photo displays properly within both iMessages and the share menu, but my mom's is only displayed in iMessages; the share menu displays my dad's photo next to my mom's initials. I have tried turning off iCloud sync of contacts, keeping local copies on the phone, then restarting the sync and choosing to merge the versions. I have also tried forcing an update to the contact by adding a bogus number to her contact and then deleting it. Neither have worked, and I'm a bit stumped. Second problem: If I choose to forward SMS to my iPad with the same Apple ID and iCloud account, reading the new messages on one device does not update the unread count / notification bubble on the other. Is this possible with some combination of settings? I would like to be able to respond to messages on my iPad while working, but if I read and respond to a message on the iPad, I don't want the iPhone to still say I have X unread messages (or vice versa). Any suggestions for possible fixes would be appreciated! I'm tech savvy enough to be able to troubleshoot and report back if needed. I may struggle a little to find a setting if the location or wording has changed since the one you suggest (I'm still getting used to having a centralized location for all settings, as well as to Apple's organization system), but I can usually find the equivalent I'm looking for. | iPhone X Face ID is unavailable ios 14.1 Posted: 03 Nov 2020 04:38 PM PST I have an iPhone X running the latest version of iOS and my Face ID has not been working since just before ios14 was released. Every time I try to set up Face ID, I get an error saying "face id is not available try, setting up face id later." Has anyone else seen this issue before and have you found a solution? I have tried soft resets, hard resets, and resetting the iPhone settings. The only thing I have yet to try, as far as I know, is doing a back up and a complete factory reset. [link] [comments]  |

| Notes app draining iPhone XR battery like crazy Posted: 03 Nov 2020 02:16 PM PST Model: iPhone XR MRYR2LL/A iOS: 14.0 (18A373) I noticed a couple days ago that my battery life hasn't been keeping up. Today it was 100% at 6am and down to 40% by noon. The phone was purchased new one year ago. I went into the battery settings to see what was going on -- here's the breakdown: Notes (Widget, Background Activity): 62% Game: 8% News app: 6% Email app (Background Activity): 5% I have no idea why Notes is so power hungry. I haven't used it for at least a few days, and only open it occasionally to write/check off grocery shopping lists. Has anyone else encountered this strange behavior? Any suggestions? | Edited photos corrupted with gray bar when transferred to PC Posted: 03 Nov 2020 12:55 PM PST Whenever I edit a photo on my iphone X, particularly cropping (as this is usually the only edit I do on my phone), it leads to a corrupted picture when I transfer the HEICs from my iphone to my Windows 10 Surface Book 2. This is a problem that didn't used to happen. The result is an HEIC image with a significant portion of the image covered by a large ugly gray bar along the bottom. And it is not minor either. It is a bar that covers between 20-50% of the photo. It is seemingly a corrupted file but why is editing my photos resulting in this behavior? It is very concerning as I now fear I will lose precious photos. Luckily, the original, unedited photo seems to be fine... for now. Has anyone seen or heard of this? | Looking for advice. Replaced screen on iPhone 11 running iOS 14.1 now 100% battery dies in an hr. Posted: 03 Nov 2020 10:37 AM PST Screen cracked on iPhone 11 so we contacted a local company which travels to you since the local apple was closed by us because it was in a mall. Local company replaced the screen and immediately phone would not unlock with face. Phone got really hot and battery was ticking down. Called them and they said it's a screen from bad batch. They came and replaced the screen again and all seemed fine for about 30 mins until phone got hot and battery rapidly discharged. Company said to let the battery drain to 0 and recharge to 100% which we did and now it says important display message in settings that reads "unable to verify this iPhone has a genuine Apple display". Face unlock still doesn't work. Now the company's says they figured out what it is and that a ribbon cable is damaged and they need to replace a logic board. I don't want them going this far Into the phone. Has anyone else experienced this with IP11? I've replaced screens on iPhones before. I've done it myself, I've had multiple companies do it. | Texts Not Being Received to a Particular Contact Posted: 03 Nov 2020 06:38 AM PST I've had this on going issue for about 5 weeks now that I still can't figure out: Phones involved: Her and I both have the iPhone XR, both on iOs14 Rough Timeline of issue: -Mid September: She was able to receive iMessages from me, but couldn't send them. We then switch to Whatsapp to avoid iMessage issue -Late September: her Whatsapp stops working, she sends SMS that I receive, though it seems as shes tried to send texts prior that didnt make it to my phone. I then reply back with iMessage, she never gets it, so I reply back with SMS which she gets. Texting only works for about 30mins before it completely stops working -Early to Mid October: our messaging gets worse. She only seems to receive my texts every few days and it only works for a short period of time before they stop working for days again. She'll be able to send me some messages everyday but my replies rarely ever make it to her. None of my iMessages make it to her over the next 2 weeks despite saying delivered, she only gets SMS. She is able to get Whatsapp working again for a couple days and then it suddenly stops working hours after we last used it together and hasnt worked since. Other details: - she never seems to receive the texts if I initiate the conversation. If by the rare chance it works, its as a quick reply to something she wrote (the last time I was able to successfully initiate a conversation was Oct 2) - my phone can still detect she has an iPhone (shows Facetime as an option in her Contacts page, sometimes tries to initially attempt to send an iMessage) - when I attempt to send an iMessage, most of the time lately, it will send as an iMessage but then changes to SMS - calling doesnt seem to do anything either. She said her phone doesnt even light up when I call, or even notify her that I did. Always about 1 ring, and then voicemail. I attempted this with a few numbers, plus even having my caller id blocked for a call. - I contacted my carrier and the network team ran a trace and said there was no connection issue communicating with her phone, they should be delivered - she said sometimes it looked like the messages she receieved arrive out of order or that some messages dont even arrive at all (she once noticed a text she got just said "oh and btw" which implied she didnt get the first of my multiple messages) - she said shes able to get texts from others, just somehow not from me. - since I had a text make it to her the other day, I would assume that means I'm not blocked in her phone. Things I've attempted: -texting and calling from different numbers, carriers, phones - reset my network - reset my phone while removing my Sim Card - calling from a caller id blocked number incase my number was accidentally blocked I can't figure out what would cause her phone to just not recieve texts from me or any number I try, especially if the carrier says the connection is fine between us. Does anyone have any sort of idea what could be causing this or any workaround I can try to get a message through? I have no other means of contacting her (no social media to message, etc) and shes a very important person in my life that I would need to speak to as soon as I can. Thanks for any help! | iOS 14 battery issue or actual battery problem Posted: 03 Nov 2020 05:59 AM PST About a month ago I had the battery replaced. Everything worked fine. Four days ago I updated to 14.1 and the battery would just plummet which seems like the known drain issues in. However it would also periodically at between 30-60% charged turn off and when it comes back it's at 10ish percent. If I'm home and I can plug it in it charges close to the old level in less than 10 minutes. If I can't plug it in it seems to last longer than I'd expect at 10% but I'm very cautious about using it. I tried running it down to zero then fully charged. I factory reset and restored the backup yesterday and it just shut off again. Battery health says 100% Anything else I can do?
