Anyone who use LiquidText and/or Marginnote for research papers, textbooks, etc., do you use both (which of the two) for the two? How's your workflow?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 11:13 AM PDT

So far, been testing out both on Desktop and iPad. I have the pro versions of LiquidText and Marginnote on the iPad, and so far the pro version of Marginnote on Mac. Am considering getting LiquidText on Mac as well

Thing is, I bought LiquidText first, and since I was studying textbooks then, when I tried out Marginnote it seemed to be better of being read in Marginnote especially due to space considerations, review mode, and for building linear concepts.

But then I read research papers on Marginnote, but things just seem so weird or harder to understand when things get either grouped automatically or in mindmap form in Marginnote somehow.

So I tried LiquidText for this, and things just made more sense. I suppose I was still looking for that "linear" notebook style.

However, I'm also thinking if maybe this linear notebook style thing can be done in Marginnote as well by simply just not making things into mindmaps, but arranging loose "excerpts" that are not grouped, and not as mindmaps.

So far, my workflow is putting things in Mendeley, then use the same Menedeley pdf folder as Marginnote does. I planned to do iCloud sync on the iPad, but users say its buggy. And then with LiquidText, well just open file with LiquidText.

A little more frustration on this and I'll switch back to using Adobe Reader and a notes app, e.g. Notion side by side since I'm usually on my Mac these days anyway :))) Although I still would like the convenience of having the iPad. I already spent the entire day working out this conundrum haha.

Actually I thought that it seems like making a lot of notes on such is faster on either Marginnote or LiquidText since excerpting is where they're both good at. And I do tend to excerpt and highlight a lot when reading. Then just revise at the end.

Any thoughts on this would be great thanks!

Record Notability Notes with Headphones to Mac?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 01:00 PM PDT

I live in a studio apartment with my boyfriend who often works really late. He gets home at 3am and needs to get quality rest. The problem is I need to attend all of my online classes in-person at 8 am in the morning. I really want to be able to record the lectures on Notability (so that I can play them back later) while using my Mac connected to an external monitor for the PowerPoint presentations.

Is there any solution you guys can think of. I don't want to attend the class from my iPad because then the screens for notability and the video lecture would be so small.

Guitar Recording Questions iPad Air 3

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 07:24 AM PDT

I just picked up a 3rd gen Air and I really like it. I know the "proper" way to hook up a guitar to the iPad is something like the iRip hd 2 which would be ideal, but I have a older Lexicon Alpha that I really like using. Could I use a dongle setup and plug it in this way via usb A on the dongle? Any suggestions? This is my first iPad. Thanks.

    P.S.: I got around 150$ CAD budget

Edit: I do not own anything apple except the iPad the school gave me.

Search engine keywords in IpadOS Safari?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 03:57 AM PDT

On my computers, I use a browser feature to directly search a specific website by starting with a keyword.

For example to search Youtube I type "y whatever", to search WolframAlpha I type "w 6ft4in in cm", etc.

Is there a way to configure something similar on IpadOS Safari? Or be able to select which website I want to search every time? The closest I found is to use DuckDuckGo as default search engine and use bangs.

Has anyone ever found a over the ear mono bluetooth headset?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 06:38 AM PDT

basically a headset that can connect to an Ipad via bluetooth, is over the ear on oneside with a mic, and the other side is open so I can hear other noises in the room. I can't find one anywhere that isn't crazy expensive

Any way to transfer files between iPad and desktop using rsync?

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 05:40 PM PDT

I transfer files between my MacBook Pro and Linux Workstation using rsync. Rsync server is running on my workstation and I use the rsync command line client on my MacBook to transfer files bidirectionally.

Is there any way to transfer them between my iPad and workstation using rsync too? I searched the app store for rsync, but there's nothing obvious.

iPad Pro 2018/2020 Glass Protector that covers FaceID part

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 10:32 PM PDT

Have you guys used any glass protector that covers the faceID part of these iPad pros? I'm worried that the exposed part will get dust and scratches. For my iPhone 11 i use glass that covers faceID and i have no issues. Not sure why I cannot find similar for pro models

Any way to make iPad user agent report as an iMac?

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 04:52 PM PDT

Hi all, So here's my situation. I'm in a university chemistry class, and because of Covid, everything is being done remotely and online (except the lab). Everybody has to install RPNow on their devices to take the quizzes and tests. Problem is, several of the classmates only have iPhone or iPad. And RPNow will refuse to install on a mobile device. Does anybody know of a way, sort of like changing the user agent of a browser, to get the system to report itself as iMac or something, so they can download and install RPNow? Thanks in advance from a bunch of stressed college students.

11” 2018 iPad Pro showing yellowing a spots on all edges.

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 03:24 PM PDT

    Video: https://i.imgur.com/9mDQS6I.mp4

Anyone have this happen? I've had it since launch and haven't dropped it hard or gotten it wet that I recall.

Can I expect this to worsen until the screen goes out completely?

Any ideas of the cost to repair out of warranty?

This iPad is like the one thing I have that is mine, and thanks to COVID replacing it is very unlikely. So any help would be appreciated.

Can I change Pencil sensitivity ?

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 02:33 PM PDT

I just got my first iPad with pen support (iPad air 3), was wondering if I can adjust settings to it and if possible how would I do that? My hand writing on the iPad looks sloppy compared to my writing on the Surface Pro, I tried using both One note and Goodnotes. Any way I can get a "pencil brush" on the iPad? I mainly got the iPad for studying since my Surface Pro doesn't have as good of a battery life and it's much heavier.

    temporary matte screen protector?

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 06:49 PM PDT

I've had my 2019 ipad mini for a year now and i really like taking notes and drawing on it, but i hate drawing on the glass surface. it's so much harder to draw smooth lines and things just look worse than they would on paper. i wanted to try some type of matte screen protector or tip on my apple pencil to help with this, but i don't want to have it on all the time since i also use the ipad for watching videos and other things. has anyone figured out any temporary fixes for this where i can have a "matte" feel to the pencil or screen then take it off when i'm not drawing?
