They're all like [aeromexico-confirmation.js] [kayak.com-flight-confirmation.skeleton.js] [ba.com-itinerary.skeleton.js] and SEVERAL other similar .js files all TRAVEL related. I have never done any searches relating to this. Please tell me where these are coming from is this a MacOS thing? They are in MacintoshHD>System>Library>AssetsV2>Assets>ReverseTemplateJS>name.js. Please helpppp!

    "Accepting apps" not working

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 09:13 PM PDT

crossposting from Apple Community Support forum

Recently I bought a 2011 iMac secondhand as mostly a second display. The highest OS it can be updated to is High Sierra. As soon as I brought it home I registered it with my Apple ID.

When I bought it, HS was installed, but the iWork apps were not–it didn't even come with the old versions of Pages/Keynote/Numbers on the HD. So I went to the App Store, signed in with my Apple ID, and saw that they needed to "be accepted". I clicked "Accept", entered my Apple ID and password again, and even entered the "new device" confirmation code. I assumed the downloads would start immediately... but they didn't. All I got was the spinning circle in the top left.

I switched to the "Updates" tab to see if they would show there... nope. I went back to "Purchased", and the Accept button is still there like nothing had happened, and the spinning circle had disappeared as well. I repeated the process, and nothing changed.

What is going on here? How do I fix this?

    Contacts won't sync to iMessage?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 06:58 PM PDT

This started happening right after the latest Catalina update, where I'd open iMessage and all my conversations only show the contact phone number and group chat names. I restarted once and it seemed to fix the issue but after it restarted itself again while I left it idle, the issue came back. Is anyone else having this problem?

    I don't know if it's relevant, but I have the MBP 2020 13".

Do I need the Update APFS Volume on My Mac? I downgraded from the Big Sur Public Beta to Catalina. I now have a drive partition called Update & I don't know if it is necessary for my machine to operate since my MAC HD Data Partition and the Update Partition have the same amount of available data.

replacement for XLD music metadata tagger?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2020 01:25 AM PDT

I've been using XLD for years as it has a feature where it can grab music metadata from various sources for music files. In the past few months, it has not been able to find any metadata for music files. Is there another free app that has this functionality? If not, is there a good paid app that has music metadata retrieval functionality? Thank you in advance.

How is Chrome able to crash MacOS Catalina?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 06:59 PM PDT

It's a Late 2013 Macbook Pro 15" and I can provide the logs, just tell me which one you need from the Console app...

Anyways, latest Chrome version + latest Catalina = random crashing of the computer, and it's not a kernel panic, just a black screen that results in a full reboot of the computer.

I have had to revise/hurry this reddit post 3 times now before the computer goes kaput...

Yes I can reinstall MacOS without a problem, but it seems rather odd as to how a long running OS + Chrome is now suddenly dying

Not sure it's a power problem as the battery + 85W power adapter are more than enough to run the most compute intensive stuff if for Photoshop and Lightroom, but apparently 200 tabs open in Chrome are just too much and are able to nuke MacOS from low earth orbit....

    Monitor resolutions - 1440p or 4K for a 32 inch monitor

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 02:51 PM PDT

I am currently using a 32-inch 1440p monitor with macOS and find it comfortable (2015 15 inch MBP Retina, will drive 4K, and upgrading when the new ARM ones come out), and have been considering buying a 32-inch 4K monitor. When I scale screenshots of the desktop and shrink them to 2/3 their size, to make them appear like what I think they will look like on a 32-inch 4K monitor, the text in some windows, such as the UI for Spark Mail, becomes very small and less comfortable. Am I correct in thinking that this is problematic and that 1440p is the right size for me? I don't think I'm interested in using non-integer scaling for the 4K or scaling it down to 1080p. Am I missing something?

Will MacOS Catalina work on MacBook Air?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 06:17 PM PDT

I have a MacBook Air 2017 (i5 + 8GB RAM) and it runs on High Sierra out of the box.

Even though Apple's website says that my laptop is completely good to run Catalina, I am skeptical that it will slow down my laptop or cause other problems. Can anyone share their experiences/thoughts?

    Thanks in advance!

Flashes when closing Safari tabs with dark mode on.

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 05:55 PM PDT

When I close Safari tabs with the dark mode on, there is a flash. I turned of the dark mode a while ago using Mojave because of this. Now I'm in Catalina and I'm surprised that this flashing thing is still happening... Here's 6 seconds youtube video of the flash I'm talking about: https://youtu.be/f6j_Ku-HS94. Why is this bug not corrected yet? A smooth transition between two white pages shouldn't be so complicated...

Why do my windows reopen on one virtual desktop?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 11:27 AM PDT

MacOS Catalina 10.15.6: I installed this update from 10.15.1 a week ago and am having trouble understanding why when my windows reopen upon startup they only appear in the first virtual desktop while in 10.15.1 they'd open in the virtual desktop I had them in prior to shutdown.

Am I missing something? I opened each window in the Desktop 1 and then dragged them to a different virtual desktop. Do I need to open the pages I want in the new virtual desktop I make to get it to work right? IE Make new virtual desktop. Open file from that desktop.

Which MacOS version should I use? (Read Description)

I'm a PC user planning to make a switch in 2022 and I really like the designs of both MacOS 10 and MacOS 11, but I don't know which ones to switch to. They both have strengths and weaknesses. Which one do you recommend more?

Last MacBook Destroyed Due to Water Damage. Help me not lose files again.

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 01:23 PM PDT

The unthinkable happened with my 2015 MacBook Air and I just replaced it with with a refurb one. I didn't lose exactly all my data, but did a little bit. Can someone help me create a backup strategy please. I sort of dodged the bullet, but not fully. I've done some reading about 3–2-1 backups. I'm also paying for way to many back-up/file syncing services. Here's the layout:

    1. I have 200 gb of iCloud storage. About 90% full, mostly photos, probably mostly duplicates at that. Jumping up to the 1 TB would be $10 a month instead of a few dollars.
    2. Crash plan subscription, really expensive at $30 a month
    3. Trying out Dropbox for one month at $11 for the month.
    4. Office 365, where I get 1 TB for $10 a month.
    5. A 1 TB external hard drive.

OneDrive has been painfully buggy for me in the past, compared to Dropbox, but it feels silly to pay another $10. I was thinking of doing the following (i.e. sort of following the 3-2-1 method).

    • One Back-up on my local drive
    • One back-up on Backblaze - Way cheaper than Crash plan
    • Periodic back-ups on my external hard drive, via time machine.
    • One Drive if something needs to sync, but it really is buggy.

All in all, I probably have about half TB of data's, which is the capacity of my current MacBook. Where I'm struggling with is how it all breaks out. "

How should I divvy out the data, since my MacBook isn't really big enough to hold everything? Should I keep the iCloud, even if I require a TB? In short, if my local hard drive isn't big enough to store everything, what is the methodology for where it is all kept?

I should probably factor in my wife's PC, which I'll need to pay for another Backblaze subscription at a minimum, but she doesn't keep near the data I do and I will update to a MacBook when that system croaks.
