Can’t reinstall Catalina - please help! Posted: 23 Oct 2020 12:08 AM PDT 1) 2020 MacBook Pro first ever. 2) Made the biggest mistake in hindsight - tried Public Beta Big Sur. It was working ok but anytime there was a new System update, it would fail to download. Decided to boot into recovery mode and restore 3) Formatted drive (500g) AFPS 4) Shift option cmd r went into internet recovery. Clicked reinstall MacOS Catalina. 5) Tried twenty times - it'd give me the pk download error at 2 mins remaining mark I've tried resetting NVRAM. Disable SIP but literally nothing seems to work. Apple stores are not taking Genius Bar appointments. Please help me avoid sending this in. [link] [comments]

Posted: 22 Oct 2020 11:43 PM PDT Hi, So, I have the following problem. I am using a mbp 16" that came with Catalina. I need to run in VMware Fusion HighSierra(this one for 32 bit app support, since I am working on porting an existing app from 32b to 64b) and Catalina(for testing and tweaking what I am working in the other vm, without breaking my guest os). If I head to the app store I can't seem to be able to download the app file required by vmware, and online on Apple's website I can only download a full dmg image that does not work for VMware. My older osx downloads are not present in the app store since this is a work machine and when I try to download Catalina it takes me to the update screen in the settings menu. Is there anything I can do? *Note that I am new to this. Up until this point I have been developing software exclusively on Linux, my personal Mac being my "home web&mail access" machine. Posted: 22 Oct 2020 10:39 PM PDT Hello. My client lost most (thousands) of his e-mails on his IMAP servers, but he still has most of them as local copies in his old 2012 13.3" MacBook Pro (MBP)'s mac OS Mojave v10.14.6's Mail app when I checked offline (no wifi connection for Internet). I tried to move his thousands e-mails to new local folders, but they didn't move at all. They got stuck at the first one. I am trying to save them before he uses his MBP's and to his iPhone 11 Pro Max's Mail apps online again. I am hoping I can put them back on his IMAP servers and iPhone with this method. Thank you for reading and hopefully answering soon. :) [link] [comments]
work Mac won't let wallpaper changes Posted: 22 Oct 2020 09:39 PM PDT So I'm assigned a work Mac and I can't change the wallpaper. Somehow it's preventing me from setting a desktop image, or use apps like Irvue so it changes everyday. Is there a way to Terminal code my way around here so I can enjoy beautiful wallpapers from Unsplash everyday across my multiple screen? #smalljoys Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me. failed downloads taking up space Posted: 22 Oct 2020 06:19 PM PDT When I download large files, and it fails it doesn't show up in downloads folder like when I press stop, but it still takes up my storage. How do I clear these failed downloads? [link] [comments]
Macbook Air (2017) won’t update to 10.15.7 Posted: 22 Oct 2020 05:15 PM PDT I've been trying to install 10.15.7 to my mac for some weeks now. When I press "install", it doesn't say that anything is wrong. The mac restarts, the apple logo shows up with a bar under it, the "install" is done after 10 seconds, I log in, and it says that 10.15.7 is available. This happens every time. The first time I tried, I had about 8 GB available diskspace, and I didn't get any message that it needed more diskspace. (The update-file only takes up about 2,5 GB, so I thought 8 GB should be good enough..) I deleted some files and programs, so that I got over 20 GB free diskspace. Still not working. Someone said it could be because of Avast, so I deleted it, but still not working. I also tried to download the update from support.apple.com, but it was the same problem there. Also tried "safe-mode". Didn't work.. To me it doesn't make any sense that I would need more than 20 GB free diskspace to install a 2,5 GB update.. Anyone have any idea of what could be wrong? I'm almost giving up.. [link] [comments]

Missing Storage on Mac OS Catalina Posted: 22 Oct 2020 01:49 PM PDT tl:dr My mac has a large amount of storage missing due to misc. files that I have no knowledge nor can I locate them. Even after wiping the OS it still said only 39 GB of space was free. Hey everyone! So about 6 months ago I was trying to recover some files from my iphone. The software was running for a while before I realized that all these recovered files were being store on my very small 128 Gb SSD. I instantly pulled the plug in the operation, but the damage was already done. It had downloaded 30-40+Gbs worth of files, which were all stored in the "other files" category. I think stopping it in in it's tracks left a bunch of useless files on my hard drive. A similar thing happened a few months after as well after downloading iMovie to computer. I believe I may have clicked on an option which was downloading an entire library. I had realized that this wasn't some 100-200 mb library, but rather one which took up 20 GBs of space though it wasn't even finished yet. I also stopped this process in it's track. I was able to deleted a lot of the iMovie files, but I still had a pretty large portion of my used storage categorized as "other storage". I just decided to reset my mac to factory settings by wiping the entire drive. I found that while navigating to the install option that of my 121 GB of Available storage, my computer was telling me that only 39 GB was free. This was a little concerning to me. I'm not sure if anyone can lend any advice to me about things to do. [link] [comments] |
