Does the MacBook Air 2020 really have heating issues? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 06:03 PM PDT I'm thinking of getting one (the base model) just for schoolwork, browsing the web, Spotify etc. And I've seen a lot of videos on YouTube saying that there's a problem with heating and that even regular tasks like having multiple tabs open causes it to reach 100 degrees, which is why I'm worried because it's a $1000 machine that shouldn't have these types of issues. I'm a pc guy and I'm looking at this Costco Macbook for my mom. Should I buy or get another? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 07:03 AM PDT My mom wants a macbook for her birthday so I'd like to make that happen for her. I don't know much about mac aside from that they are expensive. I went to Costco and saw this Apple MacBook Pro 13.3" with Touch Bar - 10th Gen Intel Core i5 - 16GB Memory - 512GB SSD for $1600. I expect she will use it for web browsing and MS Office. Is this a good purchase for her or is there a better option? [link] [comments] |
Cooling pad for 13" inch 2020 MacBook Pro Posted: 02 Sep 2020 07:42 PM PDT I gave up. I searched through eBay and amazon for days and couldn't find a sleek 13inch cooling pad for my MacBook. They were all either too big or too ugly. I'm trying to keep the MacBook aesthetic, my MacBook gets super hot quick, and I can hear it's a fan going at full mode. I don't want it to stop working or something. I do most of my work on my bed, and I know that can make the laptop get hot quickly. That's why I need a cooling pad. Any ideas where could I find a sleek, nice-looking cooling pad? Open to any recommendations as well. Thx! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2020 10:48 PM PDT Is it dangerous to use a mac without those black circular things on them at the bottom because in one side you can directly see the hard drive and another the battery? That's the question i have. Here's a picture: [link] [comments] |
How do I solve "service battery" problem on my Macbook Pro 2017 13-inch? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 10:38 PM PDT Just today, I suddenly found a "service battery" warning on my battery indicator bar. I searched up for solutions online and found a lot of people solved it by just resetting SMC. I tried doing it, but it didn't work. Is there any other solutions? And if there isn't is this something I should look into and good to my Apple Store to fix? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2020 09:06 PM PDT Hello there, Is there such thing as a USB type C splitter that splits one USB-C port on my MacBook into two or three more female? I'm running out of ports due to external monitors. [link] [comments] |
Battery health : Working while connected on power Posted: 02 Sep 2020 08:48 PM PDT With work from home being the new norm, I am kind of forced to run my Macbook while connected on Power all the time for 8-10 hrs a day( with a extended display, keyboard mouse etc). How this will affect the battery life? Is there any other tips on healthy maintenance of battery in such an arrangement. Its a 2020 MacBook Air. [link] [comments] |
MacBook Pro 2012 not turning on all the sudden. Can someone help? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 08:25 PM PDT So I have a MacBook Pro 2012 that I've had for a while. About a week ago I switched out my hard drive with an ssd to make my computer run faster. Everything has been working fine until today. I was on my computer and I walked away from it for a while so it automatically shut off. When I went to turn it back on nothing happened. My computer is showing no picture and no sound at all. When I plug my charger in nothing happens either. The chargers light doesn't come on when it's plugged in like it usually does. Can someone please try and help me with this problem? How do I turn on camera for MacBook Air? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 08:15 PM PDT My mac is a few years old and I never really actually used my camera. I've looked through every video I could find to enable it and I can't find an option to enable my camera. I go to photobooth and it says: "There is no connected camera." I even went through the parent controls and it doesn't even give me "Allow Use Of Camera" option. How do I fix that? I need it for my zoom classes. [link] [comments] |

2020 MacBook Pro 13 inch case (a2289) Posted: 02 Sep 2020 03:27 PM PDT I've been searching for a macbook pro 13 inch case for the new 2020 model. I want something that will really protect it in case of a drop but that doesn't look so bulky and industrial. It seems like the thin cases that snaps on would only protect scratches. I've looked all over amazon but i'm hoping maybe someone in this community would know the perfect thing im searching for 😍 so far: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Y7Y186G/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A2C3SMXXIDC93V&psc=1 this is my favorite one but it's just that the back is open so it wouldn't protect from scratches. Please educate me if I'm ignorant about those snap on cases- i just feel like theyre not protective enough (such as this: https://www.amazon.com/IBENZER-MacBook-Release-Version-MMA-T13CYCL/dp/B07KPNM6FD/ref=sr_1_4?brr=1&dchild=1&qid=1599085616&rd=1&s=pc&sr=1-4 ) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2020 06:25 PM PDT hi there was really worried about something and wanted to make sure it was somewhat normal so when I push on the MacBook on the bottom or when I pick it up it makes a pop sound and I can feel the air move a little bit. [link] [comments] |

Looking for recommendations for a monitor for my early 2015 Macbook Pro Posted: 02 Sep 2020 07:05 AM PDT I am taking masters classes this semester and have quickly found out that having a second screen might come in handy. I'd like to get something relatively inexpensive, preferably less than $150. What types of options would be compatible with my computer? TIA [link] [comments] |

Posted: 02 Sep 2020 01:30 PM PDT Hi! I started my civilengineering CS education and I'm in dire need to upgrade from my trashy old surface pro (ironically I have Linux on it and it runs better than windows). Moving to MacOS for the first time because damn they just work? Plus I'm already too deep in the apple ecosystem with an iPad pro and icloud (I use it for illustration work). So, I'm hearing a lot of mixed messages. On the one hand macbook air base model should be fine since programming is basically text editing on steroids, any summer jobs won't have me simulating physics and besides civ CS is mostly math anyway. On the other hand I should get a MacBook pro because they're future proof, simulating ios and android needs power, thermals. Here are my options 1. Base macbook air 2. Base macbook pro 13 3. Used pro 13 with 16gb ram, 512+gb ssd 4. Save money and wait til apple silicon comes out and see what happens👀 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2020 05:17 AM PDT Looking for a case for my new MacBook Pro 2019 13in w the touch bar and the fingerprint ID thing. I've heard hard cases are bad for the hinges, and I'd definitely like to make this one last. Where can I find a good soft case for my laptop (rubber/silicone/gel)? I haven't been able to find any on amazon. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 02 Sep 2020 04:21 AM PDT Hi everyone! I have a 13' MBP from 2017 I believe. There is 8GB. However, whenever I pull up activity monitor, it seems like 3-4 gigs of Ram is always in use regardless of whatever I'm doing. Then it runs extremely hot. Is this normal? Or should I reset my ram? Time Machine help for a Macbook newbie Posted: 02 Sep 2020 09:07 AM PDT My parents are always worried about loosing all the pictures of the grandchildren they have stored on their macbook and iphones and ipads. I believe they are paying a few bucks a month for additional icloud storage. They wanted something local, so i gave them a WD Mycloud Dl4100 nas box with 4-3tb WD reds in raid 5. I'm not quite sure what the macbook version is, but its probably 3-4 years old. I got the nas box all setup and created a timemachine share on it. I plugged the macbook in to the Ethernet using a dongle and set the time machine to go. Its backing up around 480gb so it takes about 12 hrs. I was hoping that it would complete its initial backup and then just update the backup whenever it needs to (either saving new media, or on a set time frame). After 12hrs it pops up with a message that says: Time Machine completed a verification of your backups on In the top right of the screen on a little notification: We have hit Backup Now a ton of times and it keeps going back to the same screen after a while. Some things i've tried: I'm going to head over to look at it in a couple days and could use some advice to get it to work. Or is there a better program to use instead of Time Machine for the backup? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 08:04 AM PDT Hi. I am taking all online classes so I will be on my MacBook most of the time and will be doing many things. So, it would be great if I could get some tips that I can do so my MacBook doesn't get hot. Edit: I know my laptop will get hot no matter what. I meant what can I do to slow down the process. Thanks.
